Democrat Kweisi Mfume easily won a special election Tuesday to finish the term of the late Elijah Cummings, retaking a Maryland congressional seat he held for five terms before leaving to lead the NAACP.
Mfume defeated Republican Kimberly Klacik in the heavily Democratic 7th Congressional District, capping a race dramatically reshaped by the coronavirus. After winning what was largely a mail-in election, Mfume told supporters many people are "struggling at this hour to fight off the terrible disease of the coronavirus."

Well, there’s a solution! The problem is 10% candidates and 90% voters!

Great. Another one. This one is named Queasy. Is he one of the fake muzzies who is really named Elroy Washington Jones, or the real kind that blow themselves up?

Mfume, born Frizzell Gerald Gray, is the exemplar of redemption, sort of. He made a trip to Africa, came back, wanted an African name, made one up. He is not a muslim.
he is a bright guy, one of the more impressive ones in the Congressional Black Caucus, in spite of leaving a slew of illegitimate children in his wake, He dropped out of high school to support his mother and siblings who were, abandoned by his father. He acquired a modest criminal record, earned a GED, graduated from Morgan state, Magna Cum Laude.
I would swap him out for any other member of the Congressional Black caucus. From an intelligence standpoint, he dwarfs the other members. He also has the capacity to be reasonable.
The voters of that congressional district could have done much worse, as they usually do. I find his election to be a positive.

If Kweisi wasn't around in the 90s we wouldn't have had the B-2 bomber. You read that right. The AF didn't want it, no one wanted to spend the money on it, but he made an impassioned plea on the floor and bingo they started to develop and build it. I'm not AF but it seems to me it's come in pretty handy.

Sad for Kimberly. She was a fish swimming upstream in Baltimore. But she is a fighter and does not give up. With Mfume it’s more of the same. I feel so sorry for the residents of that district. Of course it was gerrymandered to include white democrats, too. Yuck.

Remember a year or so ago all those people in the Baltimore ghettos complaining of their plight? It must not really be that bad if they voted in a duplicate of Cummings. Elections have consequences. Now, shut up and enjoy the s@ck.

I thought is was another one of those crazy made up African holidays like Kwanzza around Christmas. Now I remember Frizzell who changed his name to sound Muslim. Typical but not surprised.

Mfume is only re-taking what was previously his. Cummings kept his seat warm for 23 years while his predecessor Mfume forged ahead looking for "greater opportunity".
Look at the map of the Seventh District...it's largely suburban, not just Baltimore City. Mail-in votes didn't matter - he got 75% of the vote, which is about what one would expect under normal circumstances, maybe even a touch less. People are missing the fact that Maryland is transitioning into a majority-minority state, very close to tipping. That is reflected in the recent selection of the first African-American and first female Speaker of the Maryland House after the death of the old white male incumbent.
I expect a bit of "white flight" to the Republican party in some areas less liberal than others, mostly by older folks. Ultimately, demographics will close the deal.
