Crime, taxes, disease, and an anti-science approach to social distancing have chased a number of big retailers and restaurateurs out of New York forever, reports the far-left New York Times.
“In the heart of Manhattan, national chains including J.C. Penney, Kate Spade, Subway and Le Pain Quotidien have shuttered branches for good,” per the Times, which adds other big box retailers, like Victoria’s Secret and the Gap, have chosen to reopen in other states while their Manhattan locations remain shuttered.
On top of that, Victoria’s Secret, which had been paying $937,000 a month in rent, is no longer paying that rent.

JC Penney is going out of business anyway, but there was a JC Penney in the heart of Manhattan? I guess the virus exposes whether over-priced restaurants and stores are "vital" businesses. These leftist crooks should be ashamed of themselves for what they're doing to their cities and states; but they're not ashamed at all.

Dr Fauci and Birx destroyed the retail industry, including clothing stores, restaurants, gyms, hair and nail salons, sports and entertainment, hotel and motel, airline, car rental, local and state governments, the oil and gas industry, churches, the education system, hospital industry, medical and dental practices, optometrists, nursing homes, democracy, and the constitution. And accomplished in only a few months, although they are keeping the ruin going, doubling down on failure, more failure recommended. There have been no positives from any of these policies, as Dr Fauci and Birx themselves admit they cannot stop the virus. The Democrats are a criminal organization and their policies insane.

The narrative and facts of the article are must read material. But in the end, (remembering today’s Dims are not your parents’ Dims): “Democrats eventually destroy everything.”

"The idea was that branding and locations were important, but the expense of being in this city has overtaken the marketing group that says you have to be there."
In short, it is a financial decision. Dems think they can bleed businesses to any level they want. Business can tolerate a certain level of this but beyond a certain point, the situation becomes untenable. High rent, high labor, high levels of bureaucracy, and high taxes are all creations of liberal government and it is destroying dem controlled cities and states. Further, who wants to go to a city in panic where everyone is sick or dying, or at least seems to be. Such images are hard to erase.
I agree about the government choices. Who keeps electing, over and over, the same people that have failed to solve the problems in the first place. People not in the majority have no choice but to flee such insanity. The problem for dem controlled cities is that there there are so many other choices about where to live. For some New Yorkers, the choice becomes, anywhere but here.

The massive economic damage going on in NYC is being massively downplayed and under reported. It's HUGE. There is no apparent push back from NYC residents. They appear to be asleep and unknowing. If they don't wake up SOON it's going to take many years before NYC recovers, assuming that it will ever recover. The cumulative devaluing of real property is not being reported. It must be in the Billions and is growing. We have not seen anything yet. When the truth becomes generally apparent it's going to be asked: How did this happen under our noses?

Add to all of the above the fact that it seems those who work in NY are able to now work remotely. I only see a few of those who work for FOX back in Studio. Most are in their Apartments or in The Hamptons. People are finding out there is life out of NYC and it's pretty darn nice. A home, yard, neighbors you actually know, a yard for your dog (so you don't need a "Dog Walker" and you can get around in a Car you have in your very own garage. Taxes are lower and the air is Clean. What's not to like! I think NY has changed forever! Who wants to ride that nasty, crowded Subway when you can walk to the studio in your home or Basement! Why not keep more of your paycheck, instead of it going to small apartments and NY taxes! Why not BBQ dinner on your backyard patio instead of going to an overpriced Restaurant and why not raise your children where they can actually go outside to play! I don't see any negatives in moving out of NYC and a lot of great positives!

How did it happen, #8? Simple answer which will make all of the NYC lefties’ heads explode...
It happened because the only thing they cared about was getting Trump. NOTHING else mattered, so they ignored what was all around them.

Even if there was another Giuliani out there with the talent to turn things around it would be impossible to do. The businesses leaving are smart enough to know no matter how good a mayor they may get, the next one will probably be another DeBlasio. It is not worth the effort to rebuild for only a short time of peace. I will never set foot in New York City. Can we move the Statue of Liberty to Texas? Democrats destroy everything.

How could people vote for such destructive politicians and policies? For the poor: the promise of a bowl of potage. For the middle class: the promise of absolution from evil thoughts about inclusion and the brotherhood of man. For the wealthy: a place in a criminal syndicate where you may have to surrender your morals but at least you stand a chance of not having your life ruined - unless you become a liability to the mob. The same people will soon run things wherever NYC residents go en masse because the mob follows the easy marks. Illegal immigration helps the mob immensely.

