As President Biden's term comes to an end, he is reportedly considering commuting the sentences of most, if not all, of the 40 men on the federal government’s death row. The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the move would frustrate President-elect Trump's plan to streamline executions as he takes office in January. Attorney General Merrick Garland, who oversees federal prisons, recommended that Biden commute all but a handful of egregious sentences, the sources said. The outlet reported that possible exceptions could include Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 2013 Boston Marathon bomber who killed three and wounded more than 250; Robert Bowers,

Departing President Joe Biden’s administration is nothing if not busy as desks are cleaned out and preparations for final departure made. On Friday it announced federal student loans for another 55,000 workers will be canceled through an existing program known as Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Biden has now canceled an unprecedented $180 billion in federal student loans through existing programs during his term in office, covering 4.9 million Americans. The total cost for Biden’s latest act of Christmas charity will come in at $4.28 billion, courtesy of U.S. taxpayers, the bulk of whom previously questioned just how fair such acts are when workers are left to fund the munificence.

The Biden Administration quietly withdrew a proposed rule change to Title IX that would have clarified the eligibility of transgender athletes in school sports. The rule, which had sparked significant debate, was intended to ensure that schools could adopt policies on transgender participation while balancing fairness in women's sports. The Department of Education released a docket on Friday claiming that the initial intent of the Biden Administration’s proposal was to "propose a regulatory standard under Title IX that would govern a recipient’s adoption or application of sex-related criteria that would limit or deny a student’s eligibility to participate on a male or female athletic team consistent with their gender identity.”

The worst thing any government can do is to fail to act on its promises. Across the world, there are governments of all stripes suffering for doing just that. In Britain, the Labour government is already sinking in the opinion polls because it promised things it hasn’t been able to do. And it has also done things it promised not to do — like raising taxes. It´s the same in Germany, Italy and other European countries, where governments promised to deport illegal asylum seekers and have so far failed to get almost anyone out of their countries. In the weeks before the 2016 Trump Electoral College victory, Donald Trump was polling between 35 and 40 percent. He would average only about 41% approval over his tumultuous four-year tenure. No one knows what lies ahead over the next four years. But for now, Trump already polls well over 50% approval. His inauguration in a few weeks will likely not resemble Trump's 2016 ceremony. In the 2016-7 transition, Democratic-affiliated interests ran commercials urging electors to become "faithless," and thus illegally to reject their states' popular votes and instead elect the loser, Hillary Clinton. Massive demonstrations met Trump on Inauguration Day.
