The liberal New York Times made the case Monday that Republican Herschel Walker has been ostracized from the black community in his small hometown amid his bid to unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in the race for U.S. Senate in Georgia. Times reporter John Branch, who is based in California, used mostly anonymous sources and anecdotes from visiting Walker’s hometown of Wrightsville to generalize that feelings that Walker, a Georgia football legend, is not in touch with the black community are “flowering ahead of November’s election.” “Herschel’s not getting the Black vote because Herschel forgot where he came from. … He’s not part of the Black community,” Branch quotes

San Francisco’s government raised the Chinese flag over city hall last week to mark the founding of the People’s Republic of China 73 years ago. The city government’s action was carried out despite Beijing’s ongoing genocide in western China, as well as propaganda support for Russia’s war against Ukraine. The flag-raising took place during a ceremony on Friday with city and Chinese officials and local business representatives, according to Chinese state media. Oct. 1 was the anniversary of the founding of the communist state that critics say has been responsible for the deaths of millions of people since the Chinese Communist Party seized power in 1949.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan, for the first time in five years on Tuesday, prompting a warning for residents to take cover and a temporary suspension of train operations in the northern part of the country. The Japanese government warned citizens to take cover as the missile appeared to have flown over and past its territory before falling into the Pacific ocean. It said it did not use any defence measures to destroy the missile, which was the first to fly over or past Japan from North Korea since 2017. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida condemned the launch and called North Korea's actions 'barbaric.'

President Biden traveled Monday to Puerto Rico to survey hurricane damage, meet with families and announce $60 million in emergency aid to prepare the island for future storms. Mr. Biden’s trip comes two weeks after Hurricane Fiona ravaged the island. As of Monday, 100,000 people are still without power because of storm damage.
After receiving a briefing from civil leaders about Fiona’s aftermath, Mr. Biden announced a new round of funding for the island. The aid will be used to shore up levees, strengthen flood walls and create new flood warning systems to prepare Puerto Ricans for future threats. It will come from the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package that Congress

Defunct newsstands and other abandoned New York City sidewalk structures will be turned into “street hubs” for bike-riding food delivery workers under a $1 million infrastructure initiative rolled out by Mayor Adams on Monday. The hubs will serve as places where delivery workers can catch some downtime, charge electric bike batteries and access gear for repairing their two-wheelers, Adams said at a long-vacant newsstand outside City Hall, the first location that will be refurbished as part of the effort.(Snip)The mayor was also joined by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York’s most senior Democrat in Congress, who allocated the $1 million

Mayor Adams revealed Monday he made the call to let his public safety deputy have an NYPD security detail—and dismissed the notion that the police deployment would need a green light from the department’s intelligence bureau. “I am the intelligence bureau. I decide what I need in my agencies to get the job done,” Adams said at an unrelated press conference when asked if the detail for his deputy mayor of public safety, Philip Banks, was assigned by the NYPD division.(Snip)But Banks, a former NYPD chief who abruptly left the department in 2014 while under federal investigation, has had a police detail at least since June, raising eyebrows

The chief of the Federal Emergency Management Agency insisted Sunday that Hurricane Ian aid will be provided to “all communities”—dismissing Vice President Kamala Harris‘ earlier claim that the assistance should be “based on equity.” ”We’re going to support all communities. I committed that to the governor, I commit to you right here that all Floridians are going to be able to get the help that is available to them through our programs,” Deanne Criswell said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday. Criswell was responding to a question from host Margaret Brennan about Harris’ Friday comments and the backlash that they prompted, including from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’

From interest rates to the weekly shop, the cost of living is rising faster than it has for decades. But the question is: has the price of happiness gone up as well? And if so, what can we do about it?
Let’s set things straight. Yes, money matters for happiness. If you’ve ever had to choose between putting food on the table and paying the electricity bill, this is not news to you. While money is not a guarantee of happiness, being without money is a common cause of stress, worry and unhappiness.(Snip)This is what hygge is all about. Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda told reporters Thursday that California’s ban on the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in 2035 will be “difficult” to achieve, given present battery technology and constraints facing the state’s electricity grid. As Fox News reported, Toyoda was reacting to the new mandate imposed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and the powerful California Air Resources Board (CARB), which will require almost all new car sales to involve electric vehicles in just 12 years.(Snip)“Realistically speaking, it seems rather difficult to really achieve them,” Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda told reporters through a translator on Thursday discussing California’s new mandates.

In an all-too-tellingly-empty stunt, Gov. Kathy Hochul last week ordered the state Department of Environmental Conservation to issue regulations banning the sale of gas-powered cars, pickups and SUVs by… 2035. It’s not just that she’ll be long gone by then, or that she was simply marking National Drive Electric Week by pretending to keep up with California’s similarly dubious 2035 only-electric rule.
Nor that, as even The New York Times admits, electric cars are still far too expensive and impractical for all but the rich—with vast technological and industrial progress needed before they make sense even for the middle class. Not to mention building hundreds

Sen. Rick Scott on Sunday responded with reluctant criticism of former President Donald Trump‘s verbal jab at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife, Elaine Chao. Mr. Trump on Friday lambasted Mr. McConnell as having a “DEATH WISH” for helping pass a stopgap funding bill to avoid a government shutdown and mocked Ms. Chao, who had served as his Transportation secretary.
“Must immediately seek help and advise from his China loving wife, Coco Chow!” Mr. Trump posted on his social media site Truth Social.
Mr. Scott of Florida, chairman of Senate Republicans’ campaign arm, initially dodged a question about whether such rhetoric was appropriate before he condemned it.

Weddings booked by Britons at a stunning Victorian country mansion have been cancelled after the Home Office announced it needed the hotel for migrants. At least three weddings have reportedly been cancelled at the Grade II-listed Stoke Rochford Hall in Lincolnshire:(Snip)The historic mansion, run by Countrywide Hotels, was already hosting migrants under what local media describes a “compulsory contract” with the government, and was forced to cancel the planned weddings after being told it was required to take on even more. “The hotel has received notification from the Home Office that the current government contract is to be extended to take additional families with immediate effect,”

Feeling glum because your government has you hungry and freezing in the dark? Take heart, because hygge is taking the world by storm, while the Ultra 0.001% steal our wealth and destroy our standard of living because they need us to be miserable and demoralized. Simply light a candle, huddle under the blankets, and thank your lucky stars that things aren't even worse than they are.
