The Democratically-controlled Senate spends thousands of collective hours conducting an impeachment trial against a president who is no longer president.
The acquittal is predetermined, as in the first impeachment effort a year ago—and known to be so to the Democratic prosecutors.
The constitutionally mandated presiding judge—the chief justice of the United States—refused to show up.
Chief Justice John Roberts apparently believes an impeachment trial of a private citizen is either a waste of time or unconstitutional—or both.
The Democratic House of Representatives is busy ferreting out purportedly extremist Republican members. For the first time in memory, one party now removes committee members of the other.

The Government is only as powerful as We the People tolerate. Where is the vaunted American Spirit? Are there no risk takers left? Hopefully we have not become a country of cowards who are fearful of each other and compliantly hide behind masks. Surely there are some left who will choose to stand taller and resist this onslaught on our very freedoms. Surely.........

I was going to reply that China is smiling, but I’d guess they are laughing. Rolling on the floor. They were given four years of Christmas in November, unwrapped on January 20. They have to be ecstatic. And the rest of the world? Shaking their heads at how easy it was to weaken the upstart country that has been so painfully (to them) successful.
No one needs to attack us. It is being done by puppet Biden and those who are pulling his strings and making his mouth move...

It's almost like there is a civil war going on within Congress. Democrats vs. Republicans. Only the Republicans are too dim to realize that the war is going on and they are going to be decimated if they do not start fighting back!

Looking from when the US Constitution was ratified in 1788, 233 years was not a bad run. Sorry to see it end.

Importantly, Justice Roberts could have ended this instantly if he'd explained his position re: constitutionality - presuming that was the reason for his refusal.

Biden and the dems are busying themselves with stealing America's optimism and industriousness which had been restored throught Pres. Trump's years in office. During just the few weeks Biden has been in office he has managed to pull the rug out from under the very lives of many American citizens while rolling out the red carpet to unvetted illegal aliens. Naturally China is on the move during this weak Presidency. ...Well, maybe not, ''weak,'' but rather compliant to the leftist tyrants. How we miss Pres. Trump's leadership!

The part about Iran scares me the most. Xiden will see to it that the mullahs get their nukes and they are insane enough to use them. They will hit Israel first and then us. And Xiden will do nothing in retaliation. Unlike President Trump who would have turned them into a glass parking lot.

VDH, America isn't "asleep." It's more like we're handcuffed, gagged, and have a gun pointed at our head.

VDH, like many of us, knows what needs to be done and the "America sleeps" isn't directed at RINOs in Congress or otherwise feckless politicians of any stripe. I believe he's talking to We the People or at least that segment of the people who ought to know what WTP means and the duties therein. #2 asks valid questions that will studiously be avoided because while everyone with a pulse knows our country is slipping, they cannot process the need for the people to correct the mistakes we've been making for decades. Instead, we've treated politics like a sporting event and yet we still put the fate of our nation in the hands of career politicians whose every act is intended to preserve their place among the ruling political elite. Trump was an exception but the people didn't have his back where and when it mattered most.

The greatest failures in American politics and government occurred from 1988 through 2016, from Bush41 through Obama, when the "leaders" of the United States failed to form a new consensus core of American politics in our national interest after the collapse of the Soviet Union and end of the Cold War. They instead moved the nation into increasing degrees of hedonism and mislabeled that "freedom". When we could withdraw from decades of European occupation, er, defense of the Free World, we went looking for trouble, finding it from Kuwait to Iraq, using Saudi bases which netted us 9/11. US troops restoring a monarchy...imagine that. And that led to more decades of "nation building", occupation and unrest throughout a region.
We are re-living the 1930s, with the rise of totalitarianism and the division of the West, the measured and generally ineffective response of conservatives both economically and politically. The game is a bit more complex, and its tentacles global. In essence it is the same game. Contemporary technology allows a tyranny like the world has never seen. And it's just getting started.

#11, if that happens, and I am not hoping for it, we may be lucky and they may wipe out NYC and DC.....and thereby massively improve the country, in my not so humble opinion.
It would at least not do serious harm to the USA in the long term.

Since the impeachment is not Constitutional, President Trump (no matter the verdict) could run for office again.
