A Vatican judge indicted a cardinal and 9 other suspects on charges of money laundering, fraud, and abuse of office Saturday, according to the Independent. The suspects are accused of withholding millions of euros from the Holy See and investing money that was donated to the pope for charity work, the Independent reported. Italian broker Gianluigi Torzi is accused of using 15 million euros that he withheld from the Vatican to invest in a London building in 2018. Former Holy See official Cardinal Angelo Becciu was indicted for helping organize the investment when he was the Secretariat of State’s chief of staff, according to Independent.

I’m curious about the accused’s standing with the pope. This may be on the up and up, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the accused is not in sync with the Pope on other issues and this is a convenient way of neutralizing him.

Well apparently the church is right on the case when THEY are being robbed. Heard anything about the Canadian Catholic churches with dead children..or how long it took any of the Vatican to note the damage to children and pedophilia? Or is that a continuing concern?

I would rather they put all that effort into indicting the molesters in their midst.
Apparently their cash is far more important to them.

#9, I'm catholic and I'm ashamed of our Pope. If you want to find corruption, check the Pope's off shore accounts for Soros money.

Nothing illuminates the sin of man more today than the complete corruption of our institutions. When men believe they are gods and have the authority to do whatever is right in their minds, nothing good comes from it. Don’t take it from me, Jesus ran the money changers out of the temple because they were corrupt. Do you think he has reconsidered His thoughts on those who commit this kind of sin? It appears those in power believe they can do whatever they want. Integrity is sorely lacking today and even more so is a personal conscience. Although this happens in every aspect of our lives today, it is particularly disappointing when it is done by the clergy.

#12, thank you for your comments. It seems as if government, churches, businesses have become too big for their britches and your comment about, "When men believe they are gods and have the authority to do whatever is right in their minds, nothing good comes from it," ties it all together. They have forgotten all about God, do not read their Bible, prayer is the last thing on their list, and become self-serving individuals. Truly sad.

Malachi Martin wrote in his books (which he called "faction") about the rot in the hierarchy and in the Vatican. From what I read, the Third Secret of Fatima is about apostasy in our Church. Messages of Our Lady and Christ call for repentance, the rosary, reparation and consecration. Everything falls apart without God and HIs Order and that's what we watching now.

The pope is a Marxist and the de facto head of The Lavender Mafia.
I think the Catholic faith represents truth, but these men obviously do not. It's outrageous that a cardinal can be stealing from the church, but this thievery and scandalous sexual behavior has been happening at every level of the church for decades. Many bishops have been caught up in their own scandals, not to mention local pastors. They're all part of the same wretched cabal (TLM) and are rarely held accountable.

The punishments of man will never compare to the judgements of God - especially for much more heinous offenses. These financial crimes are trivial in comparison to the immorality of many of our clergy.

Agree with #12, but also remember, Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus's twelve. He was in charge of the money for the group and he also was a thief. And we know what happened to him.
God is in control and He knows what our thoughts and actions are , there will be consequences.

Every time you make free money available to others that is not subject to strict accounting practices, especially in cash, they are going to abuse the privilege and treat it like it was their own. I don't care who it is, churches, governments at all levels, schools, the IRS, The United Way, SPCA, scout troops, Cancer Society, Red Cross, political campaigns, Clinton Foundation, Black Lies Matter, World Hunger, Doctors without Borders, ALL of them. The Strike3 solution, don't give anything to anybody.

The Vatican has been used as a money laundering front for decades, they are a separate country, with its own courts and laws that has been largely protected, they have absolute power within its borders and due to political influence and power and good old public relations far beyond its borders. They are one of the most powerful nations on earth, really who wants the bad pr of exposing or fighting with the vatican? Its not worth the bother so they do whatever they want from laundering money to selling worthless stock,to murder and rape and child molestation..

Have to add that there are many good priests and bishops; many of whom are persecuted for their orthodoxy by those bishops who are faith less. Though the faithful priests are beginning to fight back, no matter the consequences. Strength in numbers. Stand with Altman.com

This is what happens when a religion becomes a front for the acquirement of wealth and power.
Corrupt to the core and much more prevalent than we realize.
Definitely NOT God's intention. This is why I believe in God, but religion, not so much.

#11, according to a John Jay criminal report that came out nearly two decades ago, 87% of cases of sexual abuse reported in the RCC are young men between the ages of 14 and 17. That's not pedophilia. It's more like homosexuality.

Thank you, #15, #25 and #27. For anyone, either a Catholic-hater or Faithful Catholic, who wishes to know the truth, McCarrick the evil cleric, has been completely DEFROCKED, as a Cardinal, and Priest. He may NEVER say a public Mass, or celebrate the Sacraments, much less identify or present himself as a bonafide Catholic Priest! He lives someplace within the US and dementia has taken over his mind. I truly don't know if he even remembers his sinful, scandalous, former lifestyle. For anyone who knows of the depth of his former depravity, and cares for the perilous state of his soul, would PRAY for the redemption of his soul. It's called CHARITY!! And if we are so inclined, we could also include prayers for the souls he wantonly decimated that they may come back to the healing efficacy of Christ's Holy Sacraments that Christ has imbued in His Holy Catholic Church, sinners not withstanding!! HATE the SIN with vengeance, but pray that the souls of humanity be propelled heavenward within the Salvific Economy of Graces!! Amen.

Well that was stupid... stealing money from the poor...it takes all kinds when challenging the integrity of the faith... it tells me these men were not listening to their faith... after all... the fifth commandment says...Thou shalt not steal...so how they justified this theft is a wonder to me...I don't believe they followed their vows....
