Let the governors decide

It is good to see state governors increasingly looking for ways to reopen the economy, for, as we have repeatedly argued, the current lockdown can be only a short-term response to the pandemic. People's lives and livelihoods depend on returning to economic and social activity as soon as it can be done safely. So, new state-level discussions and coordination are welcome news.
Ever since the coronavirus outbreak, decisions about whether to close schools and restrict business activities have been made by governors and local officials. This is exactly how the nation's federal republican structure is set up. This is how it should be.

The democrat governors are putting the squeeze on the people in their state with hopes that we will begin to blame Pres. Trump. They want to torture each and everyone one of us.....almost to the breaking point.

Every state has different circumstances and the President said he is working on the timing for each. Some are ready to open up now and some should never re-open just because. I don't have to mention their disgraced names again, do I?

The liberal-democrat controlled regions of the country want to delay for months the return to normal economic activity, and they will demand that we unwashed taxpayers from fly-over country support their delay with our tax dollars. Interesting that they want to give us the finger when they defy the federal government with their sanctuary policies but need us to fund their resistance to the President's call to return to economic normalcy.

Yup, let the governors decide; they're the ones who locked down the states. And then blame the governors (not the president) for the deaths of anyone after the reopening.
Actually, this blaming everyone else nonsense is beyond stupid. Mature people take responsibility for making decisions about how to live, and they also take responsibility for how that life ends up, too

I'm in Michigan. Boy, this doesn't sound like a good idea. Big protest 'Gridlock' scheduled today for the state capitol. 85% of the cases/deaths are in Southeastern Michigan, home of Detroit. But there are whole ('red') counties without a single death, some without a single case. Governor is unfazed.
Pardon me. I've started calling her the governatrix.

OBE. This is the danger of writing a story before watching the latest virus briefing by the President.

You go decide, Governors, and you go pay for it. That has been my goal all along. Finally, Ca., NY, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Virginia, Maryland, are going to go their way, and leave the rest of us out of it. Thank you. Go and don't come back!

Groups of liberal Democrat Governors on the coasts should not be establishing unconstitutional State compacts with each other designed to oppose the President Trump’s guidelines and recommendations to re-open the US economy.
It was the Governors based upon CDC guidelines who effectively shutdown the economies of their States, so those Governors should be the politicians who open up their State economies while following federal guidelines and recommendations based upon the differing public health situations in their individual States. If this issue turns into a political football with the Republican Governors following the Federal guidelines and recommendations and re-opening their economies that then go back to near normal, with the Democrat Governors opposing the President’s guidelines, keeping their State’s economies shutdown, thus destroying a lot of jobs and small business in their States, there is no doubt that the electorates of those States will take revenge on those Democrat Governors and other Democrat candidates in the November election, Trump recognizing that, has said that he intends to cooperate with the Governors as much as possible, so there is no doubt that Trump will recommend re-opening the US economy, State by State, as soon as possible, in keeping with the public health situation in each State.

Wrong. This is not a state issue. Coastal urban hot zones need to be kept locked down. Flyover country never should have been locked down to begin with. California Governor Hairslick is deciding that residents of remote mountain villages should not be allowed to hold hands? Preposterous.
