A “tidal wave” of dangerous synthetic drugs is flooding New York City, with methamphetamines and fentanyl pouring over the U.S. southern border at alarming rates and quickly finding their way into local neighborhoods, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency said. This influx of dangerous drugs is having a deadly impact on the streets of New York, according to an April 30 report from local health officials. “Fentanyl is up, a heroin rise is going on in New Year City and a very new wave that hit New York City is meth,” DEA special agent Ray Donovan told The Post. “We’re seizing a lot more meth than ever before.”

Villiers-Le-Bel, France—Both fuming and bragging, the man told the police officers that he used his car as a weapon during the street battle in a northern suburb of Paris, ramming the vehicle into a fighter from a rival group.(Snip)But police say that fighting over turf or differences of race, religion and cultures wasn’t always as savage as it increasingly is now.
“It’s more and more violent,” the police major said as he worked to reconstruct this week’s chain of events, from a clash in a pipe-smoking bar to a full-blown brawl between opposing groups from Pakistani and North African communities.

An 87-year-old shopper was sucker-punched by an unhinged woman after the octogenarian exited a Morton Williams grocery in Gramercy Saturday morning, cops and witnesses said. “You can’t even go to the supermarket these days!” a stunned Carmela Garcea told The Post, following the unprovoked 8:50 a.m. attack outside the store, located on East 23rd Street, between First and Second avenues. The unhinged woman came up from behind Garcea, clocked the 87-year-old in the head and then crossed street and lay down on the sidewalk.(Snip) The NYPD said the victim was on her way home when her “mumbling” assailant

“He was a good kid,” Lovick’s older brother told the Daily News on Friday. “He played basketball.

“I am sorry I must write you that we are not authorized to consider for admission a member of the Negro race. I regret that we cannot help you.”
That was nearly the whole response that a young Marion Hood got from Emory University on August 5, 1959, a week after applying to its medical school.
The last of the four sentences was a postscript from admission director L.L. Clegg: “I am returning herewith your $5.00 application fee.” Hood gathered his $5 and went on to graduate studies before attending medical school at Loyola University in Chicago. Then he returned to Atlanta to establish himself

California is adopting former Donald Trump's plan to thin out the state's 33 million acres of forests with controlled burns and raking the woodland floor —after state officials essentially laughed off the former president's idea a few years ago. Trump had suggested in 2018 that the Golden State start sweeping its forest floors of debris that often aids in the spread of wildfires. But by Aug. 2020, at the peak of the state's wildfire season, his suggestion became an ultimatum when he withheld wildfire financial aid on the basis of California's failure to clear its forests of dead trees, branches and leaves, Politico reported at the time.

Hours after he was released without bail for stealing a car, a Connecticut man carjacked a man in Brooklyn and took off with two toddlers in the backseat, police said Saturday. Khalil Ivey allegedly treated the streets around W. 15th St. and Surf Ave. in Coney Island like his own demolition derby after he forced a 43-year-old man out of his Chrysler sedan at 10:30 p.m. on Friday. Ivey, 24, accosted the victim as he was securing a 2-year-old and 18-month-old girl into carseats, cops said. The man fought Ivey off, but the Waterbury resident

“It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs……” So goes the opening sentence of Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel The Bell Jar, referring to the Jewish American couple, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage and sent to the electric chair exactly 68 years ago today. Their execution casts a morbid shadow over Plath’s book, just as it did over the United States, and it is seen by many as the nadir of America’s engagement with the cold war.(Snip) During their trial, Ethel in particular was vilified for prioritising communism over her children, and the prosecution insisted

It’s a late-breaking case of electoral bondage. Zack Weiner, 26, a City Council candidate running in Manhattan, has found his campaign tied up after video of him enjoying a sadomasochism session found its way onto Twitter.
“My magnificent domme friend played with Upper West Side city council candidate Zack Weiner and I’m the only one who has the footage,” reads a tweet from the anonymous account which posted the video last week. The footage—flagged to The Post by Weiner’s own campaign manager—shows a gagged Weiner, unable to speak, subjecting himself to various abuses by a leather-bound woman who pours wax on him

The statue of Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi in Washington Square Park was vandalized, police said Friday.
Cops say illegible graffiti was found Thursday spray-painted on three sides of the statue of Garibaldi, an Italian leader credited with helping to unify Italy in the 19th century.
The Greenwich Village park has recently been embroiled in controversy, with residents and merchants fed up with park-goers who party at all hours.

Darius Dotch chuckled in the midst of a Juneteenth performance last Saturday in St. Cloud. The onstage moment wasn't a mistake. He was re-enacting an 1865 letter from Jourdon Anderson, a Black man who escaped slavery in Tennessee, to his former master, who had wanted him to return to bondage. The actor and hip-hop artist lingered on a moment of droll poignancy.(Snip)Black people mark Juneteenth with recitations of historical texts, theater, poetry, dance, music and art. Some also commune through food and drink, parades and family games. The holiday is seen as one where Black people can be their authentic selves.
