Cancel Culture Affects NASCAR

One NASCAR driver has had his career sidetracked because he said one forbidden word during a video game competition with other professional drivers. It seems that when one says certain words, they are given the career death penalty and never forgiven – while some well-connected people don’t get punished at all.
Sometimes the punishment is worse than the crime.
Kyle Larson was one of the hottest drivers in the NASCAR circuit. On Easter Sunday, he was participating in an online racing event that has proven popular with NASCAR and other professional racers who can’t race on real tracks thanks to the coronavirus.

Then NASCAR should die along with his career. This organization parades the flag as if it were born with one up its arse. But this 'cancel' behavior is simply un-american and unlike his foolish use of the n-word is unforgivable.

The ‘N’ word? ‘N’ASCAR?

Would the word he used happen to be the same word that black rappers and a lot of black citizens use? I don't use and don't really care for the word, but I'm almost to the point of applying it to most democrat members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Kyle...just cut a $-million check to Rev. Jessie, Rev. Al and Maxine and you're all good.

Yet, if I used that particular word here on Lucianne, I'd be censured. So, we live in "that" same environment here as well...

You do not insult the Sacred Ones but they can call you Cracker, Whitey and Polar Bear all day long. It's stupid but we have allowed ourselves to be put into this children-on-the-playground position. That said, if you are in a public position, you never say to one person what you wouldn't say to a whole audience. Technology is unforgiving. The fault is not with NASCAR on this one, it is with the corporate sponsors that have drunk the kool aid and built the pedestals for their Sacred Ones. Equality is apparently not possible, one side or the other must be on top and they are getting their turn on the throne.
Democrats of course get a special pass.

I wonder why it's permissible, to the cancel culture, to call me honkey, cracker, redneck, whitey, or any of the other slurs used by the left and some minorities? They don't even have to apologize.
I know, I know. No one can be racist other than white Republicans.
The problem, for them, is that I don't care. I live my life in happiness while they live a life of unhappiness and hatred. They destroy their own lives.

NASCAR could reinstate him but if the sponsors won't touch him, neither will the race teams. I'm somewhat hopeful that once some time passes he'll be able to restart his career but as long as the cancel culture continues, he'll be done with racing for a living. It's sad and stupid, especially when you consider the athletes who have said or done things much worse than this, and who have suffered little or no consequences.

First his sponsors dropped him, then his car owner, and then NASCAR itself. All over one word. No way the punishment fit the crime. I truly hope he gets back in racing.

Sports is entertainment, supported by lots of money paid by lots of sponsors for positive exposure and publicity. Larson blew his career up himself. You take the money, which is substantial, and you take the responsibility when your actions don't comport with what sponsors pay for...and they're not paying for controversy or potential boycott campaigns, which we've seen before.
Good luck on the bullrings, kid. Behave yourself and you may get a second shot.
BTW: NASCAR isn't his employer and did not fire him. As the article notes: "Chip Ganassi Racing, Chevrolet, Credit One bank and McDonalds all terminated their relationship with Larson."

Reminds me of a scene in a Jackie Chan movie. So this guy gets his racing career terminated for saying what every black "comedian" I've heard in the last ten years has been saying for the last ten tears.
Kyle, if I was rich enough to own a race car I'd be calling. Unless they're ready to cancel Mark Twain.

Larson should have said "I've been listening to too much music where that word is thrown around constantly and I'd lost perspective on it's hurtful nature, so many use it casually. So sorry."

Not a word I have said more than a few times in my entire life, although I was raised around some who used it freely. Even in the 50s and 60s south, I never liked or used that word, lost respect for those who did.
Stupid as hell to say it EVER.

A huge problem for racing drivers is getting noticed and getting a solid sponsor. There are more folks who can drive really fast and well than there are seats in race cars so you have to beat out a lot of other talent to get noticed. Noticed in a bad way isn't good.
I had a driving instructor who won several races in the Indy Lights series, including at Indianapolis Speedway, in cars that are just a half a tick down from the fastest cars that run in the USA....and just didn't make the right sponsorship connection. Fast enough but not lucky enough, so now he's teaching old guys like me how to run faster on the race track.
Brutal business, driving racing cars, a slight misstep in PR and you are toast.

Stop it... stop it... just stop it! Red or yellow, black or white... they are precious in his sight - just stop saying that word - come on, every single one of us are better than that. Quit arguing about your rights - try a little kindness and quit saying that word! And, I can think of at least a dozen more that ought to leave the vocabulary of every American - please, just stop saying it! The world would be a better place without that horrid expression, along with many other racial put downs... just stop it!
