RIP The Oscars – these grim, woke
ravaged, fun-devoid awards were a
howlingly dull train-wreck that killed the
Hollywood dream stone dead

The howl was loud, prolonged, anguished and animated.Actress Frances McDormand's bizarre imitation of a wolf was comfortably the most surprising and interesting part of this year's Oscars. And although there was a heartfelt story behind it – she was paying tribute to a sound engineer on her movie Nomadland named Michael Wolf Snyder who took his life earlier this year – the howl perfectly encapsulated my own feelings watching the most unwatchable Academy Awards in history.Honestly, if there was an Oscar for Worst Horror Story, it would go to whoever decided it would be a good idea to hold this year's event in a train station.

I made a good decision not to watch. I watched an old Ed Sullivan show which was really good. I have had it with Hollywood. They are a bunch of wealthy Communists who make liberal trashy movies that are depressing enough without a pandemic.

I thought the Oscars were in February, I also thought that only 5 movies were nominated and that only movies with theatrical releases were eligible. When did all this change? Shows how much I care about Hollywood. And in all honestly, the only movie nominated that I heard of was the Ma Rainey one, saw it on Netflix and hated it.

I love movies. I have a whole bunch of DVDs of movies I love and I keep on the lookout for more of them. I haven't been to a movie in 2 years and I doubt if I will any time soon (although I do want to see the next James Bond movie). I have never, ever watched an Oscar show. I tried once, but the scripted talk was so forced and humorless, and the commercials were so intrusive that I gave up and never tried again. Looks like I never will.

Didn't care to watch but saw on Twitter where Sir Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor. I like Sir Anthony and Congratulations to him for winning. Otherwise couldn't care less

I do not want to watch a bunch of self righteous rich people tell me how racist I am; how much I am destroying the planet by driving my SUV; and that the police are out hunting black people on a daily basis. The police are not hunting black people. I am not racist. I like my SUV and you elite drive all kinds of cars and jets that are much worse. Just shut up! I do not care what you think! The only person who said anything worth saying was Tyler Perry when he spoke up against hate against anyone!

#5 the last time I went to a movie theater was to see The Hunt for Red October in the 80s. Haven't been in one since.

It's a real shame that the left has destroyed the entertainment industry. They destroy everything they touch. They are destroying themselves too.

Do you remember the time when Loretta Young and Charlton Heston lectured us about racial equity? Or the time when Vincente Minelli and Doris Day condemned greedy capitalists?
No? Well - - neither do I.

Piers has had a great awakening due to his Meghan Markle experience. I wonder if other aspects of his liberal self will change due to his smackdown for actually speaking his mind about a narcissistic twit who happens to be sort of black.
This account about the Oscars is an entertaining read.

#12, Charlton Heston protested at a segregated lunch counter and marched in Selma. He was very committed to civil rights. But you are right that he didn't screech about it in public. He showed up and lent a hand. Modern day activists could learn something from people like him.

I stopped watching at least 25 years ago. Boring and leftist. From what I can glean....much, much more boring, and much more racist against whites and leftist these days.
Most movies that they make today are trash, too. No point to even bother with 95+% of them. Really poor plots, twisted with leftist propaganda, or just comic book characters (literally) and totally filled with computer graphics....just elaborate Saturday morning cartoons, without the fun and humor.

Of course we didn’t watch. A report this morning indicated that it was a terribly insider affair and many are griping that a dead black actor no one has heard of should have gotten Best Actor. Anthony Hopkins got it for playing a man with dementia in “The Father”. He is such a fine actor, but i’d rather have my hair pulled out than watch such a dreary-sounding film.
Because it was so insider event, with no dreadful (or any) host, it sounds as though they finally got it right. It should be that way. Like the corporation party where Employee of the Year gets a trophy. Leave us out of it.

Hollywood Oscars did what it does best died on it's feet in 2021 unknown and alone. I happened to watch Sounder on TCM a really good movie for it's time. Sounder could have won an Oscar last night for all I care and then there's Casablanca my all time favorite.

If you actually care about really well crafted and impactful movies this was one of the best years ever. Please do not let your disdain for the tired glamour meme of the Oscars prevent you from seeing the great movies that were made this year. "The Father", "Nomadland", "Sound of Metal", "Pieces of a Woman", and especially "Minari" are valuable films that merit repeated viewing both for their stories and the performances. I was ambivalent on "A Promising Young Woman" because of its morally questionable ending and "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" was dialogued too much like a stage play rather than a film for my taste. Even "The Trial of the Chicago 7" was effective in its handling of a unique period in American history. "Judas and the Black Messiah" also dealt with the murder of Fred Hampton in an insightful way although they fell into the tired trope of showing J. Edgar Hoover as an insane evil villain.
"The Father" was a better picture than "Minari" or "Nomadland". "Minari" was less nihilistic than "Nomadland" (or last year's winner "Parasite"). All of them should be seen as quality films whatever your feelings are about woke Hollywood.

Didn't watch. I had no interest in watching awards for a group of films that, with one lone exception (Disney's "Soul") I didn't see (and then I was only half watching "Soul" because I lost interest in it after concluding it was derivative of "Inside Out"). But watching the news reports on the Oscars this morning, I was confused about one thing:why is Netflix being awarded Oscars? Its original movies aren't shown in cinemas, they're shown on TV and computer screens. That should put them in Emmy land, not the Academy Awards. Or maybe its a commentary of how bad the movies coming out of Hollywood are, so much so that the Academy members want something else to vote for besides what their own industry is producing.

I haven't been to a theater to watch a movie in years, so there's no point in watching the Oscars. I wouldn't know what they're talking about. Eventually, most good movies show up on TV or streaming services. I'm content to watch them that way. Not the same as in the theater, but loads cheaper and the floor isn't sticky.

They had to move the homeless away from the train station in downtown L.A., and then erected fences to keep people away, or out, and only allow those who had permission to enter.
Wonder how they controlled the voting process?
Did they allow just anyone to vote, or did they have to meet certain criteria to have that ability?
Did they check and verify that the person who had that privilege to vote was the person who cast the vote(s)? Or, did they have a chain-of-custody criteria they could verify?

When Hollywood collectively decided they were social justice warriors eminently qualified to opine on any subject they choose and sanctimoniously lecture the rest of us because we’re not as important as they are they completely destroyed their own industry. No one cares anymore about them or their movies. They are mainly boring dreck or depressing woke bs about how awful we all are. If they want to obscenely congratulate each other for this train wreck they should mercifully do it in private.

Union Station is a beautiful building. The floors have been waxed and polished daily for many decades. It is a fun visit as is Olvera St. (a tiny Montmartre wannabe) one block over. The Oscars, however, have become mainly negro oriented with actors and negro music winning the awards. Now, if they would donate their winnings to the United Negro Collge Fund, all would be cool, noam sayin?

Years ago, I watched the Oscars from beginning to end. The last few years, I’ve recorded the shows and may have watched one hour out of three. Last night, I watched Cecil Hotel on Netflix, and didn’t know or care what channel Oscar was on. Surely the show had the worst ratings ever, but Hollywood will continue to pat themselves on the back and stay woke.
