Drawing strength from the anger she felt at being falsely confined in an Iranian prison for more than two years is how Kylie Moore-Gilbert learned to survive.
The Australian academic was held in Tehran's Evin Prison for 804 days on trumped-up spying charges after she was seized on her way to Tehran Airport in late 2018.
Dr Moore-Gilbert spent seven excruciating months in solitary confinement and has revealed the gruesome details of what she endured, in her first TV interview since her release last November.

A columnist for The New York Times has published an op-ed that claims the Looney Tunes skunk Pepe Le Pew 'normalized rape culture.'
Charles M. Blow made his critical comments in an article titled 'Six Seuss Books Bore a Bias' published in the Grey Lady in the wake of news that certain beloved Dr. Suess children's books were getting 'cancelled' for racist depictions.
In the article, Blow wrote: 'Some of the first cartoons I can remember included Pepé Le Pew, who normalized rape culture; Speedy Gonzales, whose friends helped popularize the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans.

Piles of shredded ballots were located today in a dumpster in Maricopa County Arizona. This find occurs only days before the Senate’s audit of the county’s 2020 election results is due to start. For months the Board of Supervisors in Maricopa County have blocked and delayed any independent audit performed by the Arizona Senate of the County’s results in the 2020 Presidential election. As we’ve reported previously, after being subpoenaed by the Arizona Senate and then suing the Senate to prevent a Senate audit of their 2020 election results, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (MCBOS) agreed to have an audit if they could

All over the country, there are businesses, schools, and churches that are still not allowed to reopen, but it’s a different story at migrant shelters. The CDC is now bending the rules to allow these shelters to operate at full capacity. Stef W. Kight reports at Axios: CDC lets child migrant shelters fill to 100% despite COVID concern. The Centers for Disease Control is allowing shelters handling child migrants who cross the U.S.-Mexico border to expand to full capacity, abandoning a requirement that they stay near 50% to inhibit the spread of the coronavirus, Axios has learned.

Donald Trump is set to make his first trip to New York since leaving the White House amid an apparent rift with Jared Kushner who the ex-president is said to be angry with over his election loss. Trump is jetting back to the Big Apple this weekend after spending the last six weeks holed up at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, since he snubbed Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20. News of his visit comes amid reports of escalating tensions between Trump and his son-in-law and former White House Senior Adviser Jared in the days since they both left DC.

Venezuela said it will introduce new large-denomination bolivar notes as hyperinflation renders most bills worthless, forcing citizens to turn to the U.S. dollar for everyday transactions. The country’s central bank posted a statement on its website Friday saying it would begin circulating the new 200,000, 500,000 and 1,000,000 bills to “fulfill the current economy’s requirements” without providing further details.

WASHINGTON — My city has been occupied for more than eight weeks. Major thoroughfares blocked, thousands of armed soldiers, armored vehicles, seven-foot fencing, concertina wire.
What’s it all for? An invading army across the Potomac? Rising far-right militias, ready to strike at any moment?
Nope. It’s because when angry rioters and protesters attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, a Capitol Police force hobbled by its leadership’s poor training regimens, nearly non-existent fitness standards, and fecklessness in the face of crisis were incapable of protecting the building or even shutting the big doors on time. Get ready for the latest woke wave in education: comprehensive sex ed for kids as young as 5—thanks to a new bill in the state Senate. Legislation sponsored by state Sen. Samra G. Brouk, a freshman Democrat from Rochester, would tie New York’s health curriculum to standards written by a left-wing interest group that advocates “Sex Ed for Social Change”—and would make those lessons mandatory statewide. Under that group’s current standards, public and charter schools would have to teach 5-year-olds about “gender identity” and instruct 8-year-olds on hormone blockers to prevent puberty in transgender-identifying preteens.

California wants to ban boys and girls toy or clothes sections in large stores in order to enforce the gender-neutral presentation of products.
The bill would make it illegal for retailers to put up signs saying 'boys' and 'girls' over displays of toys, clothes or childcare items under the threat of a $1,000 fine. Meanwhile, stores located in the state that have a website would be required to use titles like 'kids', 'unisex', or 'gender-neutral' rather than dividing goods by sex.(Snip) Introducing the bill, Low said he was inspired by Target's decision in 2015 to abolish gendered children's sections.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald has criticized MSNBC host Joy Reid for what he calls 'conspiratorial derangement' after she claimed a senator was a Russian agent.
The journalist, part of a team that won a Pulitzer for reports about government surveillance programs based on leaks by Edward Snowden, slammed Reid on Friday for stating that Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, was acting on behalf of Russia.
Reid was mocking the senator who has come under fire himself for questioning accounts of what what occurred on January 6 at the Capitol, but Greenwald did not find Reid's description amusing.

The Senate voted 50-49 to pass Democrats’ $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package on Saturday, after a marathon session of voting on various amendments.
The bill was passed via budget reconciliation rules, which allow a simple majority to approve legislation in place of a filibuster-proof 60-vote threshold. The Biden administration had been pushing to pass the legislation before the week of March 14, when pandemic-related federal unemployment assistance is scheduled to expire.
The vote occurred entirely on partisan lines. Senator Dan Sullivan (R., Alaska) returned to his home state on Friday to attend the funeral of his father-in-law, meaning Vice President Kamala Harris did not need to cast a tie-breaking vote.

The White House is bracing for a worsening situation at the U.S.-Mexico border as President Biden faces criticism from both political parties over the influx of migrant children. Biden's No. 1 priority remains the coronavirus pandemic. But the flow of asylum-seekers threatens to overwhelm the country's immigration system after it was overhauled by former President Donald Trump in ways that irritated Democrats.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was dispatched this week to brief reporters at the White House, repeatedly blaming Trump's administration for the country's immigration predicament and warning it would "take time" to undo its "cruelty."

Though the populist tide seems to have ebbed, it will rise again, and soon. The problem that ignited populist sentiment in the first place, whether on the left or the right, remains: the country’s economic and financial system has failed much of the population and is rigged to the benefit of a government-business elite. Resistance to this inequity elevated Trump and pulled the Democratic Party to the left and will continue to roil American politics until things change.
The economy’s “rigging” has developed gradually over time and often from the best of intentions.

Supporters of former President Donald Trump marched down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan on Friday as they carried enormous banners that read 'Trump 2024'.
The event was billed as a 'Trump Save America Flag Unfurling' and featured all sort of Trump signage including one banner that depicted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a demon.
Towards the end of the event, the Trump marchers clashed with some angry New Yorkers and which the Right Side Broadcasting Network claimed was a group of 'Antifa' and Black Lives Matter activists, leading to the arrest of six people.
