Even as the number of coal-fired power plants under development worldwide declines, increased coal use in China and a proposal to boost capacity could imperil global climate change goals, researchers have warned. The industry´s powerful China Electrical Council called this month for ramping up the national coal power capacity to as much as 1,300 gigawatts by 2030, a 30 percent increase compared to today´s levels. With nearly 1,000 GW in operation, China accounts for about half the world´s coal-fired power, with the United States (259 GW) and India (221 GW) a distant second and third, according to the Global

The 12-years-to-annihilation canard reminds me of the Rodney Dangerfield joke.
"Wonderful man, Dr. Rosenberg. He told me I had only 6 months to live. I told him I couldn´t pay his bill by then. He said, ´O.K, I´ll give you twelve months to live!"

The Chinese have access to state-of-the-art emissions control technology, they just won´t install it unless we (the "West") pay for it (same for India). See the "Paris Climate* Accords".
* The document isn´t really about the climate, but we all know that.

Bwahahahahahahaha!
Chinese Communists care about their own power. A government that will murder 10,000 peaceful protesters will damn well build what it wants, where it wants, regardless of its impact on people or place.
So, please earth huggers, go chain yourself to the fence of a ChiCom power plant, dam, or anything else that offends your sensibilities. See how concerned the ChiComs are with your higher morality.

Fake - - fake - - fake news!
"Climate change" is a complete fabrication - - a total hoax - - as was its predecessor Gullible Warming.
Chicom coal burning may put more particulates into the local atmosphere - - but it will not have any affect on "global climate."
Only God and His works can affect that.
Fake - - fake - - fake!

The Chinese were hoping to alleviate a lot of the coal pollution issues by purchasing American Anthracite coal mines when Obama and Hillary were trying to shut down the American companies who owned them. Hard coal is much easier to use scrubber technology on.
Keeping the mines open nd in American hands is another Trump Victory not reported in the MSM.

I´d like to make one small correction to this FTA:
"Scientists have said that the use of coal -- the most carbon-intensive of fossil fuels -- must decline sharply if humanity is to avoid the worst ravages of climate change."
Scientists have been paid handsomely to say that the use of coal.....
There fixed it.
Frankly, I really don´t like mountains to be flattened for fuel but I wouldn´t dare put my esthetic preferences ahead of lifting billions of people out of poverty.

We already have a reliable green alternative to fossil fuels-nuclear power. Absolutely no emissions, plenty of job opportunities, tons of growth potential and technological innovation. But if the tree huggers want to scream about the dangers, how come they never bring up the dangers associated with their own pie-in-the-sky schemes? Mainly the destruction of the economy, higher power costs with the poor being the most affected, etc. China isn´t letting ANYTHING get in the way of their national expansion. A country that can construct a municipal project like The Three Gorges Dam does not care what some hippie environmentalist half a world away says. Nuclear-and eventually cold fusion-are the best alternative we currently have if zero emissions is given top priority.

Well Marlowe, why don´t you just go to China and get in their face about it? Sitting behind your keyboard and putting out rubbish won´t accomplish anything, except for the believers who will nod their heads yes and waste a few minutes of their life talking about it.

If you think thru the "climate change" narrative, and the focus on CO2, it´s more about pollution.
Did you know that the main glacier in Greenland that the scientists point to for the melting, has been increasing in ice the last 2 years?
Bet they didn´t have that in their computer models.

I go back to basic understanding of the carbon cycle, humans exhale carbon dioxide, trees and plants use carbon dioxide to grow, in the process exhaling oxygen for humans to breathe. If that cycle is interrupted and gets out of balance, we lose our food sources and our oxygen. Can air become too clean and therefore threaten our very existence?

Does anyone else see the irony of China, the country that builds solar panels and windmills and exports them to the US using using coal fired power plants for electricity? If they can´t solar and wind their way to a reliable power grid, why can´t the idiots on the left see it?
