California is giving 76,000 inmates, including violent and repeat felons, the opportunity to leave prison earlier as the state aims to further trim the population of what once was the nation’s largest state correctional system.More than 63,000 inmates convicted of violent crimes will be eligible for good behavior credits that shorten their sentences by one-third instead of the one-fifth that had been in place since 2017. That includes nearly 20,000 inmates who are serving life sentences with the possibility of parole. The new rules take effect Saturday but it will be months or years before any inmates go free earlier. What could possibly go wrong? I suggest releasing them in batches outside the houses of celebrities.

newsunce has done some really stupid stuff, but this tops it all. Let's get rid of the cops and let 75,000 criminals on the street. Yeah, that's the ticket.

And you can be certain that about 80-90% will be back doing crimes within a week or two.
So, 76,000 additional criminals delivered to the streets of Cali, if just 50% ( ridiculously low estimate) go back to crime, expect 38,000 crimes to be committed that wouldn't be committed if they were still inside a prison.
More likely, ballpark 40% in San Fran area, 55% in LA area and 5% in San Diego area, VERY rough guess. And more likely 80% at least will go back to crime, so 60,000+ "new crimes" statewide, roughly 24,000 in SanFran, 33,000 in LA, and 3,000 in San Diego.
Sounds like fun times in California. Thank your wonderful governor for this.

There’s a very nice little vineyard in Napa that has plenty of room for these guys. I’m sure that Nasty will welcome them.

We know who an we know what, but we don't know why. There must be some motive for releasing incarcerated criminals onto the public.

Not like it will make any difference to the overall situation in California. The homeless population will go up, but again, what difference does it make?

Math: not 76k crimes. 76k criminals. Expect each to commit more than one crime fore they're picked up again, if ever.
It's hundreds of thousands if not millions of crimes from 76k criminals.

They should all sign pledges to not drink alcohol not do drugs or get hookers after they get out and go to church every Sunday and volunteer at a local homeless shelter and food bank. Plus to attend 90 meetings in 90 days of Alcoholics Anonymous get a sponsor and work the Steps.

#14, my estimate was for the first few weeks after they are released. Longer term, you're right, hundreds of thousands new crimes.

Pretty funny there, #16.
I'd bet that less than 1 percent would follow your excellent plan, sad to say.
But 1 percent would be 760....maybe I'm being Pollyanna with that estimate.

Not only is California releasing felons, they are very weak at prosecuting criminals. The state has gone absolutely mad. Their leaders are determined to support the most vile and criminal elements and punish the few good people left in the state. This is what happens when lawlessness meets depravity. It would be good for the rest of us if they would keep that crazy right where it belongs in the place of its birth.

The amount of governmental funds for each convict is $100,000 per year... so the California democrats in Sacramento have lots of money to buy votes with if they set these convicts free....let's do some math here... 20,000 convicts times $100,000 equals $20,000,000....never might that the California population will be put in jeopardy...it's all about power...control...and funds for politicians with off shore accounts... now that newsom is going to be recalled... he needed some retirement money....

Chain + tent: prison accomplished, recidivism reduced.
Tents are humane or they wouldn’t force homeowners to let drug addicts pitch them in their front lawns.
