California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appointed Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) to the Senate to complete the rest of appointee Sen. Laphonza Butler’s (D) term. The appointment means Schiff, who has served in the House since 2001 and won election to the Senate last month, will begin work in the upper chamber several weeks before the start of the next Congress in early January. Butler replaced the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D) in October 2023 and said she would not run for a full term, opening the race up to Schiff and others.

Actually the people of California picked him when they elected him for the next term. The only thing Newsom did was give him a head start. Schiff is what you wipe off your shoe when you step in dog poop, but that seems to be what California likes about him.

Climate ‘scientists’ discover they’ve
been underestimating a major factor, and
all their climate models are in fact wrong

Climate scientists recently discovered that they’ve been underestimating the impact of a particular organic compound in the atmosphere, and the oversight’s significance is so profound that it’s left existing climate models completely obsolete. As Jo Nova writes, “This is so big, it may change the sacred ‘climate sensitivity’ of the whole Earth”. Isoprene is what’s known as a volatile organic compound, or a VOC, and “has a recognized role in protecting plants against many abiotic stresses” like “heat stress…drought…[and] oxidative stress” with trees being the greatest emitters. (When the chemical isoprene interacts with other compounds in the atmosphere, the products are a number of secondary organic aerosols.)
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to appear

Kentanji Brown Jackson may not know what a woman is, but she knows what it is to go to bed one night as just an ordinary Supreme Court justice and to wake up the next day as a Broadway star. Yup, she’s hitting the Great White Way (or, maybe, in her case, the Great Black Way) to fulfill a childhood dream: taking a turn in a Broadway musical. Interestingly, the particular musical she’s chosen, “& Juliet,” is a tawdry pro-transgender show. I think we can now guess how Jackson will vote on Tennessee’s “no ‘gender-affirming’ care on minors” law.

During the last campaign, former President Obama called on African American men to vote for the African American female candidate. It didn't work, and you know the rest of the story. The thrill is gone for the 44th president. He will be remembered, and that's good, for being the first African American president. He won't be remembered for much more because he was always an empty suit, a media creation, and don't get me started on ObamaCare. What happened? Well, Roger Kimball has a point: Yes, glad to see that it's starting to fade.

The Justice Department secretly spied on two House members and 43 congressional staffers, including Kash Patel, then a staffer for the GOP-led House Intelligence Committee and now President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for FBI director, as part of a leak investigation. The department obtained phone records without notifying the courts, according to a sweeping report released Tuesday by the agency’s inspector general. "The probe began to investigate leaks to the media of classified information as part of the Trump-Russia probe being conducted by officials at the department," reports Just The News.

Catholics and Biblical scholars alike have been calling foul on recent attempts by supporters of Hamas to portray Jesus Christ as a "Palestinian." The historically incorrect narrative has been pushed by Muslims and other anti-Israel voices, who have sought to claim Jesus as their own in order to bolster support for the "from the river to the sea" destruction of the state of Israel. Sadly, it seems that the pro-Hamas cabal has found a kindred spirit in the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

The Secret Service has taken a lot of heat lately, most particularly since the July 13th attempt on the life of Donald Trump, who is now the president-elect and, in many ways, acting president. A lot of that heat is justified; on July 13th, they only narrowly missed the disgrace of having lost a principal protectee. Former Secret Service agent Richard Staropoli is worried that there will be another attempt on the president-elect — and that it may be one that the Secret Service isn't prepared to counter. Forget home-grown crackpots with rifles for a moment. Imagine if a group backed by the resources of a nation-state, like, say,

As far as Hamas leaders are concerned, the involvement of Iran's other proxies in the Jihad against Israel has been insufficient. Hamas leaders were hoping to see Arab and Muslim armies march on Israel and fulfill their dream of replacing it with a jihadist terror state. They are also aware that Iran wants to use them to expand its control over the Middle East. Iran already occupies three Arab countries – Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen, and until last week, Syria as well – and has brought nothing but death and destruction to the people there.

It’s not easy, because Lavrov has such poised, stable understanding of politics and international law. And he expressed this, not in his native Russian, but in English. He also displayed a level of respect for international power relations, and for America itself, that may leave many wondering which current government is more “American.” As a Russian speaker, and someone who worked in Russia, this is not surprising: The Russian people admire America, and they generally love, and have always yearned for, all things American. There’s no doubt that Russia’s current government puts Russia first. That is their job.

While Wray’s resignation isn’t entirely unexpected, it raises important questions about the future of the FBI, the challenges it faces, and the public’s trust in one of the nation’s most powerful institutions. This moment offers an opportunity to reflect on Wray’s tenure,
