MINNEAPOLIS - Community activists delivered stacks of boxes Friday to the Minneapolis city clerk's office to file a petition to amend the city charter in order to replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a public safety department. Following the death of George Floyd, there's been a community push to defund or disband the Minneapolis Police Department. Activists say the petition is a step toward changing public safety and policing in the city. The 30 boxes now standing in the city clerk's office mark the first step of the process for a petition to amend the city charter. According to the clerk

This is lunacy.
"After presenting, the clerk has 10 days to validate the petition has been signed by enough registered voters. The clerk's office says 11,906 signatures are needed, Yes 4 Minneapolis says they collected more than 20,000."
The clerk gets all of 10 DAYS to go through 30 boxes, count the number of signatures & verify the signers are ALL live :) registered voters? Only 10 days? What a racket!
This is the kind of crap that blasted creton omar has brought to a once very nice city! If she misses somalia so much let her go back.

I can remember long ago when I did some Union strike duty for a week in the city...it was so nice, a great skyway linking beautiful rotundas in huge office buildings...(fortunately it wasn't winter time) but no longer probably...and no, I wouldn't go back, not on a bad bet...they might as well rename it to Mogadishopolis....

Anyone stupid enough to sign this petition or vote for the resulting replacement of the PD deserves what they get. Unfortunately, there are innocent people who weren't for it who also will take it in the shorts.

I don't need a picture of these activists and the Community Organizers to know who they are.

It'll be GREAT. Social workers....or are they social wokers? to replace cops.
Please do this. I'll love watching the results from 450 miles south. And it will be an excellent cautionary tale for the future.
Let's hope that the do it soon, and spend a lot of time telling everyone exactly how they are "fixing things".

I'm sure every social worker in the country is rushing to Minneapolis to be part of this.

Just think of all the money they will save if they just do away with the police and don't replace them.
Hey, it works in other 3rd world cesspools. There are a lot of Somalis there who can tell them how great it is to have armed gangs keeping order (well, at least when they aren't killing lots of innocent bystanders in their turf wars).
And, hey, you don't need businesses or jobs there either -- since both will disappear quickly once there is no law enforcement. Follow that by all the law abiding people fleeing. And, yes, it will soon look like Mogadishu there (not that I'm sure it already doesn't in many parts of town).
But if that is what they want...

It seems that most "activists" who do not want police are people who had no fathers during their upbringing and, thus, re ignorant of authority.

I'll bet 90% of the signatures are from people who don't live in the city or the state.

What’s the difference between calling the city law enforcement entity a police department of a public safety department other than not wanting to hurt mentally unstable peoples feelings? Maybe one Democrat run liberal city should get rid of all their trained police officers and hire on replacement social workers as a test. Only then after about six months will we know who is best equipped physically and psychologically to handle very dangerous violent criminals, police officers or social workers?