This is what the Democrats are all about. In the name of equality and justice they will destroy business and jobs, and bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator which will be some slug with no drive, no intelligence, and a loudmouth demanding the government take care of their sorry rear end. This is where the Democratic party is heading. its out there for everyone to see. We see this happening. We have all been warned. Don't ignore it. Vote as if your life depends on it come November. Elections have consequences.

There definitely are ways to save and improve the situation in NY. But, they will never happen. NY has been a one party town for decades. Giuliani's election was the last Republican. Mike Bloomberg was NEVER a Republican, he just used the party line to get elected and became an independent at his first chance. Lying weasel. Now NY is a one party town because COWARDLY AND INCOMPETENT REPUBLICANS, ceded the City to the Democrats. There are many times that Republicans don't run candidates for citywide position like Comptroller and Public Advocate. Many city council races go totally unopposed. When we talk about Rhino Republicans on the fed level, they are no match for New York's Republican establishment.
The NY Republican party should be having press conferences everyday lambasting Benito Cuomo over the nursing home deaths, his insane continued lockdowns and his shredding of the Constitution. They should be touting ways to bring back the city and state, like recommending a moratorium on regulations and slashing taxes. Make NYC one big economic recovery zone, put the Welcome to NY sign out, and let businesses have at it. Instead, businesses are fleeing because no one has their backs. And all Benito Cuomo can do is offer to make them dinner. I'll bet his meatballs stink!
But, NY Republicans are totally incapable of that kind of action. Instead, like Venezuela ruled by a dictator, NY will continue its rapid descent into Hell. Thank you Democrats AND Republicans.

What a great article; first time the truth was told where it is easily understood instead of polit-speak. Call the Dutch and see if they want their island back. It is a since that the Native Americans do not need the pain. (My True Confession: I believed the Hollywood version of NYC, and found it just exactly like that in my one and only trip there in 1963.)

It's not just NYC - not that I really care all that much about NYC. As poster #4 says, Drs. foci and Birx have destroyed so much of this country, both big and small. I just wish Pres Trump would just shove those two into the background and start taking advice from non-bureaucratic medical experts. And stop shouting the millions of lives saved. The number son positive and dead from COVID is so politicized that I doubt any nu,bars anyone provides. Now with respect to NCY - it's also small towns that are hurting, too.

I wonder where the marketing group will relocate to? They are losing the business' that are leaving or closing for good, and their employees probably desire better digs now too.

It is funny how people who think alike sometimes meet.
I was in a rural Nevada post office. Often people leave newspapers or books there for others (like a free lending library). I was looking at books. A man came in and took the copy of the local newspaper. I mentioned that there was often there the New York Times. He remarked that he had seen it there but was really not interested in what happens in New York City. And, y'know what? I totally agree - because New York is really NOT the naval of the universe.

#8 Boiling the frog, my friend. Boiling the frog. Just a little more heat can be tolerated, so long as it's below the cost of leaving and relocating. Then next time, just a little more heat, and again, so long as it's less than the cost of relocating, it's tolerated. And again. And again. Until there's either no more money left (bankruptcy), or else an external shock increases the cost above the amount leaving would require.
A related factor is of course the prestige of being on 5th Avenue or at least in the Big Apple. That acts as a lure to remain in NYC when economic reality would dictate relocating. But everything has its price, and the Dynamiting Duo have found a way to make leaving New York more prestigious than staying.

NY is moving ever closer to the situation that was once fantasy entertainment in "Escape from New York".
I gave up on NYC long ago, don't intend to ever go there again, with the possible exception of there being some extremely unlikely event which allows me to be legally armed when I go there. Even then, there is nothing there that I want or want to see.

I've always thought NYC was a great place to shop but a bad place to buy, because of the prices (unless you're shopping at a truly unique store with truly unique goods). NYC will be OK again, if (and only if) the residents come to their senses and elect a good mayor. Now they have the worst mayor in the country (with heavy competition from Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and Minneapolis). I wish them well in bringing NYC back. If, however, they persist in electing imbeciles like deBlasio, then they can descend to the nether regions.
