The American Academy of Pediatrics has released a needed opinion that is strongly in favor of getting children back to school this fall. It’s just what the nation needs right now in times that seem anything but normal.
“The AAP,” the group’s statement reads, “strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.“
“Schools are fundamental to child and adolescent development and well-being,” AAP’s statement points out. They “provide our children and adolescents with academic instruction, social and emotional skills, safety, reliable nutrition, physical/speech and mental health therapy, and opportunities for physical activity, among other benefits.”

Not government school. Forget that. Keeping kids out of government schools is the best thing you can do for them.

If you love your children keep them out of government run schools. All they are doing is brainwashing your children in Marxist Communism the hallmark of the democrat party. Their new world order which is One World Marxist Communism Globalist government of Lucifer's pure evil just as God foretells us in His Holy Bible.

There is no one safer than children in this mess. The older teachers need to evaluate their risk level and decide whether to return. Perhaps they can be offered early retirement options. But if they have the passion for teaching, they should sign and waiver and not be prevented from working.
Parents have got to get back to work and anything less than a regular school schedule will not work for them.

Not all public schools are indoctrination centers. Some are extremely good but they are usually in the suburban and rural settings. Unfortunately, many teachers coming right of college are liberal, however, the School Board must make it clear that politics have no part in education. The students should never know if their teacher is a democrat or republican. They are there to teach and if they cannot do it without showing a political bias, they need to go. Parents, this is where you come in. You must advocate for a politically free environment for your children. You have to get involved.
The best thing for the children is to start School back in the fall as usual. Kids need structure and familiarity. Unfortunately, the libs will call for a complete shutdown if anyone sneezes, but ignore them. Advocate for a normal school year, send your kids and keep an eye on what they are being taught. As we have witnessed in these past few months, liberal indoctrination has done more harm to our youth than this virus ever could. Oh, that we could quarantine liberal indoctrination!

I read the original APA policy memo. Yes, they urge getting kids back to school, but the majority of it describes a laundry list of precautions that you can get from any governors executive orders and his medical advisor. And I agree with #6. If someone sneezes it will be like a nuclear bomb went off. OK everyone, go home and come back in two weeks. And, I cannot teach effectively wearing a mask; sorry. As to political indoctrination, I don't start these discussions but on rare occasions my students blurt out the latest leftist platitudes and I shut them down immediately. They start it, but I end it.

I've been an advocate of private, charter or home schooling for years. My children, now in their early 50's were probably the last generation to get a decent education in our public schools. Though not as good as mine. They say if you went to high school in the 1950's or early 60's, it's the equivalent of a college degree today. My granddaughter graduated a few weeks ago from a small charter high school with 79 in her graduating class. I'm happy for her to be finished with that part of her education. Today, schools are run by unions, local politicians and many angry liberals who call themselves teachers.
Since history is not taught in our schools, for years I've been collecting well written history books to give to my grandchildren to pass down to their children.

The Fourth of July celebrations set an example that people should wake up and understand. When the government fails to serve the people, then the people fulfill the service. If government schools do not open, then people will fill the void to educate the children - without the public school's requisite indoctrination. The best thing that can happen is for the public school system to collapse!

Yes, by all means, fire up the public education system before people catch on that it is a worthless, expensive, mind-numbing form of babysitting. The good thing about it is it will get most of the young protesters up to age eighteen off the streets. Most of the schools in my area have continued the three "free" meals a day through the pandemic so the poor, lazy or drug-addled parents will not be affected. Imagine what private schools could do it they were paid 16K per year per student. When people talk about "school choice" the choice of not paying for public school is never included because it's ten times harder to stop a government program than it is to start one.

Find some church school or private school which still teaches American history and civics plus actual math and science. Keep kids out of government schools.

It is the responsibility of parents to ensure all the things are present in a child's life that was stated by the doctors. It is not a schools or government responsibility to raise your child. I remember in the '50s we heard the Russians were putting children in schools and not allowing parents to control any part of child's life. American thought that was appalling. Now they think it is the greatest thing ever.

Question....Should the students return to schools which refuse to teach the basics, including factual American history, or will the same old leftist indoctrination be awaiting them, taught by radicalized teachers who propagandize their lefty politics? How can the propaganda be removed by September?

Get them back in School. Check what they are teaching them first. Don't be the parent seeing their child in NYC on a FaceBook posting being asked if you know this individual call the Police. The mom turned her own daughter in for taking a baseball bat and breaking windows out of the Stores in NYC. Home School or send them to a private or religious school. If you are paying the bill you should have some say in where they are going to college. Just because it it is a religious college does not mean they are doing a good job. Good example is Duke - I would not send my kids there. Liberty and Hillsdale College come to mind there are others.
