You know the stereotype of the NPR listener: an EV-driving, Wordle-playing, tote bag–carrying coastal elite. It doesn’t precisely describe me, but it’s not far off. I’m Sarah Lawrence–educated, was raised by a lesbian peace activist mother, I drive a Subaru, and Spotify says my listening habits are most similar to people in Berkeley.
I fit the NPR mold. I’ll cop to that.
So when I got a job here 25 years ago, I never looked back. As a senior editor on the business desk where news is always breaking, we’ve covered upheavals in the workplace, supermarket prices, social media, and AI.
It’s true NPR has always had a liberal bent, but

ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin said Monday on ABC’s “The View” that eclipses, earthquakes and cicadas could “lead one to believe” that “climate change exists.”
Partial transcript as follows:
HOSTIN: I know, right? I have to say, one of our wonderful makeup artists…when the earthquake was happening, she put her coat on and she was, like, Jesus is coming. I’m out. I’m leaving. We got a solar eclipse. We’ve got an earthquake. She ran down the hallway.
GRIFFIN: The Rapture is here!
HOSTIN: The Rapture is here. Also, I learned that the cica-ah-das are coming.
GOLDBERG: Cicadas.
HOSTIN: For the first time in a hundred years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Ukraine will lose the war against Russia unless the U.S. provides further military aid.
According to The Kyiv Independent, Zelensky made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with the Ukrainian fund-raising group UNITED24.
“It’s important to specifically address the Congress: if the Congress doesn’t help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war,” Zelensky said. “If Ukraine loses this war, other countries will be attacked. This is a fact."
The warning is one of the starkest since Russia invaded Ukraine over two years ago, as Congress wrangles over the condition of greenlighting further support.

On Monday’s broadcast of CBS’s “Late Show,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stated that the student loan plan announced by President Joe Biden earlier in the day is “hope” for those who benefit from the plan to be able to do different things, including traveling abroad.
Ocasio-Cortez said, “Actually, I’m going to be one of the few” that doesn’t get any benefits from the program, “I’m a member of Congress. I’m a little bit outside the threshold and bounds. But, if I wasn’t, just a few years ago, waitress me, five years ago, would have benefited from it. Congresswoman me will not, but that’s okay. I’ll take the knock if it means

mericans are being urged to stay away from classic American dishes like steak and eggs and some desserts because there's a small risk of catching bird flu.
That is the advice of former FDA food safety advisor Dr Darin Detwiler who said animal products that are not properly cooked could harbor small fragments of the virus which is currently tearing through US farms.
That means steak should be cooked well done and eggs with runny yolks should be avoided. Even salad dressings like Caesar can be a risk due to being made with raw eggs, he said.
The H5N1 bird flu strain has caused outbreaks on over a dozen farms across the US,

In yet another raucous display, a group of anti-Israel protesters marched into the Senate cafeteria on Tuesday to demonstrate against U.S. support of the Jewish state in its war against Hamas in Gaza. The incident is the latest in a series of protests and rallies staged by anti-Israel and pro-Hamas activists arguing against Israel’s effort to eliminate the terrorist group.
The demonstrations resulted in the arrests of 50 people. The activists strode through the building, yelling chants such as “Senate can’t eat until Gaza eats” and “Children are starving in Gaza.” One woman can be seen on video footage wearing a shirt that reads: “Biden’s legacy = Genocide.”

Have you ever wondered where all that stone booty in San Francisco ends up? A lot of the shoplifted items end up being sold out in the open by street vendors.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed has been trying to crack down on the lawlessness by shutting down the illegal street vendors. But that has proven to be difficult.
First, a 2018 state law has made it nearly impossible to enforce a ban because it prevents police officers from being involved in any crackdown.
Only in California.
But that's only half the problem. Civil rights groups, Hispanic advocacy organizations, and the far left have all been quick to scream about

Civil rights groups are calling for the collapsed Baltimore bridge to be renamed when it's rebuilt, citing accusations of racism against national anthem author Francis Scott Key.
The Caucus of African American Leaders of Anne Arundel County in Maryland voted unanimously to call for the renaming and will lobby governor Wes Moore on the proposal, as reported by the Baltimore Banner.
The caucus includes civil rights groups such as the NAACP and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Leaders argued that the The Star-Spangled Banner author -who the collapsed bridge was named after - was a slave owner who wrote lyrics that scholars have said 'demeaned black people.'

Remember when Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) said he was worried about Guam tipping over?
Speaking about a potential military buildup on the Pacific island in 2010, Johnson said, "My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."
It's taken nearly 15 years for us to see a dumber comment than that from a Democrat congressman—and trust me, there have been a LOT of contenders.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), formerly on the House Space, Science, and Technology Committee, speaking to supporters ahead of Monday's solar eclipse, waxed poetic idiotic about the moon.

Prospective jurors in Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial will be asked over 42 questions ranging from their views on extremist groups Antifa and Q'Anon, to where they get their news, to whether they've ever attended political rallies for the former president.
The 77-year-old has pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records to help cover up an alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.
Jury selection begins a week from Monday on April 15, and is bound to kick off at least several days of intensive questioning for the individuals who will determine Trump's fate in the case.

A seven-page juror questionnaire was released by the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s upcoming criminal trial in Manhattan.
Judge Juan Merchan released a questionnaire on Monday, consisting of 42 questions he will ask jurors as part of the process of selecting the jury for the trial, according to ABC News. The trial, which begins on April 15, centers around alleged hush-money payments Trump made to adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election. In one question on the questionnaire, jurors are asked which “print publications, cable and/or network programs, or online media” they read or have watched. Answers to the questions include

"G*d d*mn America!" was the first and only serious crisis of Barack Obama's ascension to the Democrats' presidential nomination in 2008. Obama's longtime pastor, Jeremiah Wright of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, said those words repeatedly in an infamous videotaped sermon. In an earlier age, a presidential contender sitting still and keeping his mouth shut during years of sermons like Wright's would have torpedoed Obama's presidential ambitions.
Anyone from the early GenX cohort and older thought there was a non-zero chance Obama might be toast. Anyone younger — largely denied the Civics classes prior generations were raised on and spoonfed "America is bad, mmkay?" lessons — knew better.
