Best farewell speech in my life

Original Article

The old president gave one of his finest speeches days before handing over the reins to a new president. The incumbent began: (Snip) Like every other citizen, I wish the new President, and all who will labor with him, Godspeed. I pray that the coming years will be blessed with peace and prosperity for all. The president obviously was not FJB but a far greater man—Eisenhower. When he said he served the nation for 50 years, he really did as he served in both world wars. Eisenhower stayed in the military in between the wars when America’s military was at its lowest. He spent 16 years as a major.

Comments:

Wonderful piece. I doubt that Eisenhower is ever mentioned in public schools nowadays, but he was a very good president who ended and prevented wars as well as having fought in the previous ones. If I recall correctly, it was General Eisenhower who insisted that the soldiers who liberated concentration camps at the end of WW2 take photos of the survivors and the camps. He said in future years nobody would believe what the liberating soldiers had seen; they must have documentation. Just one important and sensible action by a good man.

I seem to remember that when Eisenhower and Kennedy were being driven in an open car together to Kennedy's inauguration, that they didn't speak to each other.

The only problem I had with Eisenhower was his disregard for the General who actually won the damn war...Patton! Further his non-intervention, (he coulda stopped it) in the murder of General George!

I missed Quid Pro Joe's last duel with the teleprompter because I watched "The Moths of Madagascar." I know who Eisenhower was and don't need to be lectured to by a half wit. Eisenhower became president to serve the American people. The Delaware Dummy forced himself on America to serve himself. He is not just the most inept, incompetent POTUS in American history but the worst CEO is human history. And he is, by far, the most corrupt using his son Hunter as his bag man with Ukraine, China, and who knows who else. Proof? Check out the value of his properties and compare it with his federal salaries. As Harry Truman said "Show me someone who got rich in politics and I'll show you a crook." Good riddance.

What a wonderful piece by Mr. Surber, as usual. Our younger generation must be educated about this great man. OP, I believe you are correct that it was the good General who insisted local townspeople were brought in to watch the liberation of the vile concentration camps. They were forced to face what they had insisted they never knew a thing about !

I've visited Eisenhower's library in Kansas. It's quite small. He deserves a much larger one and Biden and Obama don't deserve one at all.

I like Ike. As a child growing up, he was my President. I thought all Presidents would be like him. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. A great man in and out of the White House. A great General and a great President.

A lot of us Catholics have been weirded out by President Trump's closeness to Catholic culture. We couldn't figure out where it came from. Last year, he wished the Virgin Mary a happy birthday. He tweeted an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He issued praise for All Saints Day. (Snip) It all began a few years ago when Father Mann was walking through a Queens cemetery and came upon the gravesite of Trump’s parents and grandparents. “It was slightly overgrown,” Father Mann recalled. “I thought this shouldn’t be. This is a historic site. So, I went and bought a weed whacker and some decorations and fixed up the plot.

The Heritage Foundation on Monday launched an advertisement campaign supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to direct the Department of Health and Human Services. The ad, first obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, touts Kennedy as “fearless,” and promotes his policy agenda to make America healthier and combat the chronic disease crisis. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer and former Democratic presidential candidate with deep party roots, launched an independent presidential bid in 2023 before bowing out of the race to endorse now-President-elect Donald Trump in August 2024. “One word to describe Bobby Kennedy: fearless,” the video’s narrator says. “He was when he took on big corporations and big government.

The first week of January laid a thick layer of ice and snow across Poca, West Virginia, and much of the rest of the eastern United States, as the weather returned to normal. (Snip) After Trump’s second re-election, the world is returning to normal, not that I care much about the rest of the world. President Trump’s anticipated return to power is only half the reason the world has changed for the better. The other half is the end of the FJB presidency, which showed the true goal of the American left is destruction.

Just for a change, our regular and increasingly obnoxious feature of "As I said twenty years ago..." is being pre-empted by the marginally less obnoxious feature of "As I said ten years ago..." Exactly a decade ago - January 7th 2015 - two Muslim fanatics burst into the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and killed a dozen people, including the bulk of the senior editorial staff and some of France's best known cartoonists. (Snip) Throughout the very bad ten years for free speech that followed, I have thought often of Stéphane "Charb" Charbonnier, the editor of Charlie Hebdo and a great cartoonist in the French style.

It’s astonishing how Democrats can’t accept defeat or take accountability. With Donald J. Trump returning to the White House, they’re directing their frustration and anger at one man: Attorney General Merrick Garland. Why? Well, because he dithered and didn’t aggressively pursue the phantom charges against Trump, which could have led to his being convicted or something. I don’t know—it’s hard to rationalize people who have a mental illness. It’s funny how they’re slamming the Department of Justice for being terrible at their jobs. The best is the opening line from The Huffington Post, where anger over January 6 was seemingly a bipartisan event—it wasn’t. No one cared except Democrats and

Move over, Trump Derangement Syndrome! It is time to make room for the latest pathology: Musk Derangement Syndrome. The hysteria has been building for some time. It wasn’t so long ago that Elon Musk enjoyed enviable street cred among the brotherhood of snotty, self-congratulating elites. A green energy guru, he made the hearts of the Sierra Club Sultans go pit-a-pat with his talk of “sustainable transport” and solar roofs. Then Musk made several missteps. The first was buying Twitter and restoring open discourse to a platform that was started to encourage, well, open discourse but had become a headquarters of government surveillance and censorship during the first Trump administration.

A jury found Daniel Penny innocent of Alvin Bragg’s ridiculous charges related to subduing a homeless man who threatened passengers in a subway car. The exoneration demolished a media narrative that Penny was a white supremacist stalking black men. AP said, “A Marine veteran who used a chokehold on an agitated subway rider was acquitted on Monday in a death that became a prism for differing views about public safety, valor and vigilantism.” Penny held the man, Jordan Neely, until authorities could take him into custody. A drug called K2 likely killed him. AP quoted Andre Zachery as “his father,” a man who apparently was never in the Neely’s life.

The US Treasury Department will start taking "extraordinary measures" next week to avoid risking a default on government debt, Secretary Janet Yellen said Friday, days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. With the government reaching its borrowing limit, the department would start making the moves on Tuesday, the day after the inauguration, Yellen said in a letter to congressional leaders. That will mean Trump's administration has to grapple immediately with the issue of the debt ceiling. In the past, Congress has routinely voted to lift this bar, but that tool has become a contentious issue, with Republican budget hawks calling for drastic spending reductions instead.
