In 1971, first-time novelist Frederick Forsyth, a former RAF pilot, journalist, and war correspondent, published “The Day of the Jackal,” a grippingly realistic thriller about an anonymous hired assassin known only as the Jackal, who very nearly assassinates French president Charles de Gaulle in revenge for his abandonment of France’s long-time colony of Algeria in 1962. (snip) Cut to France today, where last week some 20 retired French generals and other officers and enlisted men (some of them still serving) penned a startling open letter, directly addressed to president Emmanuel Macron

No, actually, this craziness started in 1789. Back then, it was called "enlightenment." Now it is called "wokeness." It has taken France 230 years to realize the errors of their ways.

Tourists may be misled about France and even Paris if they limit their visits to Normandy, the basilica of Mont marte or the Eifel Tower. Parts of the country, especially Paris are dreadful places filled with Muslims and living only loosely under French law. These conditions have been caused if not encouraged by leftwing politicians with compliance of the French media. California has been taken over by these same type of politicians, Democrats wanting only the worse for our country. Ameican media is compliant. What is now fact in Paris, police avoiding some neighborhoods, is beginning to appear in Los Angeles. French voters are responsible for their deteriorating country. California voters are responsible for bad schools, bad highways, high taxes, filthy homelessness and incredibly dangerous cities. The governor wants to release another 76 thousand violent criminals from prison early. This is because Democrats are in charge and stupid voters clap and cheer.

Best wishes to France.
They really do need to eject a huge swath of Islamic folks who despise them, their country, their culture, and their way of life. These Muslims have zero interest in becoming French, and carrying on French traditions. They intend to erase the French and their traditions, one way or another. And unfortunately, some portion of actual Frenchmen are just fine with that happening.
If they are serious about saving their country, Muslims need to be ejected with no quarter. 100%, like curing cancer. Cannot leave any cancerous cells behind, they'll just grow into a new tumor.

The French Foreign Legion almost deposed the coward de Gaulle because of France granting Algeria sovereignty and pulling the Legion out of the country, leaving behind their cemeteries containing fallen Legionnaires. It was no laughing matter and serious enough for the French government to strike a deal with the Legion in exchange for never trying that again. Populism is nothing new in France. Neither is the military taking control of the government something never done before.

The “cheese eating surrender monkeys” cliche is funny but anyone who has studied Gallic history knows it is not their habit to be meek. When aroused they have proven fearless and bloodthirsty in battle.
The unspeakable carnage of WWI brought about the complete exhaustion of French resolve and consequently the French people fell into malaise, false pride and a sustained and almost comical display of the petulance that has always been a prominent feature of the Gallic soul. One hundred years later and sorely challenged by evolutionary throwbacks of inferior discipline, religion and habits of thought, can the French revive their weary spirits? In any case they will fail to protect their country unless they wise up and return to a love and respect for the true God of the Bible without whose protection they are lost.

#8, you are probably aware that DeGaulle was an obnoxious, arrogant ass, on his best days, and had only a segment of the French military supporting him originally. The other French military leaders that Ike had to deal with in North Africa were even worse, unfortunately, and after Admiral Darlan was assassinated, the Algerian French were easier to deal with.
But still, the French upper command hated FDR and there are serious scholars who opine that Ike funded the assassination of Darlan, which if the French believed it, would be a good reason from their view to hate FDR. I don't know that this is true, but no question Darlan was a serious stumbling block to getting the French to fight with the Allies. And DeGaulle, did that....but was prickly and extremely difficult to deal with, and he always hated America, at least based on his actions, even decades after the end of the war.
A big problem was that FDR trusted Stalin far more than Churchill did, and this soured things repeatedly. FDR was a poor judge of character, and had Wallace, a communist working for the Kremlin, as VP, no doubt whispering in his ear and was taken in repeatedly by Stalin. FDR made some serious errors because of it. Ultimately this cost the whole of Eastern Europe going into Stalin's control for decades. FDR was more of a disaster than a hero, IMO. I tend to think that DeGaulle was a similar mess.
