As recently as July, the World Health Organization was still scaring people around the world — who’d either just started coming out of months-long, localized coronavirus lockdowns or whose communities were about to clamp down for the first time — by saying that “total lockdown” might be needed to nip the COVID-19 pandemic in the bud in some places.

The left continues to amaze in their inability to think in terms of trade-offs, everything is always one-dimensional to them. You can't destroy economies and isolate people for months on end without other costs. Given the flu-like mortality rate of Covid, it's clear that lockdown costs vastly exceed the benefits.

Everyday common sense leads to the conclusion that COVID-19 has a life of its own and it will take its course (similar to each annual flu). Until these is a vaccine, individuals who do not have virus antibodies can catch the virus from any other virus infected person. Therefore, (like cases of flu) new cases will continue to occur over and over until no infected person passes the virus to another person (who does not have antibodies), BUT THIS CIRCUMSTANCE WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
Only very few and very geographically limited shutdowns are beneficial. One example of foolish. stupid and irresponsible shutdowns is NYC Mayor de Blasio's recent shutdown of 9 zip code areas in NYC. Those geographic boundaries, like all zip code areas, are arbitrary and therefore scientifically irrelevant relative to proper, appropriate shutdown boundaries. Using zip code areas as shutdown boundaries almost always results in shutting down excessive acreage. It's not a valid excuse to argue: "We needed to quickly shut down areas, and the best we could do was to use zip code areas." NO!!! The best you could have done (and should always be done everywhere) was to pinpoint each of the small areas of the various virus flareups and carefully shutdown as little area as warranted (considering the relevant factors in each area). Using zip code areas was too quick, too easy and too lazy. Since the start of our nation's shutdowns, almost all shutdowns have been too quick, too easy and too lazy.
State governments have had more than adequate time to draft logical science-based regulations and/or statutes regarding proper shutdowns, but it seems far too little progress has been made. As there will be other pandemics, all states should commence drafting and enacting well considered science-based shutdown regulations and/or statutes so that in future we the people will not have to again suffer the hugely unnecessary physical, mental and economic damages that have occurred because of the COVID-19 shutdowns.

This provides Biden and any Dems who win the opportunity to say they are following 'the science' when they get their knees off our collective necks.

Meanwhile in Ohio, our glorious Governor preaches "masks mean freedom" and threatens to lock us down further. He's like Gretchen Whitmers' ugly sister.

Here's a news flash: I do NOT believe anything any one of them says about COVID. Maybe President Trump, because he lived through it, and has good information for people in our age group. It looks like conservatives handle the information differently than do the more liberal or progressive people. Maybe we could just vote on it! I live in a huge city, but on the eastern outskirts. The five counties that surround the big city are all open and operating. Just the big city with the big Democratic ultra liberal mayor are still in masks, gloves and lockdown.

Since WHO seems to parrot Chinese propaganda, can we assume that the CCP is lying to us again?

I'd like to think that Covid will go away after the election, but the ripples from the decisions made over the past 7 months are going to last awhile. I work in hospitality at a convention hotel. Conventions and business travel are our bread and butter. We don't get the holiday traveler or the resort folks. We are barely hanging on right now as groups have cancelled left and right this year and continue to do so into 2021. We are told that they are going virtual with their conventions because there is no guarantee that the virus will be gone or that there will be a vaccine. They want a clause in their contracts that allows them to cancel because their attendees are afraid or the attendees' companies or associations are afraid. How in the world will we combat that? How do we deal with fear, legitimate or not?
Hospitality is in deep trouble folks and no one is talking about it. I wish Mr. Trump would, since he made quite a bit of money in the hospitality trade. Surely he knows what is going on out here.

And NOW, the W.H.O. is advising against lockdowns! I always suspected that the mask wearing was only a placebo-how in the hell was a paper mask going to stop a virus?
