Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's push to ban the sale of assault weapons has failed after members of his own party balked at the proposal. Senators voted to shelve the bill for the year and ask the state crime commission to study the issue, an outcome that drew cheers from a committee room packed with gun advocates. Four moderate Democrats joined Republicans in Monday's committee vote, rejecting legislation that would have prohibited the sale of certain semiautomatic firearms, including popular AR-15 style rifles, and banned the possession of magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.

I guess the rally worked!
Dem Senators saw their careers on the line and voted for self-preservation. Their vote had nothing to do with the right to bear arms!

Those dem senators may have prevented (or at least delayed) Civil War 2. Regardless of their motivation, they have done a good thing.

They balked because of November 2020. They didnt vote it down, they tabled it. Should they maintain the majority in November, look to see them resurrect the bill and pass it.

This is very good news. Dems realizing that this anti-2nd Amendment bill was not selling to voters, and a few backed off.
Closer than it should ever have gotten in Virginia. Back from the brink, at least for a while.

They passed red flag law and a one handgun per month limit along with universal background checks. They pulled this one back. So they get 80% or more of what they want but stall the most egregious of the bills thus mollifying their opponents (a tactic used repeatedly and with quite successfully). Now they will continue the propaganda campaign against self defense rights and present themselves as "reasonable" and "moderate" while painting the pro self defense people as unbalanced extremists and fanatics. If they can manage to maintain their majorities in the legislature this November (and holding back on this one bill is aimed at just that) and put another leftist into the governor's mansion they will pass the ban on various "evil" firearms along with bans on any accessories they don't like.

Without all the backlash, this would have flown through the Senate. The devil never sleeps though, and it's just tabled until after November elections. The grabbers did get some things, and the red flag law is insidious - confiscation by a judge with no hearings.
We need to keep up the pressure.

They put it off until after the election. They are still evil.

"..and banned the possession of magazines that hold more than 12 rounds."
This goes way beyond what other states have done and has been declared unconstitutional by a court in California, although it has not gone to the Supreme court. Attempts to enforce it would mean routine confiscation and shootouts with lawful gun owners. It is even bigger than the AR ban, which is just a ban and not confiscation.

Just a pinch of sanity apparently remains in Virginia. Unfortunately they will have to wait until 2021 to get rid of Northam and rebalance their legislature, if they can summon more sanity. If Trump wins strong in Virginia this year that will be a good sign. At least it will strike fear in the Virginia dem party.

Nothing like an election year to put the fear into legislators...

Curses! Foiled again. This campaign in Virginia came too close for comfort but the inevitable end came about. The 2nd Amendment defends itself and no amount of radical leftist dweebs is going to take it away no matter how much money George Soros and his ilk throw at it. The prospect of Americans going door to door to confiscate firearms and magazines from fellow Americans is unfeasible and unworkable due to the bloodshed that would ensue. We saw what Hitler did and learned well from it. Try again, dimwits.
