In our free republic, where the God-given right to free speech is recognized by our federal and state constitutions and guaranteed by our servant governments, a recent poll of our fellow citizens should amaze no one and enrage everyone. Consider these findings:
64 percent believe there is “a growing cancel culture” threatening their freedom (36 percent disagreed);
36 percent said cancel culture is a “big problem”; 32 percent a “moderate problem”; 20 percent a “small problem”; 13 percent said it’s “not a problem”;
54 percent are “concerned” that expressing online opinions would get them banned (by Big Tech) or fired by their employer; 46 percent “were not concerned.”

One Capitol Police officer died and another was injured after a suspect rammed a vehicle into a police barricade outside the Capitol building Friday afternoon and exited his vehicle with a knife.

The Capitol police officer killed by a knife-wielding driver on Friday has been identified as veteran cop Billy Evans.
Evans had worked for the Capitol Police for 18 years.
On Friday, he was killed and one of his fellow officers was critically injured when a suspect, named by NBC as Noah Green, mowed them down in his blue Nissan Altima.
Green, who was from Indiana but has ties to Virginia, was then shot dead by other cops.
He was not known to police in Washington DC but he did have a record in another state, according to law enforcement sources.
The Washington state Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that efforts to recall Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant can move forward.
Sawant, a socialist representing Capitol Hill and the Central District, faced a recall after being accused of abusing her office by letting a large group of protesters into city hall last year with her passkey, using city resources in promoting a ballot initiative to impose taxes on Amazon, and outsourcing decisions regarding the hiring and firing of city employees to her party’s executive committee.

The Arkansas state Senate voted this week to block federal law enforcement officials enforcing certain gun laws and regulations, sending a bill to the state House in the midst of congressional gun-control proposals.
The Senate voted 28-7 to approve the measure, which will then be sent to the House. Arkansas’ Legislature is overwhelmingly Republican.

Major League Baseball has expanded its contract with Chinese firm Tencent, the streaming service that briefly blocked National Basketball Association games amid a row over Hong Kong.
The deal with Tencent gives the firm rights to continue streaming MLB games in China until 2023. Additionally, the contract will allow Tencent to broadcast MLB games in other Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, through its international service WeTV.

A Manhattan 7-Eleven worker became the city’s latest suspected victim of an anti-Asian crime—with his attacker spewing, “You Chinese motherf—er!” as he punched him, police said Sunday. An AP-NORC poll released Friday morning shows an overwhelming majority of Americans favor requiring a photo ID in order to vote.
The poll shows public support for voter reform on both sides of the aisle. Seventy-two percent of those polled supported some sort of voter identification requirements. Ninety-one percent of Republicans backed requiring all voters to provide photo ID in order to vote. Fifty-six percent of Democrats said the same.
The poll also found an overall 60 percent of Americans think adults should automatically be registered to vote when they get their driver’s license or any state identification card.
