French President Emmanuel Macron warned in a new interview that NATO is undergoing "brain death" due to a lack of commitment from its primary benefactor, the United States.
In an interview published Thursday with The Economist, Macron warned that the Trump administration's decision to conduct unilateral military actions such as the withdrawal of troops from Syria indicated that nations in the alliance were less committed to upholding long-standing mutual defense agreements.(Snip)NATO "only works if the guarantor of last resort functions as such," the French leader continued. "I'd argue that we should reassess the reality of what NATO is in the light of the commitment of the United States."

The U. S. also provided the on-call military so the other countries didn’t have to keep standing armies or hire mercenaries to protect them from the bad guys.

If Macron's response was indeed about the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, he has apparently forgotten that Turkey is a NATO member.

I am pretty sure that Britain contributed the biggest proportion of monies to the European Union, as does the United States contribute the most monies to NATO. I think the President believes the U.S. should not always be responsible for contributing the largest amount of monies to NATO, while other countries were not even contributing the small amounts they were assigned to pay. I am sure the President believes in altruism as much as the next person, but all that altruism is making us go deeper in debt and makes us dependent upon others which is not good.

President Trump does not expect the taxpayers of the USA to provide security for France anymore.
Perhaps they can refurbish that The Maginot Line that they were so proud of back eighty years ago.
Their most recent military hero of greatness was a woman, and they burned her at the stake.

So, he basically concedes he and the EU expect to be the charges and benefit from the American largesse.
Well, put on your big boy coullottes and grow up, Emmy.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't a crisis in the Middle East, Syria, Turkey and the Kurds a European problem? Why aren't French/Belgian/German troops guarding the Kurds oil refineries? Right now the camel jockeys can just get on a raft, or drive to Europe's heartland. Shouldn't YOU, pResident Macron, be concerned about the muslim terrorist living in your suburbs?
Or is protecting your own country and interest a vital part of your militaries job? We have enough problems with our border and the rats in congress that will not fun the wall. You gave the Ayatollah Kameljocky free rein in your country. You (the French government) knew the dangers in islam when you let the camel stick its nose under your tent. It's you and your German cohorts that opened the door to this scum of the earth to come to your country and kill and rape your daughters and goats.

Europeans, including French and Germans, need to pay for their own defense. They enjoy a high standard of living while the US pays for their defense.

In essence, Macron only feels safe behind the apron of the US Military.

More evidence that the U.S. involvement with NATO needs to end, permanently and immediately. Put the personnel on the Mexican border.
We once were wise enough to abhor the very idea of standing armies. Now?? I gather that that wise belief ended with our stupid involvement in WW-1 and the Spanish American, neither of which should have involved us

Didn't the same French government tell Ronald Reagan to have our planes fly around France to get to Libya to bomb Kadafi. I guess their mildewed brains forget the American soldiers who trudged across Europe and died for their freedom.

"... lack of commitment from its primary benefactor, the United States ...". When I put that in my French to English translator, it comes back as "The United States is making us pony up".

The Euroweenies have mostly closed down their militaries. What weapons that they have on the books are largely outdated and many don't work, no money for repairs. An example is aircraft, and many countries only 1/3 to 1/2 of the aircraft that they have are actually airworthy. Many have been scavenged for parts to keep the last of them flying. Tanks are much the same, and most of them have very, very few ships left.
The Euroweenies are not at all serious about their defense. They are fools, somehow convinced that "we have evolved past all that", and eventually they well be wiped out. '
The most potent weapon which is currently destroying them is the Muslim's secret weapon - the womb.

In other words, without United States money and troops, NATO is worthless. What then, is our reason for even being a member of this helpless gaggle of cowards and incompetents? Fight your own fights you little twerp, European lives, especially French, are no longer worth American blood.

This little twit. “The guarantor of last resort”, if he’s talking about the U. S., became Europe’s daddy, with a wide-open wallet while they contributed as little as possible. You bet they will miss the U. S.
