PROVIDENCE, R.I. – President Donald Trump was just doing what he could to raise spirits when he signed Bibles at an Alabama church for survivors of a tornado outbreak, many religious leaders say, though some are offended and others say he could have handled it differently. Hershael York, dean of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Theology in Louisville, Kentucky, said he didn´t have a problem with Trump signing Bibles, like former presidents have, because he was asked and because it was important to the people who were asking. "Though we don´t have a national faith, there is faith

It´s a book. It is a personal possession, to be used however the owner chooses.
It has wonderful words in it, but there is no problem marking it as yours, and noting history things in it like births, deaths and the visit of a President.

Another mountainous molehill. The above poster is right, of course, about Bibles being written in and marked in many meaningful ways.
Unrelated joke: Did you hear about the soldier who carried a bullet in his shirt pocket over his heart? In case he was ever hit by a bible in combat.

Would they complain if former President Obama signed a copy of the Koran?
Yeah, that´s what I thought too.

I am glad he did. I also hope that those "leaders" who are aghast at this, will tie a millstone around their neck and fling themselves into the sea.
How foolish and small they are.

Christians are not concerned with the things of this material world. It´s a shame no one every taught the MSM that.

How heartless, mean, or even evil would he have been depicted had he refused to sign them?

A family bible is more than a religious object - it is a family record in many cases, with notes of births, deaths, marriages.
And under certain circumstances, notations in a bible can be used as a legal document.
With all of that in mind, a signature from a president is hardly heresy.
Celebrities tend to sign whatever is offered to them - photos, menus, scrap paper, and whatever.
(One of my graduate students worked in Las Vegas for a time, and was out on a dinner date with Dale Berra, Yogi´s son. A young woman came over to their table and asked if he would sign something for her. He said he would, and the young woman flipped out her bare breast. He signed it.)

By their fruits you shall know them.... He has raised the incomes of the poor and is the loudest political voice in the world in defence of the unborn. His WB nominee is more interested by FAR in the worlds poor than the previous WB president was. So as for correcting his manners? Shutup.

MEDIOTS!! He merely wrote his name on a page in a book. He was not autographing it. If you own a bible, you know WHO did write it. Forty or so writers over 2000 years.

It’s the epitome of hypocrisy to condemn Trump for signing Bibles when they themselves, are haters of God. Liberals hold conservatives to standards while they themselves, have none.

You said it #7! That is exactly what would have happened. They also would have trotted out some "clergy" scolds to underline their hypocrisy.

One of the things someone will dig out of wreckage is a family Bible. So for a lot of them it is what they had to get his signature. Heresy my foot.

It’s not heresy to sign a Bible, but to suggest a Bible is too holy for a signature comes very close to idolatry.

It does not matter what the President does or says. People who hate him continue to hate him.
