The Environmental Protection Agency is set to issue wide-reaching regulations on Monday to curb the use and production of greenhouse gases from the refrigeration and air conditioning industries. The new regulations will target the production and importation of hydrofluorocarbons—commonly known as HFCs. The chemical compound was first developed in the 1980s to replace more harmful greenhouse gasses that depleted the earth’s ozone layer. EPA Administrator Michael Regan will propose that U.S. will curb HFCs emissions 85% by 2035. “With this proposal, EPA is taking another significant step under President Biden’s ambitious agenda to address the climate crisis,” Mr. Regan said. “The phasedown of HFCs

A few years ago I paid $$$$ to replace the central HVAC because the R22 was scarce and no longer economical. How many years will it be until I have to do it again because the new 'earth friendly' R410 gas becomes outlawed?
Article doesn't say what the replacement will be, or will we just do without refrigeration.

If it gets too hot at your winter homes, just go to one of your summer homes for the season. That's what our betters do. Apart from that, the Republicans are OK with all of this as selling and installing all those new AC systems to replace perfectly serviceable old ones, and forcing people to buy new cars, then selling the junk to China for scrap, "stimulates the economy."

HVAC guys replace 1965 heaters all the time that are mostly still working and only need minor repairs.
But the ones that are 15 years old are trashed and unrepairable. Our guy told us our new unit only has an expected lifetime of 4 to 5 years. Everywhere they put in semiconductors the lifespan of the equipment is reduced.
Our pool pump was put in in 1995. It worked fine for 20 years. But we had the whole system moved around to the side of the house to get the noise away from the pool area and foolishly conceded to getting a new pump and filter. The pump will not run more than 1-1/2 years without failing. It is on it's 4th circuit board. 1k$ each time.

I saw a "scientific presentation" once about how freon refrigerants "damage the ozone layer" - which is at the extreme upper reaches of the atmosphere, like over 100,000 ft or so.
The theory was all neat and tidy....except for the "hand waving" part, which is a science and engineering real term used when explaining something on a blackboard....and you really don't know or don't have time to explain how some part of the process happens.....you just wave your hands a bit, and skip to the next step.
The 'hand waving part' here is ".....and then the released freon rises up into the atmosphere, where the intense solar energy breaks it down and causes it to react with and destroy the ozone".
Sounds OK, right?
Well, except for one minor problem, the density of the old automotive freon 12 is 1.5 g/cc, and the density of the old home AC refrigerant was just above 3 g/cc. And the density of air? 0.0012 g/cc. So, these gases are 1,000 to 3,000 times heavier than air and yet we are supposed to believe that they magically "rise up into the stratosphere"....?
Seen any granite boulders floating in a lake lately? How about bars of lead floating in a pond? That is MORE likely than any of the freons "rising up into the stratosphere". Granite is about 3 times the density of water, and lead about 11 times.....yet gases which are 1,000 to 3,000 times as dense as air somehow magically float up to the top of the atmosphere? BULL! The laws of physics still apply, and dense, heavy objects do not 'float up' in a low density medium. EVER.
The whole thing has been purely a scam since Day One. Another EPA lie which will cause you a huge amount of money, and increase profits for the big chemical companies.
The patents on the old refrigerants had run out, so the big chemical companies just set their staff of chemists to design new refrigerants AND PATENT THEM, so that for 20 years they can charge whatever they want, no competition, and you must buy it, BY LAW. And now THOSE patents are expired or soon will be, so time to get their corrupt buddies in the government to outlaw your AC unit, force you to buy a new one, and keep out any competition in the refrigerant market.
It's a SCAM. Government regulations designed to keep the big corporations' stranglehold on the refrigerant market.

2. Provide us with scientifically-gathered and statistically-reliable data which support your hypothesis.

Let me guess..... like my "water efficient" dishwasher that now costs 3 times as much, takes 4 hours to complete a load and has to be replaced every 2-3 years. Our new air conditioners will be more expensive, larger and less efficient.

2035 seems to be the magic Biden deadline for emissions. 2049 is the planned year when China will have completed its takeover as #1 power in the world, supplanting the United States. If you doubt me, read Dr. Michael Pillsbury’s The Hundred-Year Marathon: China’s Secret Strategy to Replace America as the Global Superpower… Pillsbury - an admitted former “panda-hugger”, woke up and realized what had been going on and how China - patient as only the Chinese can be - was working its plan to pull this off. Highly recommend this read. The book is at Amazon, and I read it via my library’s ebooks department.

Like #1 & #12 we've had the "replacement" issue with our stove, the cost DID double & it doesn't work nearly as well as the previous one.
Had a 15 yr old Frigidaire, a burner died. HAD I KNOWN I would have asked to have it repaired/rebuilt. The salesmen told me because of obama's EPA regulations, stoves had to be reconfigured, new ones don't last more than 5 years & the extended service agreement (which I usually don't buy) is a REALLY GOOD THING to get. I had to call for service w/in the first month so I went back & did buy that extended agreement - I've had to call again since buying it - all covered.
The new stovetop works ok, but the oven is horrible. The bottom burner is UNDER the oven floor, which makes it easier to wipe up spills, but wastes energy by taking three times as long to get to temp; even a temp as low as 325 takes 30 minutes, & the servicemen both told me after it says it is at temp, you have to give it another 10 minutes to really be there or your food may not cook properly.
The "self-cleaning feature" isn't really a cleaning, it is a steaming which I would be fine with but it is not a good one; we've gone back to using the old caustic spray oven cleaners to get the job done satisfactorily.
I absolutely DREAD when we need to replace anything else - that will be a nightmare.

Follow the money! Like its been said here, a patent must be expiring. That means the cost of the old refrigerant will skyrocket, and new system components like compressors will have to be manufactured. If you want to keep your old car you will be having to get new parts to handle the new refrigerant. The same holds true for home central AC. For the latter, that means a whole new system consisting of new compressor and evaporator! Lucky us over nothing! I hope that all the anti-Trump voters are happy when they see the costs of having Democrats in office. But they are the ones who don't pay attention and worry only about who the Masked Singer is, or who wins The Voice. Life goes on in La-la Land.

#22, not invented yet, but you can bet it will increase costs even more.
Old home AC units needed to withstand a max pressure of 250 psi. Newer units need to withstand 450+ psi to use the newer refrigerants. So not only does the new refrigerant cost more per pound, but the entire unit costs more because it has to be built for nearly double the pressures, but it is also much more prone to leaking and harder to keep the refrigerant gas inside. It takes more complex and expensive joints and piping.
It is totally a scam. More money to the AC manufacturer, more money to the AC repair company, more money to the refrigerant makers. And the customer is screwed.....BY LAW.

Let's look at the exodus from Blue States in the North, to Red States in the South. First the Leftists are in the process of destroying the concept of affordable electricity for cooling, now they are trying to remove HVAC units.
The Deep South, especially Florida, was devoid of any real population until the invention of refrigeration and air conditioning. So I ask; What's the Plan behind The Plan?

What will you replace them with? How will you pay for it? Are we going back to the old ice delivery days, where the man brought a slab of ice for your use box, and you had to regularly dump the melt from the reservoir, beneath.

The way I remember it, DuPont's patent on Freon was about to expire, and thus Freon was deemed a threat to the world. So all air conditioning units using that refrigerant had to be scrapped, from buildings to cars and beyond. And behold, we're about to do the same wasteful and costly thing because professional paper pushers and their nation-destroying Marxist allies want to add another millstone to our necks. By what authority do these criminals operate?
