Airlines are always looking to do less … for more.
After the 9-11 attacks in the U.S. in 2001, airlines in America did away with most meal services (and many started charging you $50 for an extra bag — that’ll teach those terrorists!).
Now, with COVID-19 emerging as a new threat in the states, airlines have decided to stop in-flight sales of alcohol on many flights (‘cuz, you know, the coronavirus lives on those little bottles).
“Because COVID-19 can spread through surface contact, airlines have placed an emphasis on reducing ‘touchpoints’ between fliers and airline staff as much as possible. And beverage service is a major source of those touchpoints,”

Not using alcohol, it doesn't affect me, but airlines, taking advantage again for BS reasons.

Why not ban carry-ons! Passengers can deplane faster and efficiently during an emergency.

I no longer fly for a number of reasons but sometimes alcohol is the only thing that can get some passengers through one of their miserable flights.

Commercial aicraft have the capability of cabin flow-through air ventilation. For improved fuel mileage most airlines close that off and recirculate cabin air.
To really help keen Covid-19 down, they should re-open flow-through for fresh air.

Does that hold true for business and first class passengers? Or do they still get to booze it up? People will just bring their own; along with snacks meals and their support animals.🦨🦇🐎 Toilet paper... will there be toilet paper??

It is unlikely I will ever set foot on a commercial airline again. I have made a trip to Florida every year for the past 20 years to play a little golf. Last year some of us decided to drive rather than fly. Flying, the round trip tickets rum around $400, Rental car around $400 for four days. It takes an hour to get to the airport, an hour and 1/2 to get off the ground, an hour and 1/2 to get to Atlanta, another hour or three to get your connecting flight, an hour to your destination, an hour to pick up your rental and luggage (if it shows up).
It takes 13 hours to drive the trip. Your only expense is gasoline and any meals along the way, the ride is more comfortable, you can stop anytime you want to stretch you legs and save a ton of money and don't have to put up with crappy service. On the road is the way to go! So, bye, bye airlines!

I would think they would be missing out on some profit at a time when profit is not occuring. Surely someone with the airlines can figure this out. Serve a beer in a plastic bag with a cup at the bottom of the can and return the empties in the same plastic zip lock bag, attendant wears rubber gloves. Jack the price another dollar and they make even more money.

only way to fly is with plenty of adult beverages .Sooo have the booze in the lounge pre boarding .If you have enough the plane can shoe horn even more people into their tin tube .and you won’t even know it ..

If they were really serious about COVID they would keep the booze and take out every other row of seats plus all middle seats.

Hooray for poster 10. Restaurants must alternate seating and it's costing them revenue. The airlines should not book the middle seats. After all, I keep hearing on TV that 'We're All In This Together'

Big deal. Don't want to fly, don't. Don't want to fly without alcohol, don't. Don't want to pay the "high" fare, don't. Those are all legit choices.
I do fly. I find it generally convenient - certainly better than driving hundreds/thousands of miles, necessary to visit overseas. The airlines have become the Greyhound of the sky because that's what customers demanded after deregulation. Cheap fares built Southwest. I don't recall getting meal service on domestic airlines at the time of 9/11, having long before been consigned to history. And the reason was people complained about their quality. Jokes about them abounded. Don't like them? Don't serve them. Here's some pretzels.

Seriously, are the airlines safe or not? If so, why are so many states having travel restrictions?
Its obvious the airlines are having major problems right now. Last time I checked, my destination is down to one flight a day. The airlines also had major problems before this. Are they even profitable?

The planes are flying 40% full. Many flights have been eliminated. Many people will elect to drive for 500 mile type journeys. More companies are electing skype to flying, and working from home. The airlines have federal subsidy through October. After that, it looks like the airlines should be prepared for getting a lot smaller, based on reduced demand, and inability to book full flights. Flying is going to get a lot more expensive with inability to book full flights. Buffett saw the handwriting on the wall, and sold all his investments in airlines. I wonder how many passengers want to watch other passengers forcefully dragged off United Airlines. I think I will pass on flying.

I have always wondered if some sort of luxury bus service could be made available for those with the xtra money but not enough to fly private. A limited number of seats and decent toilets and some perks. A 500-mile trip could be made quite comfortable.
#7 also makes a good point. I think you will see a resurgence of road trips by a lot of people.

Since real paying passengers numbers have declined, airlines must cut costs. The food and snacks were already from the bottom of the barrel, might as well not serve booze, either. Besides, the filthy ice would have made you sick anyway. (That's if you could have fit into the 9 inch seats.)

RE #7:
I visited my sister in VT last fall. She lives around 1000 miles from me, but I chose to drive for two days rather than fly. It was an easy trip, since with cruise control now iin most cars, the vehicle does 90% of the work. I was able to take my large suitcase, a cooler with drinks, my own pillow, and then bring back gifts and purchases without worrying about them being broken or "mislocated" by the airlines. Fuel costs weren't bad and with the hotel costs, I came out pretty well even, if not a little ahead of what a flight would have cost. And since I am a Fluffy-American, I didn't have to worry about squeezing into overly narrow seats or asking for an extender. I will always choose to drive over flying, unless I am travelling overseas. It's an easy choice for me.
