The Texas senate has approved in a 18–13 vote a bill to allow Texans to carry handguns without a license. House Bill 1927 would eliminate the requirement for Texas citizens to acquire a permit to carry handguns if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from owning a firearm. The measure, already passed by the Texas House last week, now heads to a conference committee for the two chambers to debate amendments and settle differences until the House and Senate versions are identical. The bill will then go to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk for his final signature.

I believe that Texas now joins the 20 other patriotic red states that understand and affirm the Second Amendment via state law. It would have been appropriate to mention that in the article, as it appears that nearly half of the states now allow permitless carry.

On the news when they feature any street criminal who is being prosecuted for murder the list of past offenses always include ''felon in possession of a firearm'', ''illegal weapons'', etc. yet these repeat criminals are released and rearrested. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's about time. If they are not going to bother to enforce firearms laws and put away criminals, why even have a law prohibiting permitless carry?

AWESOME NEWS!
I would hope that a civil society with the freedom to carry remembers to learn how to handle a gun same way someone would want to learn how to drive a car without getting into a wreck. Here’s to hoping a lot of training centers open up (job creation for the win!)

So when the stats come in from Texas and other right-to-carry states showing that there is no escalation in gun violence, other states will relax their restrictions as well because - the science!

The one correlation we aren't supposed to draw conclusions from is between the decline in violent crime and the expansion of concealed carry in the US. As John Lott accurately stated with scientific backing, more guns less crime.
Not to mention "bear arms" and "shall not be infringed" doesn't allow the condition: as long as nobody knows.
About the only practical drawback I can think of (not from a constitutional perspective) is if those who currently carry concealed were to do so openly. a criminal may be emboldened if he or she doesn't see anyone carrying. With concealment they have that fear of who might be armed.

Just got my Texas LTC renewed. I plan on keeping it, as it makes reciprocity work for my neighboring states, where I do travel from time to time.
Other than that...woo hoo! about time Dan Patrick got out of the way.

There a lot of would-be cowboys here in WA. Pickup trucks outnumber SUV's. At times, it felt a little bit like TX. And then I noticed the difference. No rifle racks in the WA pickups.

I'm a bit ambivalent about this. I have my Texas Carry License, and recently renewed it, but I had to go through training and a practical test to obtain it. I'm afraid to think about the Grannies and Millennials who run out and buy a handgun who have never even shot one, much less know anything about firearm safety. You have to THINK before you shoot, as others could be hurt or killed. So, playing this out, Grannie gets a gun, pulls it out and shoots someone who meant them no harm. Now the anti-gun freaks have a huge club with which to beat Texas in the media. Not only I have this concern. Granted, you can buy a gun and protect your home, but carrying it around in public should be restricted to those who have had some formal gun safety training. Texans may regret how this gets abused.

Welcome, Texas. We have had this in Kansas since 2015. No bad effects, and a few more bad folks finding an armed 'victim', which we call a good thing.
Keep your licensing system, though. You'll need your permit in many other states, unfortunately.

Tennessee never had a state wide mask mandate and our legislature passed (62-29) permit less carry that goes into effect July 1. We also banned Critical Race Theory in our Schools and eliminated sentence reductions for rape, assault, sex trafficking, and 31 total sex related crimes many against children.
It seems like our legislators and governors have awoken from their stupor and plan to fortify against the pending federal onslaught.

#16, Georgia is one of the 30 states that does NOT have Constitutional Carry at this time.
But, since 20 states have it, and nothing bad has happened for many years in those states, it is making it more attractive to other states. Restrictions on concealed carry are rapidly going away.
Freedom is contagious.

#14, I understand your concern, and it does seem reasonable, but the facts prove otherwise.
When the KS CCW bill passed, I was selected by the KS Attorney General to be one of the people on the various committees of experts and 'stakeholders' appointed to advise the KS AG on regulations. I was on the subcommittee for writing training regulations. For this purpose, I investigated the training requirements of other states with CCW licensing, and cross checked their training requirements with firearms accidents and 'improper' shootings by CCW license holders. This was done for about 20 states.
The training requirements ran from no training required, to 4, 8 and even 16 hours of classroom and range training mandated. Comparing training with accidents and "improper shootings" by CCW licensees showed zero correlation with more training and less accidents, etc. My theory on why this is true is that people who choose to go armed are exceptionally careful, and seek out training whether it is required or not. In fact, I have trained many people who sought training that was not required, but that they desired to become safer and more skilled gun owners.
Subsequent removal of any requirements for licensing for the past six years in Kansas (and 19 other states, many for longer) has shown no increase in accidents or improper shootings by CCW holders. Both are exceptionally rare. Improper shootings by CCW holders is even lower than the very low incidence of improper shootings by police officers.
Yes, the concern seems real and logical. But the facts belie the hypothesis.
