Things I Never Knew Existed: Wealthy
Black Communities

At the risk of modeling a “soft bigotry of low expectations” and/or sounding racist, here goes nothing: I recently learned that there are several majority-black, upper-class communities in America. And I am not talking like an inversion of George Floyd Square that encompasses a few blocks; I am talking entire developments and dedicated city areas. It’s not necessarily surprising given the profundity of opportunity in and greatness of this country, and yet I genuinely didn’t know such prosperous communities existed. CORRECTION*

Comments:

Because this is the greatest country in the world, and the land of opportunity. Work hard, be responsible, and it doesn't matter what race, creed, or color you are, you can succeed.

I guess this is why I do not understand the complaints of Barack and Michelle Obama. It seems like all we ever hear is the suppression of the black people. White people are bad and supremacy exists. Yet, like the above comment, why didn't these people grab the opportunities before them and work hard to achieve their dreams. After all, a person never knows where they can go with an opportunity, right?

Prince George's County Maryland has several of those wealthy communities PLUS a strong number of solidly middle class black communities. Most of them got their start working in government; but have since branched out to other fields — such as a large hospital corporation based in Maryland.

Look at how many black athletes and movie stars are multi millionaires. They are among the wealthiest people in America and are the loudest complainers. Of course, Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson like to keep the blacks down since that is what puts money in their pockets.

Why do wealthy blacks gather together and segregate themselves? Will the government force them to incorporate section 8 housing into their communities?

I worked with a painting contractor in 1980. He got a bid to paint the interior of a house in L.A. it was a swanky place, really expensive. While we were doing the prep, the black owner came home to check on us. He was a gentleman and was obviously comfortable with his wealth, wearing a thousand-dollar suit. When he left, I asked who he was. My boss said, “a local council member.” Now, today, I wonder if he was connected to Maxine Waters. I don’t believe there are any blacks in big city government hurting for money.

This has always been the case. I'm from the south. I've worked with many black people during my 30 year career. They were hard workers, took care of themselves and their families, educated their children and had nice houses. This is why I know this screaming by black hucksters is just a money and power grab. To be honest, most of the black people I worked with had college educations. And I also know they are as disgusted with race baiters as we are. Yeah, a few weren't so pleasant, but they were a small minority of employees.

Proof that while there isn't inherent racism there is culturelism. A culture of failure and a culture of success. A lot of blacks know to pursue the culture of success.

When I have dealt with successful Black individuals who have felt free enough to discuss racial issues, they have always been embarrassed by the action of the militant black activists. They always felt that the radical activists and people who were protesting and rioting were giving all Blacks a bad name and reputation. While the successful people may have been upset about many of the same things that the others were angry about, they were able to look at it from a more calm, rational view which did not involve destroying neighborhoods or looting stores. They advocated following the law, supporting the police, and working to change things legally from within the system. They believed that if they were good examples for their community, good things would follow. Unfortunately, these people are accused (as Senator Tim Scott and Dr. Ben Carson have found out) of being sell-outs to the White man. No, they are just supporting their community. A community which supports people of all races and colors!

During the Obama administration, the WSJ had an article about Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard where the black elites vacation. Embedded in the article was the observation that the Obamas never vacationed there, but instead chose predominantly white communities instead. The author implied that they were not so accepted among the Oak Bluffs elite. Apparently they didn't have a problem with Barack, but instead with Michelle who the wives nicknamed "ghetto girl."

#10 I remember that article. I forget if that's where ValJar lives. None of them live in the ghetto or came from one. There was an article about another wealthy gated black community who did not want whites moving in. If Joey keeps sending stimulus checks, checks per child, and more unemployment, there will be more wealthy blacks because they have received enough money for a down payment on a house.

Liz Cheney ousted from role as House GOP Conference chair; replacement still unclear 17 replies

House Republicans ousted Rep. Liz Cheney Wednesday morning in a closed-door vote from the No. 3 spot from leadership -- but the Wyoming Republican remained defiant on the way out. Cheney had remained steadfast in her opposition to former President Donald Trump and his "dangerous lies" about the 2020 election being stolen from him -- putting her at odds with other House Republicans who wanted to move on from the Jan. 6 riot and unite the party to win in the 2022 midterms. Cheney was removed by a voice vote and took a swing at Trump after the Capitol meeting.

Prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – a law that was passed by an overwhelmingly white Congress and signed by a white president – separating students according to the color of their skin was commonplace, particularly in southern states. Laws that had become known collectively as “Jim Crow” were designed to divide us by race. Black students attended ‘colored’ schools, which had colored teachers and colored sports teams, while white students learned in white schools. After 1964, as the integration of everything from schools to water fountains advanced, and as we moved on from the bigotry of Jim Crow, America’s…CORRECTIONS*

House Republicans planted themselves firmly in the camp of Donald Trump on Wednesday when they removed Rep. Liz Cheney from their leadership team after her criticism of the former president. In a closed-door meeting in the basement of the Capitol, Republicans voted to oust Cheney after she repeatedly called out Trump's false claims he won the election and criticized his role in the January 6 insurrection. After a voice vote, Cheney said: ‘I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again, is anywhere near the Oval Office.’ Cheney had addressed Republicans in the room before the vote.

It was said during our Mideast military adventures, and has been considered a truism of war, that you can’t really win a conflict without “boots on the ground.” For it’s difficult to completely subdue a people from afar. It may not be too different with battles for civilization. (snip) If you heard about a Third World country in which the leadership was purging the military of political opponents, would you assume it was just an exercise in ideological nepotism? (snip) So you need a purge. You do this by conjuring up a boogeyman — in our case “white supremacy”

They’re still completely obsessed with him and basically can’t live without him. They always need him as a focal point. The New York Times ran this “gotcha” story today, as though it were something truly significant, “Over 100 Republicans, including former officials, threaten to split from G.O.P.” What is the issue, the New York Times says? The fact that the GOP still is supportive of Trump. “This is a first step,” said Miles Taylor,
