Has Trump Crossed the Streams?

Could Donald Trump find himself on the cusp of a truly historic achievement? He's already the second president to serve non-consecutive terms (Grover Cleveland), the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20 years, and the first president re-elected after an impeachment (and the first to be impeached twice). Trump could mark another historic achievement soon -- at least in terms of his own history. According to the poll tracking at FiveThirtyEight, Trump may have become more popular than unpopular for the first time in his political life. Washington Post analyst Aaron Blake first noticed it this morning: What makes this fascinating is when it takes place.

Good article. When Reagan left office, I told my wife that we wouldn't see his like again. Trump looks like he may prove me wrong. He had his election stolen, shot, impeached twice, targeted by scheming DAs driven by political ideology and smeared and lied about in our media. A lesser man would have said to hell with this country and retired to Mar-a-Lago to play golf and relax every day. Thank God he didn't.

The assassination attempts focused everyone’s attention on Trump. More people began to notice what was really happening around him, in comparison to what they were being told. The truth is finally catching up to the Increasingly evil and outrageous lies and shenanigans committed against him. People are choosing the difference between right and wrong. Thankfully, there are still enough people in our country who care about the difference.

SCOTUS Decision on Sentencing

One suspects he's quite used to them, but even for President-elect Donald Trump, Thursday has been a busy day. While he spent the morning, along with his wife Melania, at the funeral services for former President Jimmy Carter and later in the day announcing additional appointments to his incoming administration, a bevy of legal decisions was being made regarding him. First, the New York Court of Appeals denied his request to stay the sentencing in his Manhattan criminal case (set for Friday morning). Then, the Supreme Court did the same, just as the 11th Circuit denied his co-defendants' efforts to block the release of (former) Special Counsel Jack Smith's "Final Report."

The Los Angeles County Fire Department erroneously sent an evacuation warning text message alert to all of Los Angeles County on Thursday afternoon, inflicting more panic and confusion on an already traumatized public coping with the most damaging fires in Los Angeles history. The text message was sent at approximated 3:57 PM Pacific time to residents throughout Los Angeles County. It stated: “NEW: This is an emergency message from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. An EVACUATION WARNING has been issued in your area. Remain vigilant of any threats and be ready to evacuate. Gather loved ones, pets, and supplies. Continue to monitor local weather

Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has voiced skepticism at reports that there simply is not enough water to fight the Los Angeles, California, wildfires, pointing out that the way the state is “managed” is to blame. “California has 840 miles of coast line and 3,000 lakes and reservoirs. Why don’t they have enough water to fix any and all fires?” the racing star wrote on X on Wednesday: “At some point I have to imagine it’s getting difficult for hardcore cali lovers to accept the state of their state and how it’s managed,” Patrick, who reportedly lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, stated. All living former first ladies attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral on Thursday, except Michelle Obama. Former first lady Michelle Obama did not attend because she reportedly had “scheduling conflicts,” journalist Jeff Zeleny told CNN. “She’s still in Hawaii,” Zeleny said, underscoring the lack of an open seat next to her husband. “Mrs. Obama sends her thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from the remarkable former President,” her spokesperson told reporters. Because of Michelle Obama’s absence, former President Barack Obama sat in between President-elect Trump and former first lady Laura Bush.

The Supreme Court on Thursday denied President-elect Donald Trump’s bid to delay his Friday morning sentencing in the New York hush money case. The Supreme Court’s order clears the way for Manhattan judge Juan Merchan to impose the long-awaited sentence on the incoming president. Merchan said he would not give Trump jail time, fines, or probation during the virtual hearing. Scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, the sentencing comes ten days before Trump’s inauguration. In the Supreme Court’s brief order published Thursday evening, five justices denied Trump’s application for postponing the sentencing date. A federal judge on Thursday blocked the Biden administration’s Title IX rewrite that added sexual orientation and “gender identity” as protected classes under the civil rights law. The rule change sought to revise sex-based discrimination, which critics argued would prevent federally funded schools from barring athletes who identify as transgender from participating in women’s sports. As President Joe Biden prepares to leave office, a U.S. district court in Kentucky has struck down the rule nationwide.

The highest court in New York said Thursday it would not prevent the sentencing of President-elect Donald Trump for his crimes, currently scheduled for Friday. A deputy clerk for Judge Jenny Rivera wrote in a two-sentence letter to Trump's lawyer, Todd Blanche, that the judge declined to intervene. Trump was convicted last year on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the so-called "hush money" case. The incoming president has also sought an emergency reprieve from the U.S. Supreme Court, claiming on Wednesday in a filing that evidence shown at trial violated his constitutional rights to presidential immunity. As RedState reported, parts of Los Angeles are now facing an apocalyptic series of wildfires, none of which have been contained as of this writing. To make matters worse, firefighters started running out of water early Wednesday morning. Notably, President-Elect Donald Trump repeatedly called for changes in how flammable brush and the water supply in California are managed. In return, he was mercilessly mocked by the press and Democrat politicians. Trump’s suggestions have prompted head-scratching from experts who say his prescriptions — more raking, less water released into the ocean for environmental purposes — suggest he does not understand

Los Angeles' budget is in the spotlight as multiple wildfires rage around the city amid revelations that Mayor Karen Bass slashed the fire department's budget last year while prioritizing spending on the city's homeless population. For the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Los Angeles budgeted $837 million for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), which was roughly 65% the size of the homeless budget of $1.3 billion. An analysis by L.A.'s city comptroller last year found that roughly half the budget for homelessness went unspent.

Joe Biden is mentally cooked and almost out the door, but he had to do what presidents do during these natural disasters. The wildfires engulfing Los Angeles County is the second inferno Biden has dealt with. He led Maui burn to the ground and took his sweet time visiting the island, whose residents endured the worst wildfire seen in almost a century. The president was briefed on the raging wildfires that have so far killed at least two people, destroyed over 1,000 buildings, forced 70,000 from their homes, and charred close to 30,000 acres. None of the fires have been contained (via CBS News):

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass became stone-faced when confronted by a reporter as she returned to America to find her city burning Wednesday. “Do you owe citizens and apology for being absent while their homes were burning, and do you regret cutting the Fire Department budget by millions of dollars madame mayor?” Sky News reporter David Blevins asked as Bass waited to deplane. “Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?” he added. (Photos) Bass — standing a few feet away on the plane’s ramp as she awaited clearance to leave — stared blankly as Belvins questioned her, refusing to provide an answer or even acknowledge his presence.

Earlier today when I wrote about the wildfires I mentioned that there were reports the hydrants were simply running dry, leaving firefighters no way to battle the flames. FIle this next clip under "too good to check" but apparently this morning one local LA anchor tried to discount what Caruso was saying only to have a reporter contradict him a minute later. That knee-jerk urge to contradict whatever criticism Democrats are getting is one surefire way the media consistently sets its own credibility on fire. By this afternoon,
