This isn't exactly news at this point but the NY Times has a new poll out today which pretty much confirms what we already knew. The Senate is about to turn red and there doesn't seem to be any real hope for the Democrats to change that at this point.
Control of the Senate appears likely to flip from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party this fall, as one of the nation’s most endangered Democrats, Senator Jon Tester of Montana, trails his Republican challenger in his bid for re-election, according to a new poll from The New York Times and Siena College.
Mr. Tester, who first won election

Rumors come and rumors go and this one lit up like a Kansas brushfire this morning. So, that's interesting, right? What was also kind of entertaining was watching all the speculation running rampant concerning why this change of heart had supposedly come about.
Most of the guesswork centers on one meeting the Ukrainian president had during his recent American whistle-stop cash grab and anti-Trump campaign tour. It was the intimate tête-à-tête in New York sweater boy came out of, not flush with cash for once, but looking a little green around the gills. Bets are, if the rumored ceasefire wishes are true, that July head-butting session

Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Brigadier-General Esmail Qaani is alive and currently under investigation in Iran, the Middle East Eye reported on Thursday, citing several sources.
His whereabouts have been unknown since Israel's Saturday strike in Beirut that killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah's presumed successor, Hashem Safieddine. According to the report, the Islamic Republic is currently researching security breaches, with ten sources from Beirut, Baghdad, and Tehran telling the UK-based news outlet that both Qaani and his team were under isolation while under examination.
In addition, on Thursday, Israeli media, citing Sky News, reported that Qaani had suffered from a heart attack during interrogations.

The State of Virginia has promised to look into Chinese Communist Party influence in Fairfax County Public Schools, after National Review reported a bombshell allegation that administrators at Thomas Jefferson High School sold the public school’s intellectual property to America’s adversaries.
Parental-advocacy organization Parents Defending Education claimed on Thursday that a nonprofit organization affiliated with TJ High School, and run partly by the school’s administrators, made contractual agreements with three CCP-linked Chinese entities to exchange intellectual property for $3.6 million in cash payments.

An Afghan national accused of plotting an ISIS-inspired Election Day terror attack in the US worked for the CIA in Afghanistan, according to a new report.
Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, who was nabbed in Oklahoma on Monday over the alleged terror plot, was employed as a security guard for the agency but was not a CIA informant, NBC News reported, citing multiple sources.
It wasn’t immediately clear when or how long Tawhedi worked security before he came to the US in 2021 — just weeks after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan and the last US troops departed from the war-torn nation. It also wasn’t known

Ted Cruz has a five-point lead over Democratic rival Colin Allred in the Republican senator's battle to secure reelection in November according to a new poll.
The Marist Poll survey of 1,186 Texas likely voters put Cruz on 51 percent ahead of Allred, who currently sits in the House of Representatives, on 46 percent. However the poll did put Allred ahead with independent voters by 51 percent against 43 percent. The survey was conducted from October 3 to 7 and had a 3.6 point margin of error.
Notably the Marist Poll result gives Cruz a stronger lead than recent surveys

Chinese Communist Party–linked officials bought the blueprints to one of America’s leading STEM high schools, Parents Defending Education alleged in a National Review report today. In exchange for $3.6 million, Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax County, Va., handed over to three Chinese entities TJ’s curricula, floor plans, and IP.
PDE had to pay the school district $17,815 to access the public records. The district originally quoted PDE $35,910 to access information about the CCP’s influence in the public school, after which PDE trimmed its records request. PDE paid $13,930 for an initial FOIA and $3,885 for a subsequent FOIA requesting details about the nature

Multiple reports of Democrats beginning to panic over the state of the race have been reinforced by a slew of swing state polls that show real momentum for former President Trump.
As always, I will use the most reliable polling available as an example, and that’s the RealClearPolitics average poll of state polls. Afterward, I’ll explain why Trump’s picking up steam.
In Pennsylvania, the state that will likely decide the next president, Trump leads sitting Vice President Kamala Harris by an average of 0.3 points. Of note, though, is that Harris has only led in one of the last seven polls. Also, if you remove the oldest poll, an outlier

Hurricane Milton tore a coast-to-coast path of destruction across the state of Florida, whipping up a spate of deadly tornadoes that left at least four people dead and millions without power Thursday.
Milton made landfall Wednesday night on the Florida Gulf Coast as a major Category 3 storm.
Sustained hurricane-force winds smashed inland through communities still reeling from Hurricane Helene two weeks ago, before roaring off Florida’s east coast into the Atlantic. “The wind was the scariest thing because the building sways and the windows rattle, even though they’re storm-proof windows,” said Sarasota resident Carrie Elizabeth, as she emerged to inspect the aftermath early Thursday.

Kamala Harris was hoping to move the needle with her media tour.
She may have moved the needle alright, but in the wrong direction for her. She seems to be completely imploding along with her knuckle-headed running mate, Tim Walz. Interviews with friendly outlets are supposed to help prop you up. But her interview with "The View" just decimated her and her interview with "60 Minutes" has evolved into a full-blown scandal.
Bill Whitaker actually did a good job of asking some probing questions, and Kamala gave some ridiculous answers, including one incredible word salad about Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They released a clip on it early

Kamala Harris has been desperately trying to exploit Hurricanes Helene and Milton to boost her politically, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t letting her get away with that in Florida.
Earlier this week, NBC News reported that he refused to take her calls. DeSantis has disputed the report, saying that if Harris had reached out to him, he would have taken the call. But Kamala, still trying to appear as the adult in the room, accused DeSantis of “playing political games” and being “utterly irresponsible” and “selfish.”
During a Thursday morning interview on CNBC, DeSantis was pressed to clarify the details of his recent clash with Kamala Harris, and he wasted

Speaking nearly 12 hours after Hurricane Milton's landfall, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said that although the storm left significant damage, the state was spared from the worst-case scenario officials feared.
The hurricane weakened on Wednesday from a Category 5 down to a Category 3, which meteorologists had forecast. Although forecasters accurately predicted wind shear would cause Milton to weaken, there were concerns that wind shear would not be enough to take away Milton's fury.
Although the damage was extensive, it was not catastrophic.
