Friedrich Hayek took one of the two epigraphs for The Road to Serfdom from David Hume (the other, like Hayek’s title, came from Tocqueville). “It is seldom,” Hume wrote, “that liberty of any kind is lost all at once.”
(Snip) Sometimes, I would argue, liberty is erased almost instantaneously.
I’d be willing to wager that Joseph Hackett,(Snip), would express similar doubts.
I would be happy to ask Hackett myself, but he is inaccessible. If the ironically titled “Department of Justice” has its way, he will be inaccessible for a long, long time. Perhaps as long as 20 years.
Joseph Hackett, you see, is a 51-year-old Trump supporter

How can I (we) convince the indifferent, the ignorant, and the forced vaccinators what is happening? The people who say they're not interested in politics, or the ones who would walk off a cliff if an authority commanded them to.

Try to explain freedom and the concept of it being important and worth fighting for to a typical 18 year old today, and you are likely to get "Yeah, have you seen this cool new video on Instagram?"
Reagan said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from being extinguished."
Yep, and most American adults did NOT worry about teaching their children to value their freedoms and distrust the government. And it is slipping away.

People aren't pushed to surrender liberty. They do it voluntarily. What were your thoughts post-9/11 when security was the driving force for such as secret FISA courts, expanded/reformed intel agencies and capabilities, and the establishment of a Department of Homeland Security? Many around here were enthusiastic supporters. There would be all these controls, you see...and these would only be temporary. Those who voiced any objection were said not being patriotic.
And now we see the results...and how temporary these measure were.

The country is now what was formerly the Soviet Union. The media loves it. The Rino's support it. There will be pushback. It is always harrowingly slow from democracies. It took 4 years to get to June 6, 1944, but we got there, and when we did, it didn't take long to finish the argument. A response is building. Some are waiting for the next election. We know those elections are crooked, and the rules have to change for them to be honest. A lot of people are working to make that happen, largely hampered by people elected as Republicans. The voters have already made up their minds for 2022 and 2024. Resistance is growing. People are ignoring the edicts. People have been pushed too far, and the resistance is hardening. Force against the few will not frighten the remaining into subservience. The resistance will only grow and elevate.

We've been loosing our freedoms little by little for years. One lawsuit, Bill, ordinance etc at a time. All for the sake of gender or racial discrimination, real or imagined.. What is happening is that critical mass is being approached, where its getting easier and easier to curtail freedoms. All with the willing participation of corporate America and the media.. Last year it was systemic racism. This year its white supremacy, threats to democracy and transgender rights.
To be labeled an enemy of the state, one only needs to believe or be one of the following.
Republican
Trump supporter
Constutionalist
Christian
White
Male
Veteran
Believe in two genders
Question global warming
Gun owner
Believe in free speech

Re #5 - Not to disagree with your point regarding a slow build up among Americans that will one day result in a new D-Day and your analogy isn't lost on me; however, it must be noted that neither the American public, nor the American military were sitting idly by waiting for the big push to liberate Europe. Millions of young Americans, in the weeks and months following Pearl Harbor, marched into their local recruiting offices and were inducted into the military with tens of thousands fed into the fight against the Japanese. Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and many bloody battles on the beaches on ships in the Pacific had already occurred with many thousands of US casualties prior to 1944. On the other side of the world, battles in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy were begun several years before D-Day. Thousands of American airmen, flying from bases in England had perished over Nazi-occupied Europe, years before the big push through Normandy. By June 1944, over 10 million Americans were actively serving in the US military in the fight against the Axis powers.
There is no analogous sacrifice being made today that would presage any future D-Day type of major pushback, as much as I like to believe you are very prescient in your view of what's coming. Nothing happening among the normal American majority in 2021 belies the author's point in the article that we could lose our liberty all at once. In fact, the stubborn dependence on a few bright light political characters, including our wrongfully deposed former president, makes a rapid loss of liberty all the more likely, as it blunts the obvious need for the masses to insist on the representative form of government promised by and specified in our Constitution. Instead, normal Americans seem focused on the sideshows brought on by our media than on holding the country, which we inherited from those who risked all, especially those making the supreme sacrifice in order that we may retain the liberties than were once the birthright of all American citizens and only American citizens.
