PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump repeatedly found himself on the back foot Tuesday night during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris — as Republicans seethed over repeated fact-checks of the GOP candidate and a noticeably lighter touch for the Democrat’s own disputed statements.
Harris, 59, arrived well-prepared to rattle Trump by claiming that military leaders had told her that the Republican nominee and 45th president was a “disgrace,” that world leaders were “laughing” at him and even asserting that “people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom” after he was “fired by 81 million people” in 2020.
Trump, 78, found himself having to answer not only Harris’

She wad prepped to get under his skin. It's optics, not content.

It pains me to say it, but she kicked his ass, period. The moderators weren't that bad, but every trap they may have laid, he fell right in to. Awful performance.

The commie moderators worked w Kamala to turn the debate into a referendum on 2016. Obamacare? Who's talking about that in 2024?
Nevertheless Trump should have turned the question into a referendum on giving universal healthcare to 30 million illegals.
Trump was caught on his heels and had surprisingly poor ability to sustain a thought. Jumped all over the place like he was on speed or something.
Same thing happened in 2016. He lost that debate and came back strong in the next two.

Kammie & Walz are straight out commies. Do voters really want to change the USA into a satellite of China, Russia or Cuba? I think not.

Nothing informative came out of her mouth. She dodged every question with banal platitudes and she outright lied on numerous occassions about Trump. She got a lot of help from the biased moderators who fact checked Trump yet let her outlandish lies stand. Yes she did get under his skin but he did land a few punches and his closing was spot on. Her standing there staring him down with that gooffy smile and facial expressions was irritating as hell and should not have been allowed IMHO. I don't think this effort helped her because her "plans" are still out there in the netherland unexplained and her past stances are still her "values" I don't think he should debate her again, because now she feels enboldened thanks to the moderators who helped her, and her mocking daring bully type presence will be worse. At least the CNN moderators were surprisingly fair, these two last night had bias stamped on their foreheads. Poster 1 is right it was the optics of her attitude not content becasue she had no content. MAGA I am voting for Trump!

Debates are a waste of time. With all the resources of modern media and internet at our disposal, we already know who to vote for. Besides, I don’t want to hear Kamala’s voice; as I vainly tried to not hear Obama’s, Hilary’s, and Biden’s voices.
I had already made up my mind for Trump since day one. What do debates prove anyway, since moderators are always carrying water for Democrat candidates?

I did not watch the debate. I do not believe that Kamala Harris is a legitimate candidate and this debate is inconsequential to me. Given that, I am reading poster's responses. #2 intrigues me. On another post, #2 is actually #7 and this is poster's response with that article: "Let's face it, she kicked his ass."
There seems to be no "pain" expressed in that post. Why am I pointing all of this out? It seems that mediocre or awful performance from Donald Trump will be the new talking point by Harris supporters. By the way, there is bias with ABC. It is my understanding that Kamala Harris is friends with someone at the top. It is curious that there was no fact-checking being done on Harris.
Mediocre or awful performance from Donald Trump? That's because he is not a performer and doesn't do scripts. That is what I look for in a CANDIDate - CANDIDness.

Commila did a lot of projecting last night. I was not attracted to her as a leader. She had a witchiness about her, just like hitlery. She was paler than normal, and looked quite evil. She can lie with a straight face, that's for sure. She came across as needing to win the debate to get elected, just like shifting her "policies" to win the election. She's obamalite. People are saying Trump closed it with why isn't she doing those things now, but he should have repeated it throughout the debate--worn it out even. I didn't think Trump did too bad, and I didn't think she did well, but I'm voting for Trump. She never said one thing that made me rethink that she's a lying skank who stole her way to every position she's held. She's so unqualified she shouldn't be allowed to sweep dog poop off the street. As Trump said, "She's a marxist; her daddy taught her well." We think her daddy has been avoiding her, but he's probably in DC because he's advising her. You can't trust no commie.

Kamala Harris looked straight into the camera and flat out lied to the American people. She knew she was lying, the moderators knew she was lying, and most informed viewers knew that she was lying. While she was lying to everyone, she was saying that Donald Trump lies about everything. That was a lie also!

I don't see a mass rush of independents (where Trump is leading by 14 points) to Kamala as a result of last night. But again I did not watch so am not qualified to give an original opinion.

#2, you must’ve see a different debate than I did. But, your dismissive comment has me wondering about how you would frame someone getting a terrible beating while being handcuffed?

It helps to have the questions in advance and a bunch of advisors script your responses a week ago. It also helps when the debate "Fact Checkers" only correct the Republican.

What do you call it when a team scores points because the referees are on their side and literally shoot baskets for them?

Not panned by cspan poll-70+% for Donald Trump out of 300,000 votes.
Same with Reuters and Rich Baris-undecideds went for Trump 2-1 per Baris today.
And CNN undecideds focus group after the ðebate went for Trump. Similar at CBS focus group. Why? Donald talked about policy.
