Oakland Athletics to start looking at
relocating elsewhere

The Oakland Athletics on Tuesday said they will start exploring the possibility of relocating with the blessing of Major League Baseball, a move that could put pressure on local government officials to greenlight a new stadium project that has spent years in limbo. The A's, who have played in Oakland since 1968, have prioritized building a waterfront stadium in downtown Oakland at the Howard Terminal site. But after years of failed stadium plans -- and weeks after the organization requested that the city council vote on the $12 billion mixed-use development before its late-July summer recess -- the long-anticipated specter of the A's looking into relocation became a reality on Tuesday.

I recall when the Oakland Coliseum and Stadium were built. I can't belive they're worn out. But that was when you could go to the Oakland area with reasonable safety. I wouldn't go now with a fully armed company of men.

There was a time when this would have broken my heart, but now I couldn't give a $h_t. Gave up on all sports a while ago. And Oakland is simply a cesspool. I have a few stories of just how "Pleasant" Oakland is from when I worked there during the 80’s. A couple of those years I happened to work across the street from the Coliseum where the A’s and Raiders played. Trust me, it is only gotten worse since then.

Gee, I wonder if it's because Oakland has become a crime ridden sewer? An aunt, uncle and a grandmother used to live in Oakland back when it was a beautiful place. Later moved to well north of LA.

If they want to stadium they can build it themselves with their own money instead of burdening the taxpayers with it who are already overtaxed!

I would not feel safe in Oakland unless I was protected by a panzer division. Been there lately? I have and shuddered at the experience. I felt safer amongst the homeless across the bay.

This is a perfect example of the absurdity of having any kind of local loyalty to a ''professional'' sports team. Practically none of the players, owners, or managers are from the location and have no roots there. They have merely chosen it as the headquarters of their for-profit entertainment/advertising corporation. If a better deal were to come along, they'd bolt for a new city in a heartbeat. Meanwhile, the stupid rube fans pretend like it is their team, wearing team swag, and cheering at the games ''we won'' as if they had anything to do with it.

I doubt any of those other cities are in the mood to build a Billion Dollar stadium for a mediocre team. The A's are stuck in their aging concrete 'ring' for the foreseeable future.

Thank you all above posters. Pro sports right now is for chumps. If Oakland wants a baseball stadium they can build one with the profits from whatever team of adults - from Oakland - they can muster to play the game and build a fan base. When the players come from Cuba, Mexico, Japan and the East Coast and the owners can pull up stakes and leave in a whim what has “ Oakland” got to do with it?

How can one relocate anywhere but elsewhere? It does not matter to me where they play as long as I'm not there. S'matter, the walls and fences around the Oakland stadium not high enough to keep out the barbarian hordes?

Every politician takes care of his base. Biden's base just happens to be illegal. In more ways than one. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona on Tuesday finalized a new regulation that allows colleges to distribute tens of billions in federal pandemic relief grants to all students, regardless of their immigration status or whether they qualify for federal student aid. The final regulation, set to be released Tuesday by the Education Department, replaces a policy that then-Education Secretary Betsy DeVos enacted through an interim regulation last year.

A small group of Valley Forge High School students marched down Longwood Avenue in Parma on Friday to demonstrate for Muslim and other non-Christian students who they say do not get academic relief on holidays. “I never realized that it was an issue until I kind of realized it,” said junior Zaina Al-Taher. Along with Valley Forge junior Mai Mostafa, Zaina organized the event to highlight the inequality and lack of intersectionality, since students from different religious backgrounds don’t get the same treatment that Christian students get on holidays like Christmas or Easter.

The Catholic Church has lost touch with the “living reality” of LGBT+ people, said one of more than 100 German priests who are defying the Vatican this week by blessing same-sex couples. In a move that angered liberals within the 1.3 billion-member Church, the Vatican’s doctrinal office said in March that priests cannot bless same-sex unions in lieu of marriage, despite ministers doing so in countries such as Germany. “If we say that God is love, I cannot tell people who embrace loyalty, unity and responsibility to each other that theirs is not love, that it’s a fifth-or sixth-class love,” said Christian Olding, a priest in the western city of Geldern.

Given all the community food drives the Islamic Center of Greater Miami (ICGM) has conducted, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the testing and vaccinations it has co-sponsored, one could be fooled into thinking that the center is a civic minded institution. It is easy to understand why the NFL’s Miami Dolphins would want to be a part of such “charitable” endeavors. However, there is a dark side to ICGM – a side linked to terror and bigotry – which overshadows its “charitable” activities.

In 1867, Karl Marx published Das Kapital. And it was Trump’s fault. Or as Jim Geraghty at the National Review argues that the "the most lasting legacy of the Trump presidency will be a culturally dominant progressive left." Geraghty blames President Trump for undermining a strategy of polite surrender that is exactly the reason why the Left dominates our culture (as it has for 70 years), our politics, and now even corporations. The culturally dominant progressive left that the National Review was built to fight against, before it decided to instead fight against Trump, was around long before Trump was born.

America’s biggest cash crop has rarely been more expensive. Corn prices have risen roughly 50% in 2021 and a bushel costs more than twice what it did a year ago. Corn has been one of the sharpest risers in the broad rally in raw materials that is prompting companies to boost prices for goods and fueling concern among investors that inflation could hobble the post-pandemic economic recovery. Lumber prices have shot to more than four times what is typical, pushing up home prices and obliterating renovation budgets. Copper, a cog of industry found throughout the home and in electronics, hit record prices Friday.

The Ohio Republican Party on Friday passed resolutions censuring U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez and calling on him to resign for voting in January to impeach ex-President Donald Trump. Gonzalez, from Rocky River, is the latest Republican to be rebuked by their state parties for supporting impeachment proceedings against Trump in January. Trump was impeached by the U.S. House for inciting a riot at the U.S. Capitol as President Joe Biden’s electoral victory was being certified, though the Senate did not vote to convict him. Every spring the Supreme Court seems to find itself in the headlines with consequential rulings on the horizon. This spring is no different. Over the coming weeks, major cases impacting various aspects of American life are poised for rulings. One of the biggest outstanding cases involves the Affordable Care Act. The Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that it was constitutional, but this is a new challenge. This challenge was brought by conservatives who believe the last ruling was only ruled constitutional because the Supreme Court interpreted the law as a tax. Congress has since removed tax penalties from the law and therefore critics believe justices now have grounds to strike down the entire law.

Male-pattern baldness — or 'androgenetic alopecia' — is a common, genetically-determined form of hair loss that affects around 50 per cent of men aged over 50. [SNIP] Researchers found that male patients with a common biomarker linked to hair loss appeared to be significantly more susceptive to severe coronavirus infections. Specifically, these men were more sensitive to male hormones known as androgens, which is also found in patients with androgenetic alopecia.
