It is amazing how many people seem to have discovered last Wednesday that riots are wrong -- when many of those same people apparently had not noticed that when riots went on, for weeks or even months, in various cities across the country last year.
For too many people, especially in the media, what is right and wrong, true or false, depends on who it helps or hurts politically. Too many media people who are supposed to be reporters act as if they are combatants in political wars.

as usual, every word written or spoken by Dr. Sowell is worth listening to and reading. yes, truth is irrelevant especially in any communist dominated society where there is not truth, only information meted out by the power masters.

Sowell has been one of my favorite commentators since the 1970s or so when I first found a commentary in a Jacksonville Fla newspaper which was clearly the product of a brilliant man. I checked who this brilliant author was, and it was some guy named Thomas Sowell, who I had never heard of. I have read Sowell's "Basic Economics" book, and highly recommend it, even if you imagine that you fully understand economics and the reasons that free markets are the only good economic system. Walter Williams is another favorite to read. He's another brilliant economics teacher. Sadly, Dr. Williams has left this world very recently, and we are the poorer for that loss.
I guess this proves that all conservatives are racists.

Most Americans are complacent, apathetic and ignorant. They have not been affected by the protests and violence which has been isolated to a few blocks within just a few inner ciities where socialism has been historically tolerated. Notice that it has not expanded into to less socialist areas or to the suburbs where it wouldl be quickly extinguished. Americans are tolerant up until their immediate interests are at risk.

Years ago, I had business in the building that happened to house the offices of the campus newspaper. I stopped in to point out a serious and blatant factual error (about Nixon's withdrawals from Viet Nam being a sham) that they reprinted from a far left "news service".
I was straightened out with a speech about how the purpose of a newspaper is to "motivate the masses" and the facts of any individual story don't matter so long as the story supports the "bigger truth" that Nixon is evil.
Subsequently, I have seen a number of these "journalists" by-lines on the CBC and in Canada's large newspapers (Toronto Star). So the answer I got to the question posed by the headline is "Of course the truth doesn't matter"

Apparently Sowell hasn't come across refrigerated ice rinks in warm climates. I wonder whether he understands that ice sports, from hockey to figure skating, are regular features in warm weather states. The NHL has three California teams, two in Florida, others in Arizona, Texas, Georgia and Nevada. It appears they have sufficient fans to support their enterprise. And four of the most recent six women winning national figure skating championships are from California.
The "obvious" isn't always so.

#5, while ice skating rinks do exist in warmer climes, those from colder climes still get more exposure to ice skating because in colder climes one does not need an ice rink, which costs a large amount of money to build and maintain, in order to ice skate.

Children in the United States have been taught for decades that there is no such thing as objective truth.

God's truth is ALWAYS relevant, and as society continues to fall apart around us, it will eventually become the only truth worth clinging to.

#5, if Miami, Phoenix or Dallas has more than 1% of the serious amateur ice hockey players that Calgary, or some other large Canadian city, I'd be very, very surprised.
Sure, it's possible to have a skating rink in any climate....but the interest in playing ice hockey in southern climes is a tiny fraction of that in northern climes. Now many recreational curling players do you think there are in say, KC, or San Diego, or Memphis?
Sowell is right, as usual.

I love Sowell’s comment about “privilege” never being referred to as “achievement”. I’m going to use that myself if anyone tries to point out my “privilege”.
