About one-third of the employees of software developer Basecamp have quit their jobs after the company’s founders asked them to focus on developing software, rather than get involved in politics at work.
Basecamp co-founder and CEO Jason Fried told employees that “every discussion remotely related to politics, advocacy, or society at large quickly spins away from pleasant.”
“We make project management, team communication, and email software. We are not a social impact company,” Fried added, encouraging employees to focus on their jobs rather than politics while in the workplace.
While such a policy is long overdue, we're talking 57 total employees here. Not quite a mass movement.

#1 it's a start. About time someone actually said it outloud!

What's a sad commentary on our country today is that 57 employees felt they had a right to stray from their obligations to their employer. Their unspoken contract that says "you do the work and I pay you" just didn't apply to them so they quit.

Good luck on your next job interviews explaining your reason for leaving! I’d move back in with mommy now if you don’t already live there! Your job search is going to be “interesting”!!!!!

This is the first article I have seen where it explains what triggered this new policy. It comes down to the fact that it was not enough for the company and its employees to say about something from the past, "Yeah, that was a bad idea, we should not have done it and we will not do it anymore." The "woke" employees wanted the company and its employees to spend an indefinite amount of time paying penance for having broken the "woke code".

It is not too much to require employees to politic and pursue their pet projects on their own time. If they are so concerned about ''equity'' they can donate their own money to charities of their choice.

The ones who stomped off in a snit were probably the biggest problems. Smart move Basecamp.

Since those "employees" were doing things other than their job while at work, seems this is a win-win for the company. Now the company is not having to pay these woke idiots for not doing their job.

There was a time in America when you "made an impact" by feeding, clothing, and housing your family. That "impact" was epitomized by an ample Thanksgiving Dinner.
Now, the generation that can't fix themselves, let alone provide for themselves, wants to fix everybody else.

I worked for a very liberal law firm but employees were forbidden from using F-ckbook and Twatter while on the job. Smart move. They understood that even a liberal law firm needed to get client needs serviced

This story further validates what I have observed about the numbers of liberals vs normal people. If the media is occupied elsewhere and hasn’t yet manipulated the numbers, you will see a fairly consistent 65/35 split. There are more of us than there are of them, they just have the louder megaphone.

The ones that left were likely the LOW Talent folks...I'm a software person from way way back...and I can tell you from experience, it's a small percentage of the workers that do the heavy lifting, the rest look for someone else's parade to run get in front of...in other words they are sorry programmers...good riddance!

Now, it would be great if there was a way to stop government workers from using their work-issued phones, e-mail systems, tablets and computers for political and advocacy use.
Especially during work hours.

Jason Fried is fried. Losing one third of your programmers, no matter what size the company can easily cause enough turmoil to bring it down. Ross Perot had this happen to him when he tried to get too dictatorial at some of his EDS locations but he had enough backup cash to hire contractors and recover. EDS had a lot failures, beginning with GM. Computer programming is much more than coding and your value is in the collective knowledge held by your employees.
