Minneapolis city officials convened during a Zoom call Monday morning to go over public safety preparations for the Derek Chauvin trial, which is set to begin next week.
During the meeting, it was announced that the city will be dropping its plan to pay social media influencers for sharing city-approved messages during the trial. (snip) "While I believe in and support the intention of this recommendation, we have seen that the impact has caused harm in our communities. And for that, I am sorry."
City Coordinator Mark Ruff added, "When we make a mistake, we acknowledge that and do better."

Red Wing Chief of Police Roger Pohlman's employment was terminated by the Red Wing City Council Friday night.
According to the letter of termination sent to Chief Pohlman, he was terminated for having "not met the Council's performance expectations." The letter then goes on to list a number of incidences where Pohlman did not meet expectations. (snip) A citizen-led rebuke of the suspension and subsequent termination of Pohlman claimed that the actions taken were under the "guise of 'social justice'," and that the city council's decision was "unfounded, outrageous and politically motivated."

Tommie East Hall, at the University of St. Thomas, is probably unlike any other student housing you've ever seen.
It's a 'smart building,' with COVID-precautions and a green zone, all rolled into one.
"Their number one goal was the embracement of sustainability," says Eric Engh, Senior Vice President of Ryan Companies. "This will be a great example to see how good can you be. So it'll be fun to watch." (snip) "It's super-exciting," says Kaylen DeBois, a freshman who lives there. "I've always cared about the environment, I've always tried to be as sustainable as possible."

Avivo Village consists of 100 individual, climate-controlled and secure pods, which will provide Minnesotans experiencing homelessness real solutions to permanent housing.
Emily Bastian, vice president of Avivo, walks through the rows of multi-colored homes lining the inside of a warehouse on Washington Avenue in the North Loop.
“This is very exciting. It’s a new model, people have not done this before,” Bastian said. “Everyone deserves housing irregardless of who they are or choices that they make.”

The owners of a Minneapolis restaurant that was destroyed in the riots after George Floyd's death filed a lawsuit against the city and Mayor Jacob Frey.
In the lawsuit, filed in Hennepin County District Court on Monday, Kacey White and Charles Stotts, owners of Town Talk Diner & Gastropub, say the delay in response to the riots by the city and Frey allowed for more destruction and cost them their restaurant.
"Mayor Frey and the City's failure to control the significant (yet manageable) number of malefactors on Lake Street resulted in his failure to protect Town Talk," the lawsuit states, in part.

It took just two days for a split-level house near Stacy to sell this month. Put on the market on a Friday for $284,900, it was shown 18 times and drew five offers by that Sunday, all above asking price.
Realtor Hyounsoo Lathrop wasn't surprised.
"With COVID, people want to be away from the cities and have some space," she said. "Out here you get top dollar." (snip) With rising crime in Minneapolis and St. Paul and many of the amenities that once drew buyers and renters to those downtowns still shuttered, a new level of uncertainty has emerged about what urban life will look like.

Mike Lindell is discovering the downside of becoming known as a right-wing crank.
Or so the My Pillow chief executive claims. He says that in recent days, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl's and Wayfair have dropped his product.
Lindell is convinced their decisions are related to his continued support for Donald Trump's claims of a rigged election, telling Yahoo Finance that the retailers were pressured by “left-wing groups that attack with bots and trolls."

Many Americans will remember President Donald Trump’s presidency as a four-yearlong storm of tweets, rallies and on-air rants that ended in a mob riot and historic second impeachment. But there was more to the Trump presidency than attention-hogging political drama and conflict; often unnoticed, Trump and his administration actually did succeed in changing some of the ways Washington works.
From imposing a ban on Chinese-made drones to rolling back rules on sexual harassment, from cracking down on robocalls to letting states legalize marijuana, Trump changed some key areas of federal policy in ways that may have lasting impact well after he’s gone.
