Ronald Reagan famously declared that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Those words resonate with many during a time when some governments are aggressively enforcing efforts that seek to prevent society from re-opening. Polling I conducted this past weekend found that 52 percent of voters share Reagan's view of how terrifying government "help" can be. Only 35 percent disagree.
Initially, of course, there was strong support for the lockdowns. But a backlash is brewing.

So people all across the land are figuring out that they don't like being under house arrest, huh? Well, who'd a thunk it!

Don’t diss on missed hair appointment! Those stylists work straight commissions in many small businesses across the country! Women, and more men too- consider good hair an essential activity! Legal tattoo parlor, may not be your thing- but again a small business. Both of these businesses are highly regulated- and have safety measures built in.. Make America Open for Business Again!

Yes, well free citizens tend to get irritated by governments that are very lax and accommodating with criminals but very strict and punitive with law-abiding citizens. Not irritated enough yet for my taste.

I know some people with delicate medical conditions who are frightened at the prospect of businesses opening and people going outside. I tell them fine, you do not have to go outside but you will have a choice to do so. The rest of us who are healthy and straining at the leash want that choice too and many of us have already made it. Once again, the potential harm to less than one percent of the US population does not justify any sort of control or lockdown. If it comes to a showdown, things will get ugly.

The popularity of democrats seems to be directly related to the popularity of lockdowns. Many people who might have voted democrat are having their eyes opened. President Trump's approval rating has increased!

You can only stay scared for so long, then you get mad. Then you get mean. The length of time it takes differs for everyone, but the result is the same. Ralphie beats up the bully. The bullies better watch out. Some of the world's most brutal violence came from people who were tired of being scared.

Well duh. People can afford to be locked down for a couple weeks or maybe even a month. But two months? Time's up. Its gone on long enough, and its time to reopen. The lockdown, and social distancing were never sustainable. The economic impact was too great.

Over 20 million Americans are out of work because governors and mayors deemed their jobs as "non essential".

#3 - You apparently missed my point. Perhaps I need explain. I have long advocated in this salon the continued operation of business concerns, espousing the basic opinion that business owners and customers were best at gauging the risk and response to this "crisis". Business is a mutual transaction. I have also oft mentioned from the beginning that truly small business and employees would suffer, many ultimately fatally in a business sense, from the lack of resources and cashflow caused by these orders.
My point above was that 1) it was the customers who were polled, and 2) after a long period of "self-quarantine" with continued business closedowns, all in compliance with government orders, the public opinion tide has turned in favor of re-opening.
As Rasmussen reports, "Initially, of course, there was strong support for the lockdowns." I suggested the denial of these personal services were perhaps irritants that caused the shift in the polls. Appears I may have been correct. And I hope hairdressers and tattoo artists thrive as never before.
I may even now get my hair professionally cut...all three of them.

I have never been locked down. The grocery stores and drug stores are open. I have been to the home stores and hardware stores to buy lumber, paint, nails, etc to do some home repairs. I go to the range, I go to Walmart for oil to change it in the cars and tractors. I got some steel from my steel supplier for a machining project, they had their showroom closed, I called in the order, they delivered it to the door - "take out" steel. I have had a annual blood test, and an eye doc appointment, and another annual checkup. My wife had her eyes checked, got a glasses update.
Our restaurants were closed, and barbershops, for us, that was pretty much it. I need a haircut and some restaurants are open, sort-kinda, and we have been out to dinner several times.
I want my restaurants back, and I need a haircut. I have several friends who are too frightened to go to the restaurants yet.

"The lockdown crowd will invoke a countervailing principle: even people who believe in freedom will concede that you do not have the right to endanger others."
What is "endangerment"?
Clearly things like reckless driving.
Reckless handling of firearms.
Mishandling food.
Things everyone can agree on.
But, now the neighbors are beginning to declare that
merely breathing in their presence is "endangerment".
Do you want to live in their world?
