Elderly people will likely need booster shots for COVID vaccines, the nation’s top infectious disease expert said Sunday. The level of protection vaccines provide against the virus goes down over time, Dr. Anthony Fauci explained, citing the Pfizer drug as an example. The Pfizer vaccine starts out about 90% effective against COVID, he said, going down to about 84% several months afterwards. Effectiveness of the Moderna vaccine has not yet been shown to decrease, he added, but Fauci expects that to happen eventually. “Sooner or later, you’re going to see an attenuation to the point where we’re going to have to give an additional boost to people,

Miami Dolphins tight end Adam Shaheen insisted he will not let the NFL 'strong-arm' him into getting a COVID-19 vaccine and accused the league of 'taking away freedoms' by making unvaccinated players take extra precautions. 'For me, it's a personal choice, and it's bigger than just COVID,' Shaheen told reporters after practice on Saturday.(Snip)Shaheen, 26, came off the COVID-19 list Thursday after being placed on it due to being in close contact with tight ends coach George Godsey, who tested positive last weekend despite being vaccinated. Barack Obama's birthday celebrations continued for a third day on Sunday, with the former president enjoying brunch at a seafront restaurant in Martha's Vineyard. In a sky blue linen shirt and sunglasses, the birthday boy capped off a weekend packed with parties. He and his guests dined beneath a specially-erected marquee, set beside the water.(Snip)Earlier in the week it was reported how guests would be able to dine on a fully meatless menu, featuring popular vegan brands like Impossible Foods and Eat Just. From images posted on Saturday evening, it is likely that the 'meatless menu' was one of a number of options.

An accused bank robber is charged with knocking over two more Big Apple banks—just one day after being released without bail on attempted robbery charges, records show. Jonathan Desir, 26, was initially nabbed Tuesday after cops said he walked into a Midtown TD Bank on Ninth Avenue and handed the teller a note demanding money. “Give me $50,000,” the note read, according to prosecutors. “Hurry up.” But police arrested Desir before he made off with any cash and he was charged with third-degree attempted robbery. However, the charge was not eligible for bail under the state’s new justice reform measures—so Desir was cut loose

An unhinged dirt-bike rider doused a city traffic enforcement agent with water, then punched the civil servant in the face during a bizarre unprovoked attack in Chinatown, officials said Saturday. The 40-year-old agent was directing traffic at the corner of Canal and Lafayette Sts. about 7 p.m. Friday when the illegal dirt-bike rider, a red ski mask pulled over his face, rolled up and began yelling at him, officials said. As the two argued, the dirt-bike rider tossed water at the agent’s face. When the agent began recording the man on his phone, the suspect socked him in the face and sped off.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s top medical adviser, predicted Americans will increasingly be subjected to vaccine mandates as soon as any COVID-19 shot receives full approval from federal regulators.(Snip) Appearing on MSNBC, Dr. Fauci said he suspects organizations “will feel empowered to locally mandate that people get vaccinated” against COVID-19 once the FDA grants its full approval to any of the shots.“If you want to go to this college or this university in person, you got to be vaccinated. If you want to work in this enterprise, in this organization, you got to get vaccinated,” Dr. Fauci explained.

Embarrassed Education Department officials want to give a destroyed Brooklyn elementary school mural on diversity a second life. The colorful cafeteria artwork, which school administrators had removed from the cafeteria wall of P.S. 295 in Park Slope in July after objecting to messages like “Black Trans Lives Matter” and a quote from feminist author Audre Lorde, will be recreated in full, District 15 superintendent Anita Skop told parents Friday. News of the mural’s destruction—exclusively reported by The Daily News Thursday—sparked outrage in the school and beyond. Prior to the mural’s removal in July, P.S. 295 principal Lisa Pagano asked to change a “Black Trans Lives Matter” message

NYPD arrests for forged instruments, which typically involve phony license plates, have surged sharply in the last first six months, according to a watchdog group concerned the crackdown might be a pretext to stop minority drivers. Of that total, Hispanics were arrested 541 times, comprising 33% of the total, according to the Police Reform Organizing Project. Whites were charged in only 73 cases, a mere 5% of the total. Those identified as Asian/Indian, are 4%,

Snickers in Spain has pulled a controversial advertisement and apologised for any “misunderstanding that may have been caused” after the 20-second film was widely condemned for being homophobic. The advert shows the Spanish influencer Aless Gibaja ordering a “sexy orange juice” while a friend trades puzzled looks with the waiter. The waiter responds by handing Gibaja a Snickers ice-cream bar, and after a bite, Gibaja appears to transform into a bearded man with a deep voice. “Better?” the friend asks. “Better,” replies the man as the tagline reads: “You’re not yourself when you’re hungry.” The advert was heavily criticised after it began circulating online this week,

The mural will be replaced, but the commissars promise to deal with the wrong-thinking administrators who had it removed.
