We Americans are truly blessed by having a mainstream media full of brilliant renaissance men, women, and gender non-specific entities who are masters of so many varied and intermittently useful skills and who are eager to share their knowledge with us benighted souls. The pandemic has revealed that every urban Twitter blue check scribbler, MSNBCNN panelist, NYT/WaPo doofus, and barely legal “senior editor” of a website you never heard of, is a Nobel Prize-winning epidemiologist, a master logistician, and a diversity consultant too boot.
They may all be lousy journalists, but damn it, they are also lousy at other jobs that they didn’t even pretend to train to do.

FTA: “Our media is garbage, full of clowns and dilettantes with no experience and less common sense.”
And that is a nice description. The media has fueled panic because they believed it would hurt the President. They stand up in press briefings and ask snarky questions and make outrageous comments you would never hear them say to BHO because they want to damage the President. The media is a group of arrogant fools who believe they are smarter than anyone with whom they speak. The media believe they are relevant and that people listen to what they have to say. Most people ridicule them, loathe them, and avoid them. Just when you thought they could not do more harm to themselves after watching their antics during the impeachment debacle, they have managed to even outdo their histrionics and hyperbole. They have destroyed what little reputation they had since the President was elected. They are a laughingstock to anyone who is paying attention. Their behavior during this crisis has made them irrelevant to anyone who seeks the truth and I don’t believe there is any coming back from there. Well done useful idiots, you have confirmed yourselves to be enemies of the American people every time you have opened your mouths at these briefings. Like the democrats, when you could have used this crisis to rise above politics, you chose to act like vindictive partisan hacks. Neither of those groups have an ounce of truth, integrity or character and have made it abundantly clear that damaging the President is your driving force even if it damages the country. History is not going to treat you well.

FTA: "The same people who are always telling us how smart they are and how they are morally entitled to instruct us peasants have never designed anything, engineered anything, built anything, trucked anything or assembled anything, except maybe some crappy Ikea bookcase. But they are qualified to insist that – POOF! – a bunch of N95 masks should magically appear overnight. I guess everything is easy if you don’t have to do it yourself."
Bias alert her, I have been in manufacturing since bell bottoms. With that in mind, when we proudly proclaimed that we were transitioning to a "service" economy and purged ourselves of the filthy pesky mess that is manufacturing, we were signing our death warrant. Wonder why we have had a dearth of STEM talent? Because much of the demand for engineers was driven by manufacturing which we drove off.

How right you are #4. Manufacturing - the tinker jobs. They were great for first jobs out of high school and one could make a good living and raise a family if you stuck with it, or go on to college while you worked to pay tuition. These were jobs for immigrants and handicapped too. The US still has a thriving manufacturing base, but bc China has taken over many of those former sectors, the competition has driven the wages much lower - they're not the plentiful, great low-skilled jobs they once were.

This may be 50% heresy but the GOP in DC participate willingly, even eagerly, in the kayfabe of politics including media coverage. 'Kayfabe' refers to the round-the-clock play-acting that occurs in pro wrestling (at least as long as non-wrestling people are watching).
Note that media coverage is at least 95% opinion. 'He called you a name - what do you call him?' It's juvenile, it's pointless, it's never-ending. But all by design. Politicians are rarely, if ever, asked to demonstrate factual knowledge. Of anything. They are also not asked to demonstrate logic. They will offer if-then-else statements but those are, again, strictly their opinions. AOC, for example, would melt if she was quizzed on economic history, authors, theories, studies, etc. Rashida Tlaib couldn't name the president of Egypt who was assassinated. Ilhan Omar is ignorance personified.
Up the chain, the same holds. Pelosi is at the stage in life where she talks with the sole aim of running out the clock. For example, in stressing the importance of the internet she said we needed to preserve the viability of - wait for it - 'telemarketing.' She is never asked about the details of legislation because she has openly said time and again that she doesn't know and doesn't care. She'll employ the Appeal to Emotion fallacy because it's worked in the past.
But Kevin McCarthy et al gladly participate in the pantomime. Why have these TV pseudo debates involving a news anchor when a) Democrats and Republicans should be debating head-to-head and b) there is a nice big chamber in a nice big Capitol building with nice big leather seats intended solely for such debates? Nobody wants to hold regular order. They all want to speechify onscreen.

#6 (our friend, Patchy) is Post of the Year.
Painful to read, but so true, esp with the recent revelations about Kevin Brady.
Is there not a good man in Washington?

Great take-down of the media, but the Colonel should have included politicians like AOC who don’t even know that lettuce grows in dirt. She probably also doesn’t know that beef comes from cows, pork from pigs or chicken from chickens.

Being a reporter used to be a trade that was learned by apprentices who started out as copy boys and worked their way up to reporter. You found the news and you reported it.
A small few veteran reporters became columnists who were allowed to comment on the news and to give their opinions.
It was simple and it worked.

A commenter on TH summed up my opinion on Trump's reaction to C19.
If he had brought up a possible pandemic in December the media would have screamed "wag the dog" he's trying to divert attention away from impeachment!
When he banned travel from China they cried xenophobia and now deny they ever did. The MSM fail to play the mid- late February videos of Deblasio and other NYC officials encouraging people to get out in the streets and Pelosi in Chinatown and the LA dims encouraging Mardi Gras. No, it is all because orange man didn't act soon enough. I hope Americans are really paying attention to the MSM lies, but,if family is any indication, I fear they are not.
