Virgin Galactic's VSS Unity SpaceShipTwo spacecraft has successfully completed its first spaceflight from New Mexico's Spaceport America. Together with WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft VMS Eve, VSS Unity ascended to an altitude of 50,000 feet before a 9:26 a.m. MDT drop that sent VSS Unity rocketing upward into space. The launch window above Spaceport America – located just south of Truth or Consequences, N.M. – opened at 8 a.m. MDT. The crewed mission was piloted by Kelly Latimer and Michael Masucci aboard VMS Eve and CJ Sturckow and Dave Mackay on VSS Unity.

Comments:

Congratulations to SS2 and the Virgin Galactic team. I had a number of friends on the team who built and flew SS1, including the pilot, first commercial astronaut, but now most of the SS2 team are new folks, and my friends have retired or moved on to other companies. Well done! Truly private space flight.

In the months leading up to Memorial Day, 17-year-old Christian Juvet decided to restore a massive concrete American flag in his local California park for his Eagle Scout project. Juvet said he noticed that the concrete flag memorial was in "disarray, had graffiti on it, skid marks, all sorts of dirt and gunk on it." "I did some research and found out the historic significance of it and that it was actually made during World War II to honor veterans," Juvet told Fox News Saturday. Once he found out how important the monument to veterans was, he knew he had to refurbish it, so he and other scouts

From the beginning of COVID's outbreak in China, there's been a steady drumbeat of information saying the Chinese created COVID in a lab and, accidentally or on purpose, unleashed it on the world. The World Health Organization, the Democrats, the Deep State, and the tech tyrants managed to suppress that information in 2020, but it's roared back this year. Tucker Carlson put the pieces together in his opening monologue and, with help from Chinese scientist Li-Meng Yan, makes it plain that, even if China didn't deliberately release the virus, it turned it into a weapon of biological warfare by withholding information about it. Here's Tucker's monologue.

Reform-minded activists in California vow to move forward after a bill that would have dramatically reduced, and in some cases eliminated, enhanced sentences for crimes committed while using a gun failed to advance through the legislature Thursday. "AB 1509 was held in the Appropriations committee and will not move forward this year," Greg Fidell, policy manager of Initiate Justice, wrote on Twitter. "This is very painful - but we will be back stronger next year."

A pair of good Samaritans in Florida stopped to help a deputy who was being attacked by a suspect during a traffic stop this week, a local sheriff said. Deputy Anthony Zimmerer with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stopped a black Ford F-150 after the vehicle cut across all lanes of traffic and almost struck him, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shared deputy bodycam footage of what followed during the stop. The driver, 41-year-old Frank Padilla Velez, began acting erratically when Zimmerer tried to speak with him, according to the sheriff’s office. As the deputy tried to handcuff him, Padilla hit him in the head

A Wednesday morning police chase in Florida’s Broward County ended with five juveniles in custody and several others injured, according to authorities and shocking video. Police were called shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a Fort Lauderdale home being burglarized while people were inside. According to the caller, the suspects were trying to steal a car from the garage of the home, police said. They got away, but not before police were provided with a description of their vehicle. When cops caught up to the getaway car and tried to pull it over, the suspects refused and a police chase ensued, authorities said.

The United States Army’s Assistant Secretary for Installations, Energy and Environment released a memo on May 14 that identifies climate change as a “serious threat to U.S. national security interests and defense objectives.” According to the memo, the president and secretary of defense have directed the Army to prioritize “climate change considerations in its threat picture, strategic plans, operations, and installations.” In January, Defense News reported that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin wants the Department of Defense (DOD) to “change its carbon footprint.” In April, Secretary Austin called climate change “an existential threat.” To that end, the memo states that the Army convened a 24-member

As the public faces escalating demands that we become test subjects for an experimental "vaccine," and "vaccine passports" loom as a method of denying rights to those who decline, it turns out that employees at Dr. Fauci's unit of the NIH, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, are not playing along enthusiastically. The same seems to go for the FDA and the CDC. Watch as Senator Burr of North Carolina asks Dr. Fauci, Peter Marks of the FDA, and CDC director Rochelle Walensky how many of their employees are vaccinated: Senator Burr asked Fauci, Peter Marks from the FDA

Renaissance education is the foundation of the modern university system. It was based on the concept of the Universal Man or Uomo Universale. As mankind was the ultimate creation of God, it was man’s job to reach his maximum by continual self-improvement. This idea led to the notion that men should try to embrace all knowledge and develop their own capacities as fully as possible. To be a Renaissance man, one must develop his knowledge base as well as his craft. Perhaps no person embodies this concept more than Renaissance artist, scientist, and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. In Leonardo, a duality of the mind and hands is found.

The critics who regarded him alongside Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon now insist that he ranks somewhere beneath Morris Albert but above Fergie. Lurking among the jubilant Americans venturing back out to bars and planning their summer-wedding travel is a different group: liberals who aren’t quite ready to let go of pandemic restrictions. For this subset, diligence against COVID-19 remains an expression of political identity—even when that means overestimating the disease’s risks or setting limits far more strict than what public-health guidelines permit. In surveys, Democrats express more worry about the pandemic than Republicans do. People who describe themselves as “very liberal” are distinctly anxious. This spring, after the vaccine rollout had started, a third of very liberal people were “very concerned” about becoming seriously ill
