Northwestern University president Michael Schill refused to say he wouldn’t appoint anti-Semites to the school’s committee to combat anti-Semitism during a congressional hearing on Thursday.
Northwestern’s task force to combat anti-Semitism was appointed by Schill last fall in response to concerns about rising anti-Jewish sentiment at the school. The committee was recently disbanded after seven Jewish members resigned in protest over the university's decision to negotiate with anti-Israel protesters.
Schill was questioned by lawmakers about his decision to appoint several members who advocated anti-Israel boycotts, supported the eliminationist "From the River to the Sea" chant, and defended a Palestinian terrorist who murdered college students.

In the crucial swing states that will decide the 2024 election, polling shows that His Fraudulency Joe Biden’s decrepitude is a bigger liability than former President Donald Trump’s temperament and legal issues.
With some partners, the left-wing Cook Political Report polled seven swing states and found Trump leading in six: Arizona (+4), Georgia (+4), Michigan (+3), Nevada (+8), North Carolina (+8), and Pennsylvania (+3). The seventh swing state, Wisconsin, is a tie. Other than North Carolina, Biden was certified the winner in the other six in 2020.
Overall, in all seven states, this poll of 3,969 voters taken between May 6 and May 13 found Trump leading

The U.N.'s top court, the International Court of Justice, on Friday ordered Israel to cease its military offensive in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, citing concerns over the safety of Palestinian civilians.
"Israel must immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah governorate which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part," ICJ President Nawaf Salam said. The court noted that conditions in Rafah had deteriorated further since the ICJ's last ruling in March, and that the provisional measures that the ICJ instructed at the time

At least a dozen staffers at the left-wing character assassination outlet Media Matters for America were laid off today. Ordinarily, you could feel sorry for market forces putting people out of work, but that doesn't apply in this case. There probably haven't been this many deserving people at the unemployment office since the last left-wing media outlet failed.
No one is talking about why the staffers were sent off to learn to code, but there is a strong suspicion that it is linked to a civil suit filed by tech billionaire Elon Musk. Media Matters went after advertisers on "X," the platform formerly known as Twitter, based on provably false claims

The local Fox 5 News station reported on how Democrats were going to try to gather up counter-protesters to come out for the Trump rally in the South Bronx. You knew that was likely to occur. But what's fascinating here is what anchor Rosanna Scotto says about it. Host Curt Menefee expresses the wish that "cooler heads prevail," hoping that there isn't any problem with the people being in the same area at the same time. Scotto said it looked like Trump was going to have "record crowds at the Bronx rally," which "is kind of unheard of for this area." She said the Democrats were trying to reach

The NCAA and the Big Ten Conference leadership approved a $2.8 billion groundbreaking settlement of antitrust claims that promises to usher in a chaotic and lucrative era in college sports. Four other conferences will have to approve the settlement for it to be formally approved.
In House v. the NCAA, several former student-athletes who played before the 2021 agreement that allowed players to market their names, images, and likenesses (NIL) sued to recoup some of what they say they should have earned.
The settlement could resolve three antitrust lawsuits against the NCAA worth $20 billion.

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” CNN National Correspondent Kristen Holmes stated that the turnout at 2024 Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump’s rally in the Bronx that day was “a bigger crowd than I think Democrats would like to see,” and there were “a number” of people she talked to who said they voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 but are now looking for another candidate due to their frustration with conditions in the economy.
Holmes said, “Well, certainly, a bigger crowd than I think Democrats would like to see, particularly given this is one of the bluest counties in the entire country.”

Former President Donald Trump has broken political norms by visiting one of the most deep-blue areas in New York City, a town not necessarily known for its kindness to Republicans.
Trump rallied a crowd of what his campaign estimated to be 25,000 supporters at Crotona Park in the Bronx on Thursday, far more than the initial 3,500 it said were expected to attend. Those numbers appeared to also include those lined up outside the event.
"I'm here tonight to declare we are going to turn New York City around, and we are going to turn it around very, very quickly," Trump said after taking the stage, vowing to bring back safety

Approximately 900,000 Palestinians have fled from Rafah this month following the Israeli military evacuation orders for parts of the city earlier this month.
Israel’s military called for residents in eastern Rafah to evacuate on May 6, after Hamas launched a deadly attack from Rafah near the Kerem Shalom border crossing, which is the primary entry point for desperately needed humanitarian aid. The Hamas attack seemingly prompted the evacuation order after months of discussion between the Biden administration and Israeli leaders over a possible Rafah invasion.

Washington — The Louisiana Senate passed a bill Thursday that would classify the drugs used in medication abortions as controlled substances, criminalizing possession of the drugs without a prescription. It now heads to the governor for his signature.
The state Senate approved the bill 29 to 7 after it passed the House earlier this week. The bill is expected to be signed by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, making Louisiana the first state to classify as controlled substances misoprostol and mifepristone — the two drugs used in a regimen to terminate early-stage pregnancies.

Hundreds of Harvard University students and faculty walked out of the school’s commencement ceremony on Thursday, wearing keffiyehs and waving Palestinian flags and anti-Israel banners, videos and reports from the Cambridge campus show.
The Harvard Out of Occupied Palestine (HOOP) coalition, which organized the university’s anti-Israel encampment, posted a video of students marching out of the area in which commencement was held on its Instagram page. The video shows students chanting “hey hey, ho ho, the occupation has got to go” and is accompanied by a caption that reads, “over a THOUSAND of Harvard students and faculty have walked out of graduation.”
