Three United States senators have confirmed they have tested positive for Covid-19. Senator Angus King, an Independent from Maine, tested positive for the virus in his home state, his office announced. The news came hours after Senator Roger Wicker, a Republican from Mississippi, also announced he had tested positive. And the third to make public their positive test was John Hickenlooper, a Democrat from Colorado. Senator King’s office said that he had taken a Covid test after he started to feel unwell on Wednesday and the politician added that despite taking precautions and being vaccinated it had come back positive. “Despite all my efforts, when I began feeling

The rapid collapse of Afghanistan's armed forces may have surprised President Biden but dozens of reports from a federal watchdog revealed how the U.S. bungled efforts to shore up the country. From millions spent on military planes left rotting at Kabul's international airport to the billions of dollars wasted trying and failing to eradicate the country's opium crops, the dispatches from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction Illustrated the fraud and abuse that derailed a $145 billion effort. 'If the goal was to rebuild and leave behind a country that could sustain itself and pose little threat to U.S. national security interests, the overall picture in Afghanistan is bleak,'

China’s military stepped up flights of H-6 bombers near the southeastern tip of Taiwan, triggering air defense forces of the island state, the Taiwan defense ministry said Thursday. The H-6 bomber incursion is the latest military demonstration by the People’s Liberation Army that also conducted large-scale war games near Taiwan this week and stepped-up propaganda criticizing both Taipei and Washington. Two days ago, the PLA flew two H-6K bombers—those equipped for conducting long-range missile strikes—into the Taiwan air defense zone, along with several other warplanes and reconnaissance aircraft, including six J-16 jet fighters.

The US Capitol was put in lockdown while police negotiated with a man in a pick-up truck demanding airstrikes in Afghanistan to 'kick the Taliban's a**' and asking to speak to Joe Biden on Thursday before surrendering to police after a five hour standoff. The man in the truck is believed to be 49-year-old Ray Roseberry from North Carolina. At 9.15am this morning, he drove his black pick-up truck onto the sidewalk outside the Library of Congress, opposite the Capitol building. Congress is in recess so no elected officials are there but there are staffers who are still working in the Capitol buildings.

President Biden said Wednesday he is requiring nursing homes to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for their workers as a condition of federal funding and scolded GOP governors who’ve overruled schools that want to impose mask mandates. Speaking from the White House, Mr. Biden said he instructed the Department of Health and Human Services to write regulations that tether reimbursement under the Medicaid and Medicare programs to required vaccinations for workers. He also told the Education Department to examine whether legal remedies are needed to let schools impose the COVID-19 rules they want to in states that have intervened. The nursing home policy will affect about 1.3 million people

A Brazilian Bishop has resigned days after a video of him allegedly masturbating on a video call went viral. The Vatican announced that Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Tomé Ferreira da Silva, 60, of Sao Jose de Rio Preto, who confirmed to a local newspaper Diario da Regiao that it was, in fact, him in the video, but provided no additional comment.
The bishop has been subject to other Vatican investigations—including covering up reports of sexual abuse—and many in his diocese have petitioned for his removal since 2014. In 2015, the Vatican launched an investigation into alleged embezzlement and having a romantic relationship with his driver.

A federal religious liberty panel said Wednesday that North Korea‘s government “poses an acute challenge” to religious practice in the country, with an organized and intensifying campaign of harassment against an expanding array of faiths. “Violations of this right in North Korea are ongoing, egregious, and systematic, and they are perpetrated and overseen by the active mobilization of organs” of that government, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in the new report, which noted that pandemic-related border shutdowns have only increased the isolation of North Korea‘s still-surviving religious communities. While Christianity has long been the target of North Korean repression over the past 70 years,

China today threatened to 'crush' any US troops stationed on Taiwan as it conducts live fire drills in the South China Sea after Joe Biden abandoned Afghanistan. An editorial in the regime-backed Global Times lashed out at a since-deleted tweet by Senator John Cornyn which erroneously stated there were 30,000 American soldiers stationed in Taiwan. The bombastic propaganda article said that if Sen. Cornyn's claim was true this 'is equivalent to a military invasion and occupation of the Taiwan Province of China. It is an act of declaring war on the People's Republic of China.'(Snip)Backing up this fiery rhetoric, Beijing dispatched warships and fighter jets

Evacuation flights out of Kabul are taking off almost empty despite tens of thousands of Afghans trying to flee the country after the Taliban formed a ring of steel around the airport and barred most people from reaching it.
One Australian Hercules C-130 aircraft with room for 120 people took off with just 26 on board today, the government has confirmed, while a German Airbus A-400M with room for 150 was carrying just seven people when it departed yesterday. That is despite there being around 50,000 Afghans gathered at the airport who have been promised sanctuary by western nations. One particularly harrowing piece of footage showed women pleading

The Taliban, who are desperately trying to present a moderate face after sweeping into power in Afghanistan, have blown up the statue of a Shiite militia leader who had fought against them during the civil war in the 1990s. When the Islamic militants seized power from rival warlords in 1996, they killed the militia leader, Abdul Ali Mazari—a champion of the country’s ethnic Hazara minority, Shiites who were persecuted under the Sunni Taliban’s earlier rule. The statue stood in the central Bamyan province, where the Taliban infamously blew up two huge 1,500-year-old statues of Buddha carved into a mountain in 2001, claiming they violated Islam’s prohibition on idolatry.
Comments:
In other words, they're just like us. Tear down that statue. Hang banners hailing the Taliban, or BLM or Transgender Pride. Wear a burka, or be forced to take a so-called vaccine.
