An Upper West Side man is cold-cocked in Chelsea. An unhinged stranger throws a roundhouse at a woman outside a subway station on the Upper West Side. A Catholic deacon and another man are pummeled in separate smackdowns in the Bronx. It’s up for debate whether this spate of disturbing incidents is a return of the so-called knockout game, the sick spree of assaults that terrorized New Yorkers a few years ago, but it’s a still a gut-punch to frightened residents already on edge.(Snip) On Monday a stranger punched a 67-year-old man in the face on a Queens subway

You’d be forgiven for wondering what an urban rail system in Honolulu has to do with crushing the coronavirus. Yet tucked inside last month’s nearly $2 trillion COVID-19 spending spree is $70 million headed for Hawaii to bail out a struggling 20-mile railway that has been under construction for a decade, was supposed to have opened a year ago, hasn’t carried a single passenger, and despite the federal help will still find itself a few billion—with a B—in the red.(Snip) For budget watchdogs, the railway is a cautionary tale in boondogglery, combining the worst impulses of local government officials

The gunman in the FedEx shooting spree was previously known to federal and local authorities—and had been flagged up to law enforcement by a concerned family member before the deadly attack, according to a report Friday.
The suspect, who committed suicide after killing eight at the Indiana facility Thursday night, has not been publicly identified by police. But CNN reporter Ana Cabrera said he’s no stranger to law enforcement. “Authorities were warned about FedEx suspect’s potential for violence in the past, sources say,” Cabrera tweeted. “The suspect in the Indianapolis mass shooting was known to federal and local authorities prior to the attack.”

Hunter Biden's new autobiography, Beautiful Things posted disappointing sales in its first week on the shelves, selling just over 10,000 copies despite a massive promotional push. The new 272-page book detailing Hunter's struggles with addiction and tragedy debuted at #12 on the Publisher's Weekly hardcover nonfiction chart, after selling a meager 10,638 copies.
It was edged out slightly in the rankings by 'The Calcium Connection: The Little-Known Enzyme at the Root of Your Cellular Health.' Topping the list was poet Amanda Gorman's The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country, which sold 42,000 copies for the week.
