New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday that income tax increases in the state were inevitable even if the government did dole out more coronavirus-related aid.
“You probably will see tax increases in any event,” Cuomo said during his press conference.
Cuomo had previously indicated tax hikes on the wealthy were on the table if the government failed to approve more funding for state and local governments.
The three-term Democratic governor said on Wednesday that the consequences would be “devastating” if Congress does not agree to provide aid, involving several thousand layoffs, increased fares and tolls and government borrowing.

This is part of the 'Tax Your Way to Prosperity' philosophy that is so typical of the left. And then when it fails, they'll just say that their socialism 'wasn't properly implemented'. What a joke.

I watched a movie set in NYC a day or two ago, a new production. It could have been filmed pre-covid, but no one wore a mask, so I guess it must have been. No one on the street was wearing a mask.
I just felt like that NYC is gone. These Trump haters have destroyed it. This petty tyrants who want to terrorize you unless you walk in lock step with them. Are some haircuts more susceptible of spreading covid? Here's the list of approved hair styles.
I think they've permanently broken something. Or maybe it always was broken and now it's out in the open.

I can't wait to send more taxes to the Federal Government so they can send more to another state that is financially irresponsible. If Biden is inaugurated, I think I will "Go Galt" and retire.

The question is why no state public employees were laid off? They can't all be essential except in their own minds.
Also, how about a wage reduction for top 20% of NY state employees and elected officials.

These tax hikes are no doubt meant to compensate for the mass exodus of wealth happening in New York. This will lead to even more migration out of the State. Income tax, property tax, sales tax, all are obviously impacted. Eventually, as Margaret Thatcher aptly put it, they will run out of other people’s money. Unfortunately these leftist idiots are infesting red States and bringing their poisonous ideologies with them. They haven’t learned a thing.

What's next, taxing former residents and companies who have left? Exit taxes that take everything on your way out?

Gov. Cuomo is wealthy. Let's see him give up his salary and perks which are paid by the tax payers who are still working. That would help a lot.

The only problem with this is all the rats bailing out of NY will be bringing their destructive leftist voting patterns with them as the move out to infect the rest of the country with the NY disease of rampant, tyrannical leftism.

Well blow me down, Democrats raising taxes, predictable as the sun coming up in the East. After all taxpayers have unlimited money. Wealthy meaning anyone with a job.

We're watching the death throes of a failed Democrat state. This is a good thing. A real-time example of Democrats willingly voting themselves into bankruptcy and dissolution.
Time to put a minimum residency requirement on voting by NY escapees who flee to still solvent states. Like 10 years or so.

We live in Upstate NY. Our State Taxes , including sales taxes, already exceed our Federal taxes by many thousands of $. It is insane here. People who can move, do so.

What he's saying is government exists FIRST and FOREMOST, we will protect these employees despite hope if may be affecting YOU.
If they think an extremely tight House (about 5 votes) will approve a new bailout of the States, Counties and Cities across the country, they must be delirious. When some Western states tried to determine what it would cost (and this was back in June or July, I believe) it was over $1 trillion, just for those few states (maybe 5-6).
Government needs to work on retirements, golden handshakes to help move people close to the retirement age out to help reduce the employee totals. Most states have pension plans which are much better than a 401-k and social security, combined. This should be much easier with remote working for many too.
Don't you wonder how they feel about AOC essentially spiking the tremendous opportunity of Amazon locating their 2nd HQ there now?

Governor Adolph is going to try and disprove the notion that you cannot get blood from a turnip with his tax increases. He has squeezed that turnip bone dry already, and I suspect all those blue state tyrants are betting on a massive bailout from a Biden/Harris administration, even over national objections.

I live in a quota district (which my representative believes the only thing white women are good for is to give him Lewinskis and has said so in public) where bailing out other reckless fascist is the SOP. So calling my quota rep is useless. Still, it POs me to no end to live in a state with less resources and money than NY and the fascist goobernor wants my to bail his behind out.

If so many people are able to work from home, why have a home in NYC, which is becoming the San Francisco of the east? "The Wealthy" can move to wherever they want. Cuomo and deBlasio will be left with the dregs, like the heads of other liberal cities who have kept heaping on taxes and debt, while providing taxpayers with fewer services and amenities.

The New York voter is responsible for Killer Koomo and for the public employee unions that nurture his foul ways.
Those voters mimic the behavior of the planarian flatworm. Cut him in half, and he will regenerate with the same behavior. Hence, Democrats forever. Depressing.

Don Cuomo is raising the level of tribute required for the privilege of living in his state! The Dems answer to everything is to raise taxes-but here its kind of a Catch-22. Because of covid lockdowns businesses have no revenue to tax and people are LEAVING NY in droves. So by raising taxes and extending the lockdowns,,,,businesses have no revenue to tax and MORE people will leave. In droves. And all because Don Cuomo has no clue what he's doing.
