Grammy-winning folk singer Nanci Griffith has died at the age of 68. The Texas-born crooner’s management team confirmed her death on Friday but gave no cause. “It was Nanci’s wish that no further formal statement or press release happen for a week following her passing,” Gold Mountain Entertainment said in a statement.

Comments:

For years, she was my favorite singer. I got to see her several times live here in Austin, TX. Sadly, the last few years, she became a huge abortion supporter/activist, so I lost interest in her. But I will always remember how wonderful she was in those good old days (before lie-beralism destroyed something else I loved).

#1, she came from that time in Austin, so of course she was a lie-beral. But I went to several of her shows back in the late 80's and early 90's, where she never talked about politics or lie-beral BS on other stuff. She just told cute and funny stories about life, and sang really good songs. I still have all of her albums and CD's from those days, and they are all good. That is how I really want to remember her!!! It was only after her career and personal life really started tanking in the early 2000's that she went full lib-tard -- and couldn't keep her mouth shut. I think she became too lie-beral to even play Austin any more. I truly hope she found some peace in her life before she died, since people who go full blown lie-beral are usually so full of hate and anger and rage that peace is not something they can know.

Just Once in a Very Blue Moon. It was on a Ryko variety CD when they first came out. Don't know her politics, don't care. RIP

Loved her voice! All folk singers are leftist…but it doesn’t diminish her greatness as a singer/songwriter/poet!

Nanci's unique voice was just enhanced in duets with the likes ofJohn Prine (thanks for the link, Poster #6). And she even got Guy Clark on late night tv with Letterman. Here they are, together with other greats -Jiimmy Dale Gilmore, Rodney Crowell, Eric Taylor, Jerry Jeff Walker and Steve Earle. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQW9Y9frows) The New York audience had no idea who they were listening to; they didn't understand the music or the lyrics or the talent. Some voices take a little time to appreciate (I put Iris Dement in this category, too). And here's Nanci in a bittersweet duet with her muse, Townes Van Zandt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kc6AsDmuD2U Someone smarter than me might explain why so much of the folk music we love come from the left. After its fourth weekend, “Avengers: Endgame” is the biggest grossing domestic hit in more than three years with $771 million in North America. Its final achievement will be profound — but it also comes awfully early, as “John Wick 3” now holds the number-one spot. The Marvel movie’s April 25 release is not quite a month old, but unlike prior all-time hits, it’s no longer driving the most business.

The adult LGBTQ population in the United States reported living in households facing much higher levels of food insecurity when compared to non-LGBTQ adults, according to data recently released by the Census Bureau. Of the more than 64,000 people who responded to a recent survey by the bureau, 13.1% of LGBTQ adults reported living in a household “where there was sometimes or often not enough to eat in the past seven days,” compared to 7.2% non-LGBTQ adults. The latest version of the Household Pulse Survey, which measures household experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, also included questions about respondents’ sexual orientation and gender identity.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Friday signed into a law a bill that bars hair discrimination in schools, saying it will help ensure that students statewide feel “comfortable and confident in their own skin.”But the mother whose son was an inspiration for the law — a 4-year-old Black child who was told his braids were a violation of school dress codes — said the moment “is bigger than just hair.”“Our hair is an extension of who we are as a race and is deeply connected with our cultural identity,” said Ida Nelson, who had a front row seat at the bill signing, holding son Gus “Jett” Hawkins in her lap.
Afghanistan will be seen as Joe Biden’s

What will it take for Joe Biden to admit he is disastrously wrong about Afghanistan? The US leader struck a defiant pose last week. Sounding like a slightly desperate Olympics coach, he told Afghans it was their country. If they want it, they have to fight for it. In American politics-speak, this is called tough love. Without the love. Biden has more hands-on foreign policy experience than any president since George HW Bush. That doesn’t mean he knows what he’s doing. Opinion polls suggest his abrupt Afghan withdrawal has majority public support. That doesn’t mean Americans will remain indifferent as the carnage and misery mount.

GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell called on President Biden to launch 11th hour airstrikes against the Taliban in Afghanistan, as the group comes perilously close to seizing the nation’s capital of Kabul. “It is not too late to prevent the Taliban from overrunning Kabul,” The Kentucky senator said in a statement Friday, Fox News reported. “The Administration should move quickly to hammer Taliban advances with airstrikes, provide critical support to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) defending the capital, and prevent the seemingly imminent fall of the city.” The message came after McConnell had what he described as an “urgent conversation” with Adela Raz,

Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security just issued a terror threat advisory which is raising some eyebrows. Listen, as Lester Holt and Pete Williams describe how the “terror threat advisory” isn’t based on any actual threats or plots, but just a lot of “anti-government rhetoric” that includes things like “opposition to COVID measures” like masks and vaccine measures. From Yahoo News: “Extremists may seek to exploit the emergence of Covid-19 variants by viewing the potential re-establishment of public health restrictions across the United States as a rationale to conduct attacks,” the DHS advisory said, adding that “pandemic-related stressors… may contribute to more violence this year.” So, if there aren’t any actual plots

He sure is. One can give him a partial pass on COVID’s resurgence since the rise of the Delta variant was out of his hands. But the other three here are squarely on him. Even COVID is only a partial pass. Many millions of senior citizens are sitting around waiting to be infected as the immunity from shots they received six or seven months ago ebbs. What are Biden’s CDC and FDA doing about it? Jack at the moment, to all appearances. I have no sense of how the catastrophic lightning fall of Afghanistan’s government will play with voters.

Rep. Liz Cheney said Sunday President Bidens and Trump shoulder the blame for the unfolding “catastrophe” in Afghanistan. The Wyoming Republican and member of the House Armed Services Committee said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” the situation in Afghanistan was avoidable, and the fallout will tarnish the nation’s image on the world stage for years to come. “I think that, absolutely, President Biden bears responsibility for making this decision, but there is no question that President Trump, his administration, [former Secretary Mike] Pompeo, they also bear very significant responsibility for this,” Ms. Cheney said. “They walked down this path of legitimizing the Taliban, of perpetuating this fantasy,

As the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack looms, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum is crying poverty for the second year in a row. This time, it says it can’t afford to mount special exhibitions planned to mark the two-decade milestone. In 2020, the twin-beam “Tribute in Light” was canceled only to win a last-minute reprieve after soon-to-be-ex Gov. Cuomo pitched in state resources. But no such bailout appears in the offing this time. In fact, this year, the museum is shamefully restricting the reading-of-the-names ceremony exclusively to the families of 9/11 victims. No hero firefighters, cops, first responders or emergency workers,

Marine Corps General David H. Berger’s office who overheard a heated conversation between them. Gen. Berger telephoned the defense secretary minutes after he said in a press conference that the Covid-19 vaccination is needed to maintain military readiness and that he would enforce the mandatory vaccination policy regardless of FDA approval status. “There will be no mandatory vaccinations for my Marines,” Gen. Berger said.
