Speed caused the rollover car crash that left Tiger Woods seriously injured, Los Angeles County authorities said Wednesday.
The accident was also due to Woods' "inability to negotiate the curve of the roadway," Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a news conference.Woods was driving at an estimated 84 to 87 mph during the Feb. 23 accident in Southern California, Villanueva said. Woods was driving in a 45 mph zone, according to The Associated Press. It's believed that Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Capt. James Powers said.
The car was moving at 75 mph when Woods struck a tree, the sheriff said.

"It's believed that Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake..."
Many years ago when we were teenagers, my brother totaled his car (though thank God he was able to walk away from the wreck). He ran off the road and flipped his car. He tried to use that same excuse with my dad. It did not go well for him (to say the least). He was riding his bicycle everywhere until he was 20.
Hopefully the judge will look beyond Tiger's "popular athlete privilege" and teach him a very valuable lesson (like my dad did for my brother -- who, thank God -- never had another wreck to this day)!!!!!

FTA - "Woods was speeding but the decision was made not to issue a citation, the sheriff said. No one witnessed the crash and Woods did not receive any special treatment from police, Villanueva said."
Villanueva, you can call it what ever you want. In my language, Woods received special treatment by not being cited for speeding, careless driving, and not having his driver's license revoked.
Meanwhile, his pro golf days are over as a result of his injuries.

Is it legal to cross the median and lose control of a vehicle? The physical evidence is overwhelming, and a guilty plea would be routine.

Woods was running late for an appointment recording golf tips, in a location he was not familiar with, in a loaner car he was not familiar with, on a road he was not familiar with. Perfect recipe for an accident.

He still injured no one except himself. I've no problem with his not being cited.

Wow, I don't think that's ever happened before. Good grief! Really? It took them this long to figure that out. Drag out those headlines though.

they pulled out the biggest blanket in the closet to cover Tiger on this one. he nodded off and woke up as the vehicle was careening over the median and into the opposite lane. happens all the time. but the speed factor is substantial and, really, cannot be justified. at the least he should lose his license for 6-12 months but doubt that will happen.

Do tell. What an amazing conclusion, I'm sure everyone had previously thought that he crashed because he was going too slowly.

All newer cars have electronic incident collection devices: AKA the"black box" The car knows how fast you were going, if you had your seat belt on, if and when the brakes were applied, were your hands on the wheel...all kinds of information. The black box would know exactly when the accelerator was engaged.

In the scheme of things, with Biden kow towing to the CCP, the far left cabal installed in the White House actually running the show and the nonsense that has ensued at the border because of Dementia Joe's EOs do we really need to get worked up about what did or didn't happen to Tiger Woods? I mean seriously, I just don't care.

You guys have to learn the proper new language. Calling Woods a celebrity, or saying he received special treatment because he has "popular athlete" status is just NOT gonna cut it anymore. Call him an ELITIST. That's about the worst thing anyone can be called nowadays. There are no acceptable excuses for being one and I'm sure in a social situation not a single soul would rise to his defense for fear of being branded w the E Word as well..

It may be easy to step on the accelerator instead of the brake, but a professional athlete should be able to recognize this before his vehicle gets to 85 miles an hour.

#12 may not care but I do. My brother and his family travel that street frequently going to and from their home. Someone said you couldn’t nail someone for what could have happened, but what could have happened quite easily on that usually busy street would have been a major tragedy. And I’m not talking about Tiger.
I haven’t seen anyone “worked up” about this, but the realization that there are laws for us and for “them” is disheartening.
And will he do it again somewhere? Hotheaded guy.

He was hurrying. He was upset, not wanting to be late. He was going nearly twice the 45mph speed limit. The sheriff would have thrown the book at any of us…He is a celebrity.
