International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), one of the nation's largest technology employers, is planning to invest $150 billion in the U.S. "over the next five years to fuel the economy and to accelerate its role as the global leader in computing," according to a media release. "Technology doesn’t just build the future — it defines it," Arvind Krishna, IBM chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "We have been focused on American jobs and manufacturing since our founding 114 years ago, and with this investment and manufacturing commitment we are ensuring that IBM remains the epicenter of the world’s most advanced computing and AI capabilities."

At one time IBM was the world's leader in computers. Mainframes the size of a tennis court. Then Steve Jobs and Bill Gates started the pc revolution. Am amazed they still exist.

The article must have been adapted from an IBM press release. They were once one of the nation's largest employers. Today, they are reputed to employ something like 35,000 people in the US and perhaps 150,000 worldwide. US employment is only about 1/4 of their workforce. In its mid-1980s heyday, it employed 400,000 people worldwide, with about 200,000 or 1/2 in the workforce in the US. Anyone considering employment with this company should keep these facts in mind. This is a company that adopted a globalist bent, and that didn't improve its prospects when Moore's law cut the cost of computing such that mainframe sales volume dried up, taking the company's equity value with it.

Re #3, Another thing to consider regarding IBM. All those people hired in the 80s are now reaching retirement age. Their employment numbers indicated they aren't replacing them. Who are designing and creating new computers? Who is writing the code for them? Yet their CEO says IBM remains at the epicenter of advanced computing and AI. One can hope maybe this 150B investment reflects a new commitment. Computing is a competitive growing field full of carnivores. Eat or get eaten.

They exist, snakeoil. Major companies rely on mainframe computer for most of their processing. PC's are handling a lot of the desktop work now, but mainframes handle the brunt of the work. And, yes, it's COBOL!

Well, This week the original IBM building, the Bundy Building, is being torn down as is the rest of the original IBM complex. Part of it is now occupied by BAE Systems and there are a couple of other businesses, but IBM left a mess when they pulled everything out of Endicott NY.

Never had any love for 1BM, worked contracts for the Air Force and 1BM was always gaming the system and doing really bad things. I caught them rigging tests for a system we were managing, what happened after that WAS NOT PRETTY!

Re #3 and #5 - you bet main frames still exist, you simply don't see them any longer because they were and still are targets for certain factions in our world. I worked in the mainframe 'arena' for more years than I care to think about, and loved almost every moment of it. I'll repeat here what I said to those who in the 80's and 90's said that mainframes were dead - When General motors runs payroll on a PC or when American Airlines dumps it's custom built Saber System ( reservations, flights, schedules, maintenance etc. ) for a PC, call me !!!

#5 & #9: Surprise: I worked for Big Blue for 11 years, from 1984-95. When I arrived, the seven-year interval mainframe upgrade cycle was underway, as 3081s were being replaced by 3090s. Then a funny thing happened -- or didn't happen -- seven years later: There was no upgrade cycle at that time. And correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think IBM ever announced a new mainframe series intended to replace and upgrade the 3090 series. Reality is that while there may still be mainframes installed, very few of them are being upgraded. And those will eventually be replaced by mutliprocessor server-class systems bought mostly for their high reliability. (Can't afford to have Sabre going down with a Windows Blue Screen or a power supply with el cheapo capacitors from China that blow their tops.) So Moore's law began to take a serious bite at IBM as late as the late 1980s. But IBM's senior management was either oblivious to it or simply chose to do nothing while they planned their exits with their golden parachutes -- something they could easily plan for!

Donald Trump totally humiliated disgraced Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in a made-for-TV moment in Michigan. While speaking to Michigan National Guardsmen on Tuesday, the president spotted Whitmer in the crowd. 'I want to thank Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer," Trump said. 'You know, I'm not supposed to do that. She's a Democrat. They say, don't do that, don't have her here. I said, 'no, she's going to be here... she's done a very good job.' He then called her up in what appeared to be a spur-of-the-moment decision. 'Well, I hadn't planned to speak...' she replied in a cringeworthy moment. 'But on behalf of all the men and women who have served...

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has blocked its first improper payment requests using a new automated payment verification system spearheaded by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). DOGE announced Tuesday that Treasury identified and rejected $334 million in improper payment requests due to missing budget codes, invalid budget codes, and budget codes with no authorization. Invalid budget codes include budgets that had already been fully spent. Unauthorized codes refer to payments not linked to the budget. Prior to DOGE’s intervention, the Treasury’s accounting code was optional for the $4.7 Trillion in payments that go out each year, making traceability almost impossible

Something is “very, very wrong” in Beijing right now, according to foreign policy expert Gordon Chang, who is signaling more “end-of-regime conduct” coming out of Xi Jinping’s China. “At a time when China needs friends because it’s not selling goods to the US, it is going out of its way to antagonize not just the Philippines, not just Taiwan, but also South Korea and Australia,” Chang, a senior fellow with the Gatestone Institute, said on “Mornings with Maria” Monday. “This shows that… this is end-of-regime conduct, because Xi Jinping, he can’t appear to be giving in to the US,” he added.

President Trump’s promised renovation of the White House Rose Garden will begin in a “couple of weeks,” chief of staff Susie Wiles told The Post Tuesday. The president has been keen on revamping the executive mansion to be more functional — and to adhere more closely to his personal style. Trump has already redone the Oval Office, adding gold embellishments from Mar-a-Lago and lining the walls with portraits of presidents — but has also made plans to pave the grass portion of the Rose Garden and add a ballroom. “He’s not going to pave over the Rose Garden. The Rose Garden will look exactly as it does,” Wiles clarified

The first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second administration have revealed at least one unmistakable truth. In short, the federal judiciary poses a serious threat to the freedom of the American people. On Monday, according to The Washington Times, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it would not take up a case involving a challenge to a sweeping and patently unconstitutional California gun-control law. Incredibly, California law bans gun shows on state property, including fairgrounds. The plaintiffs in B&L Productions v. Gavin Newsom had asked SCOTUS to provide relief by blocking the law — already upheld by the notoriously liberal 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals — and then hearing arguments. But

The Trump White House is amazing. They know how to outmaneuver, humiliate, and expose the legacy press at every turn. They lined the White House property with illegal aliens they’ve apprehended, which would be present for every media hit the major outlets have outside the briefing room. To combat this, some outlets, like CNN, have blurred the faces of the criminal scum. This reaction, however, is not shocking. It's very predictable, especially for a virulently anti-Trump network like CNN.

However, this narrative was quickly questioned by energy industry insiders, and Spain’s national energy company now acknowledges that renewable power failure may have been a contributing factor.

It wasn’t long ago that a California governor made it clear that oil refineries were not welcome in his state.
