In 2005, then-Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) delivered a Senate floor speech about President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's doomed 1937 plan to "pack" the U.S. Supreme Court. FDR's plan would have permitted him to add six justices, immediately securing a pro-New Deal judicial majority. But "in an act of great courage, Roosevelt's own party stood up against this institutional power grab," Biden recounted 16 years ago. "They did not agree with the judicial activism of the Supreme Court, but they believed that Roosevelt was wrong to seek to defy established traditions as a way of stopping that activism."

The Left does not like rules. It wants what it wants. No matter that those "rules" or lack of them has resulted in legal baby-killing. The Left has forgotten History. It used to be that Kings and Queens had absolute power, and whatever the Royal wanted, he got. Then cam the Magna Carta and Parliament, and (gasp) the Constitution of the United States.
But the Constitution, as George Washing said) will not stand up in a culture that has disposed of God.
Oops! I think i mentioned the clue to correcting the problem.

Amazing to see this in Newsweak, but a great quote from the Senate of FDR's time, intending to echo down the ages.
"Let us of the Seventy-fifth Congress, in words that will never be disregarded by any succeeding Congress, declare that we would rather have an independent Court, a fearless Court, a Court that will dare to announce its honest opinions in what it believes to be the defense of the liberties of the people, than a Court that, out of fear or sense of obligation to the appointing power, or factional passion, approves any measure we may enact. We are not the judges of the judges. We are not above the Constitution."
And Traitor Joe was against this just a few years ago, and now, in his addled, ultra partisan state, he's on the wrong side of this, too.

And notice that the quote in #2 is pretty directly calling out Spineless Roberts for his cowardly actions "... out of fear or sense of obligation to the appointing power,"
Kind of aimed directly at the heart of Dread Coward Roberts, isn't it. From the range of 84 years, the 75th Congress scored a bullseye on Robert's cowardice.

Even more shameful is the reality that law school nowadays is populated by leftist teachers and impressionable children students. There are ever fewer judges characterized by judicial restraint and faithfulness to our Constitution. So we are left with judges at EVERY level who pretend to be conservative but like Chief Justice Roberts fail the tests of actual cases when such are brought before the courts.

All of this stuff isn't about packing the Court, it is about instilling fear about packing the Court. It is designed to be a Howitzer aimed at Roberts' fragile hold of the Court.

Great article. That it came from Newsweek is mind-blowing. I hope this foreshadows a trend, but I doubt it.

The rats cannot compete on a level playing field. Biden, the FRAUD, needs to be removed, along with all who claim to be his administration. Hopefully, there is a Federal Facility near DC that will "hold" his entire fraudulent staff prior to their trials and their just rewards...

Shamefull??? Not my first choice of descriptors.
Is there any doubt that if they are successful that the media won't, with Great fanfare, praise and celebration declare it the best thing since sliced bread to save the democracy.
If one wants to expand the court, do it by adding a justice for every new president until your magic number is reached. Just adding 4 for the most liberal president to appoint is partisanship at its absolute worst.

The federal judiciary is an un-elected, un-accountable political cabal, an enemy of the Constitution and of the American people. It needs to go.

I would not have expected Newsweek to publish an opinion piece like this. It’s excellent.
