New York Attorney General Letitia James has been sued by a coalition of anti-abortion groups who say she sought to block Christian pregnancy centers from promoting so-called "abortion pill reversal" protocol. The coalition, represented by the Thomas More Society—a conservative law firm based in Chicago—accused James of carrying out a "witch hunt" after her office sent out "Notice of Intention to Sue" letters to multiple pregnancy help organizations calling on them to stop providing "persistent misleading statements" while advertising the safety and proficiency of abortion pill reversal (APR) methods.

From what I have read, the Thomas Moore Society has a pretty successful record in the courts. James is going to have her hands full fighting them off.

The Chicago Teachers Union's contract is set to expire in June which will soon prompt negotiations between educators and the school board. Union President Stacy Davis Gates said in early March that her proposed contract for 2024 to 2028 'will cost $50 billion and 3 cents.' 'And so what?' Davis Gates added. 'That’s audacity. That’s Chicago.' The teachers union is demanding nine percent cost of living adjustments every year. According to Indeed, the average salary of a teacher in Chicago Public Schools is $67,718. With raises every year for four years, teachers would be getting paid about $95,000 a year by 2028, which is roughly 36 percent higher than the national average.

While most Americans don’t like Communist China, the highest negative scores for the Communist dictatorship can be found among Republicans and older Americans, while the most positive ones can be found among Democrats and younger people. Notably the only two groups where a quarter believe that China is a “partner” are 18-29-year-olds and “conservative” Democrats: a group that these days is disproportionately black. Liberals are the least likely of any group to see China as an enemy. And less than a third of Democrats in general view China as an enemy. Among 18-29-year-olds, 1 in 5 have a somewhat favorable view of China.

The Taliban junta is putting some effort into reviving tourism in Afghanistan, which seemed like an unlikely vacation getaway even before a band of hardcore Islamist fanatics took control of the country in 2021. The Associated Press (AP) on Tuesday marveled that Afghanistan does have a functional tourism industry, even though its current rulers are “pariahs on the global stage, largely because of their restrictions on women and girls.”

The U.S. consumer is increasingly tapped out, and the effects are being felt in even the strongest, most resilient brands out there. Exhibit A is Starbucks. The Seattle-based coffee chain, ubiquitous in the U.S. and increasingly a truly global franchise, on Wednesday laid one of the biggest eggs it ever has on Wall Street with a first-quarter earnings report that sent many investors running for the exits like their caramel frappuccinos were on fire. The stock closed down nearly 16% on more than eight times the average trading volume.

The Biden administration's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has updated federal LGBTQ+ workplace guidelines on harassment to include sexual orientation and gender identity, making it the first update of its kind since 1999. Human Rights Campaign said they praised the new EEOC guidance, and say the updates now align with the Supreme Court's landmark 2020 Bostock v. ClaytonCounty decision, which came after an employer allegedly fired a longtime employee "simply for being homosexual or transgender," the ruling stated. The 11th Circuit Court had said Title VII, used in that case, didn't prohibit an employer from firing an employee for being gay.

It’s all out in the open now. The House voted 366-58 on Saturday to send $9.1 billion to Gaza, and that means $9.1 billion to Hamas. [SNIP] The $9.1 billion is earmarked, of course, as “humanitarian assistance,” but that ruse is fooling fewer and fewer people. Just The News reported Friday that the bill is “under scrutiny” in the first place because the amount that Gaza will be getting is “significantly more than the annual gross domestic product of the Gaza Strip,” and no safeguards are in place to ensure that the money will not fall into the wrong hands.

[SNIP] Speaking in Jerusalem on Tuesday, the Israeli prime minister said: “The idea that we will halt the war before achieving all of its goals is out of the question. We will enter Rafah and we will eliminate the Hamas battalions there – with or without a deal, in order to achieve total victory.”

Elite higher education in America -- long unquestioned as globally preeminent -- is facing a perfect storm. Fewer applicants, higher costs, impoverished students, collapsing standards, and increasingly politicized and mediocre faculty reflect a collapse of the university system. The country is waking up to the reality that a bachelor's degree no longer equates with graduates being broadly educated and analytical. Just as often, they are stereotyped as pampered, largely ignorant, and gratuitously opinionated. No wonder polls show a drastic loss of public respect for higher education and, specifically, a growing lack of confidence in the professoriate.

Israel’s enemies are charging the world’s only Jewish nation with committing genocide. This is a lie. Genocide as a word and internationally accepted concept did not exist before 1944. It was specifically created to describe how the Nazis sought to eliminate the entirety of the Jewish population in Europe.(Snip) This narrow definition under international law consists of two principal prerequisites: intent and a specific group’s physical destruction. Currently, there are politically motivated and rhetorically irresponsible charges of genocide leveled at Israel. These disingenuous accusations are a weapon of war that terrorist groups such as Hamas are using to achieve strategic political victory in the struggle for universal information dominance.
