Dozens of FBI employees contacted journalists who reported on classified information before the 2016 presidential election, according to a new report by the Justice Department’s inspector general, but the investigative office doesn’t know if the FBI agents leaked the information to them. In a report released Thursday, Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz said the employees “had contact with certain members of the media who reported on non-public information about ongoing criminal investigations during the periods of the OIG’s investigation—April, May and October 2016.” He also found that the FBI was “far too permissive of unauthorized media contacts.”(Snip)A large number of employees who had no official reason

The Yankees aren’t out of the clear on another COVID-19 outbreak just yet.
Gary Sanchez became the third Yankee to test positive for the virus this week, joining Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery, manager Aaron Boone announced Thursday. The 28-year-old Sanchez didn’t feel great leaving the stadium Wednesday night, according to Boone, and a rapid test Thursday came back positive. The Yankees were awaiting the confirmation from a PCR test, but had Rob Brantly up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in time to begin a series against the Mariners.

A mayor on the Texas-Mexico border is slamming Joe Biden and his state's federal lawmakers after he was forced to declare a disaster over the surging number of migrants infected with COVID being released into his city.
In a video posted to Facebook Wednesday, McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos fumed at the White House after 1,500 migrants tested positive for COVID out of 7,000 left in his city by Border Patrol last week. The city commission voted on Tuesday to set up emergency tents to house the overflow of migrants, but moved it to a county-owned facility further away from residents angry over its location.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, one of the country's most powerful labor leaders, died on Thursday at the age of 72. He had headed the 12.5 million-member labor federation, representing more than 50 unions, since 2009, making him a leading voice in Washington policy debates, and was a close ally of the Biden White House.(Snip)His death comes at a critical point for millions of workers and a White House plotting a course out of the economic wreckage of the coronavirus pandemic. Trumka had proved himself an important ally as the Biden administration battled Republican governors, supporting vaccine mandates for workers, for example.

Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine booster appears to produce a “robust” antibody response against the fast-spreading delta variant, the company said Thursday as it warned that the third shot would “likely” be needed this fall.
The Massachusetts-based drugmaker revealed in a quarterly-earnings report that its original two-dose vaccine regimen remains highly effective through six months after the second shot, but the company believes that the “increased force of infection resulting from Delta” will lead to a surge of breakthrough infections in vaccinated people over the next few months.
The delta variant is said to be as contagious as chickenpox and has already become the dominant strain

With health and safety provisions like alcohol monitors and technology to curb hot car child deaths, the Senate's 2,700-page infrastructure bill details extensive reforms beyond repairs to the country's roads and bridges.
The $1.2 trillion piece of legislation states that 'advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology must be standard equipment in all new passenger motor vehicles,' and that vehicles should be able to 'prevent or limit' operation if a driver is impaired.(Snip) Another section in the $1.2 trillion bill notes that women make up 47 per cent of the workforce, but just 6.6 per cent of truckers.

Billionaire Google co-founder Larry Page was allowed to enter New Zealand earlier this year despite COVID-19 restrictions that barred non-residents from coming, sparking fierce backlash against Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Page, who is the sixth-richest person in the world with a net worth of about $121 billion, was allowed to enter the country after his son fell ill in Fiji and Page requested hospital treatment in New Zealand, reports said.
Page and his family have been riding out much of the COVID-19 pandemic in Fiji. The revelation of Page’s visit has spurred political attacks against Ardern, who claims she didn’t know about his visit.

President Biden will unveil sweeping new regulations on cars and trucks on Thursday, returning America over the next five years to the strict standards that the Obama administration had imposed but former President Trump walked back. The proposed rules drafted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation would tighten emissions standards to be more in line with aggressive measures established by California in 2019, but which Mr. Trump had blocked. On mileage rules, automakers also will be required to raise their average miles-per-gallon score of their fleets by 3.7% starting with the model year 2023, which would include cars sold next year.

Ken Burns blasted Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg as ‘an enemy of the state’ who ‘doesn’t give a [expletive]’ about the United States and thinks he and his No. 2, Sheryl Sandberg, should be tried for crimes against humanity and put in prison. ‘He knows he can transcend it. He can get away to any place,’ Burns, the award-winning film documentarian and historian, told The New York Times. ‘And so it’s just about filthy lucre, that’s it.’ Burns, the 68-year-old two-time Oscar winner, made the remarks during an interview with Times podcaster Kara Swisher, who invited the filmmaker to talk

"They're so poor, and so black." —Wolf Blitzer. Why do we need a Southeast Crescent Regional Commission with a budget of $1.25 million when the nation's cripplingly expensive array welfare benefits are so lavish? Just get in the hammock and relax.
